xxxi. Little memories
Season one, chapter thirty-one
"Everyone has a secret"
THEA SEEMED SO immersed in her own thoughts that she struggled to pay attention to what was happening around her. The pink plastic gloves remained on her hands as she helped Ms. Chu cut the vegetables for the Kimchi but her mind seemed to be somewhere else.
"Why are you making so much kimchi if we're only doing takeout?" Mo-tak complained as he was forced to cut the other half of the vegetables
"We still need to make kimchi for winter" Ms. Chu responded mixing the mixture on the plastic fret in front of her "Whats wrong?" She asked when Mo-tak suddenly moaned in pain holding his head
"My memories" He responded still holding his head with both of his hands
"Goodness, don't rush it. You've gotten started, so you'll remember everything soon" Ms. Chu asked
"It's just frustrating. I... damn it" He moaned again "I definitely remember that I was stabbed with a knife. But that means I must have found some kind of evidence. And that is..." Everyone stared at him waiting for an answer "What I don't remember" He added quietly before abruptly raising his voice "Because of that evidence... Su-ryong..." He opened his eyes and mouth wide when he realized something
"Yes. What?" Ms. Chu asked, standing up from her seat impatiently
"Su-ryong..." He pointed his finger but nothing came out of his mouth "Damn it, this is so frustrating" he complained like a little child
"Forget it, okay?" Ms. Chu asked with a frown
"Darn it" Mo-tak began to roughly chop the vegetable without a bit of desire to do so
"Do you want help?" Hana asked him, noticing how frustrated he was because he couldn't put his memories in order
"How?" Mo-tak questioned looking at her with a serious face, surely without any hope left
"First off, your memories began to come back to you when you fought Ji Cheong-sin" Hana began to say, summarizing what he had said a few moments ago
"Yes" Mo-tak nodded his head
"And you said those memories are in pieces. I Can help you bring those back..." She began to put the pieces of the vegetable in front of her back into place "Into a whole piece"
"That's how we pieced together Mun's memories. That's how we found Ji Cheong-sin" Thea added, putting the knife aside in her hands and then taking the last cube of vegetables in front of Mo-tak and putting it where it belonged "From his subconscious memories" Mo-tak gasped in amazement watching as the brown-haired girl picked up her knife once again
"I don't think he has a subconscious mind. I doubt he has something that serious in his head" Ms. Chu mockedly put some of the raw kimchi into her mouth while Mo-tak wiped away his smile
"Hana. Give it a try" Mo-tak said removing the gloves from his hands without taking his eyes off Ms. Chu
"Okay"
"Good" Ms. Chu gave him a thumbs up without much importance to the look he was giving her
Then Hana got up from the ground to bring Mo-tak a chair on which he sat.
"Your head might hurt" Hana warned him, rolling up the sleeves of her shirt
"I'll do it even if it breaks. Let's find them" Mo-tak assured, and when Hana placed her hands on his head ready to begin he turned to look at her "Hey, wait. Don't look too carefully. You know, my private..."
"What now? Your privacy?" Ms. Chu asked with a frown
"Yes, I have that. A private life" He remarked as Hana turned his head sharply before finally placing her hands on his head and thus they both closed their eyes
"Hey, Ms. Chu. I got salted shrimp" Jangmul commented entering the restaurant
"That's not the problem" Ms. Chu stood up from her place with intrigue to then position herself in front of the duo that had just started
Thea, on the other hand, took off her pink gloves and then got up from the ground copying Ms. Chu actions as she too wanted to see the whole process.
"What are you doing?" Jangmul approached curiously then suddenly Mo-tak began to moan in pain
"Hana, this phone number. Remember the number" Mo-tak commented with his eyes still closed
"I'm reading it already" Hana responded "010...4..."
"Wait, that number. Write it down" Ms. Chu asked Jangmul who already had a notebook and pen in his hand ready to write down
"497...4536" Hana finished saying and just like that, Mo-tak let out a big scream and Hana let go of him stumbling backwards
"Are you okay?" Ms. Chu asked worriedly
"I'm a little late" Mun said entering the restaurant
"I'm back" Mo-tak exclaimed breathlessly
"Goodness. Great job." Ms. Chu hugged him happily while Hana patted him on the shoulder
"What is it?" Mun asked confusedly watching the scene that was happening in front of him
"It's Mo-tak. He remembered everything from seven years ago" Jangmul pointed out with a big smile on his face
"Wait, really?" Mun stammered in surprise, approaching the aforementioned man, who stood up from his seat almost upon noticing his presence
"Yes" Mo-tak nodded his head "I remember... your dad too. He looks a lot like you"
"No, I look a lot like him" Mun corrected, feeling sentimental before hugging him "Sit down." They made him sit down when he complained about the pain again
"I told you it would hurt" Hana reminded him
"The one on the right" Mun exclaimed from behind the curtain after having been spying on Mo-tak for quite a while
"They look the same"Ms. Chu appeared behind the teenager and so one after another in a single file
"I told you not to read into my private matters" Mo-tak exclaimed holding two coats in his hands. It's true, Hana had told them about what she had seen in Mo-tak's memories and Thea couldn't help but squeal in excitement as she realized that she was right all along
"Let me see. I say the left one" Hana commented pointing to the coat on the left
"Oh, really?" Mo-tak approached the group
"If I had known, I would've given her some noodles. Bring her over next time" Ms. Chu began to say as Mo-tak raised one of his coats in the air "Yes, this one"
"The one on the left is what women like" Jangmul commented making the group laugh "This is their first date in seven years. Noodles aren't good enough. Use this as much as you want" He put a credit card in Mo-tak's mouth "Gosh, you smell like an old man. This isn't good" He started putting perfume on Mo-tak who was happily dancing
"Mo-tak" Ms. Chu suddenly said as she took slow steps towards him
"Yes?"
"You don't have to come home tonight" She punched him on the shoulder playfully before walking away with a mischievous smile on her face
"Why not? I'm coming home" Mo-tak exclaimed, approaching her once again with an embarrassed expression
"Don't come home"
"Don't come back"
"You aren't coming home?"
"I am!"
"He's not!"
"Why wouldn't I? I'm coming home"
"Don't come"
"What do you know?" The group began to make fun of him
Meanwhile, on the other hand, Thea felt happy for her teammate, since he was finally able to remember his past and the woman he loved. However, Thea had many things to tell the group of counters about what she had found in her uncle's memories, but if she did so it would ruin the atmosphere so she decided to stay silent and enjoy the moment that will probably never happen again.
Putting aside her sadness, fury and resentment to focus on what really mattered now. Her family.
