xxx. Last wave
Season one, chapter thirty
"Haven't you taken
enough from me?"
THEA'S EYES seemed to be glued to the figure of the person on the stretcher in front of her, she didn't want to take her eyes off of her even for a second waiting for Ms. Chu to open her eyes at some point to tell them that she was fine.
Hana had told them about the mayor's plan, he had hired those evil spirits to destroy the group of Counters. They had been the cause of all this so Thea will not hesitate to make them pay for all this when she gets the chance to.
"You're here" Hana exclaimed as everyone bowed when Jangmul entered the small room where Ms. Chu was staying. She still hadn't woken up and made everyone worry even more about her well-being
"Mo-tak. Are you in a lot of pain? You should get examined again" Jangmul exclaimed upon noticing the behavior of the aforementioned
"I'm fine. I'm more worried about her" Mo-tak responded moving his gaze towards the woman on the stretcher
"Yes. I heard her brain is awfully swollen" Jangmul commented nodding his head
"And her eyes are bruised" Mo-tak added pointing at Ms. Chu's face "How dare they do this to her gorgeous face"
"But she is getting better, isn't she?" Hana asked with a worried expression, turning her body to look at Jangmul, the person in charge of all payments at the hospital
"Right" He nodded his head "Let's give her time. She's a woman who can easily make it through this. She'll come back"
Yes, she was, and she couldn't just abandon them without any explanation or authorization.
"Ms. Chu, you have to hang in there" Mun said hugging the older's hand with no plans to let her go
Thea took a step forward, placing one of her hands on Mun's shoulder in a comforting way, completely knowing how he felt, because she herself felt that her world would collapse if Ms. Chu never woke up.
Thea had been discharged along with the other members of the team a few days ago, but Ms. Chu did not seem to want to wake up so Thea had taken it upon herself to be there with her day and night, without taking her eyes off the glass that separated her from the patient. She had also repeatedly refused to eat a bit of food.
The others had insisted that she had to eat, they had even brought her food to the hospital because she did not want to leave Ms. Chu's side, but no one managed to convince her on eating. But what was the point of all that?
The universe seemed to be going against her and wanted to take away the most precious thing in her life, her hands were pressed against the cold glass while tears fell down her cheeks as if they were waterfalls. Her sobs with Hana's seemed to make a single chorus, combining into a single voice.
"No, Ms. Chu..." Hana sobbed with her hands against the glass
"Mun..." Thea sobbed when she saw the boy a few meters away from them, looking as if he was about to cry but was also having a hard time processing what was happening "Ms. Chu..." She returned her gaze to the other side of the glass in front of her
"Ms. Chu..." Mun began to sob next to the two girls "Ms. Chu!"
Thea lowered her head still with her hands resting on the glass, with tears falling down her cheeks, which would not stop for a long time.
"Charge it to 200 joules"
"200 joules"
"All clear. Shock"
Ms. Chu's body rose upward as the devices against her bare chest delivered electric shocks. But now none of that seemed to have any effect.
"Increase it to the maximum"
"The maximum"
"All clear. Shock"
Once again the doctors put the machines on the older's chest but when she received the electric shock she did not open her eyes which made Thea burst into tears even more.
And when Thea and the other members thought that all was lost, Mrs. Chu raised her hand slowly making an 'ok' sign, making the group laugh instantly through their crying.
"Ms. Chu..." Thea wiped away her tears and laughed even more when she saw the thumbs up that Mo-tak gave her
She couldn't be more grateful to the universe and the heavens for not taking away one more family member, she had really thought she would lose everything once again. But even though everything had not turned out as expected, Ms. Chu had returned to them.
"Goodness, Ms. Chu" Jangmul said, opening the door of the restaurant to receive the aforementioned woman who had been discharged from the hospital a few hours ago. "You've done well." He gently took the arm of the older woman who looked disgusted at the action
"Let me go" She removed his arm from around hers
"Oh, okay." The older man laughed embarrassedly "Welcome back, Mun. It's been a while"
"Yes, Chairman Choi" Mun responded with a smile on his face as he pulled a chair to sit down
"What's all this?" Ms. Chu asked once she approached the table
"I made abalone porridge" Jangmul responded laughing proudly
"Did you wash everything properly?" Ms. Chu asked again, judging him with her gaze
"Just take a seat, will you?" With that said, everyone dropped onto a wooden chair, one on each.
Apparently they were all just as sore at not having been healed by Ms. Chu as they always were so as not to be left with any bruises or wounds. Then Thea realized that because she was inside the hospital as if it were her cave, she had forgotten to do Ms. Chu's job at healing her teammates.
"I'll heal all of you once I feel a little better" Ms. Chu commented as she noticed the movements of each member of the Counters team
"No way"
"No"
They all instantly refused with no plans to force the eldest to heal them when she had clearly just been discharged.
"You need to rest"
"You just got better, Ms. Chu. No way" Mun shook his head refusing to allow her to do that, something that made the older laugh
"I can do it, don't worry," Thea commented, snapping her fingers as if preparing for a mission
"Don't even think about it, you won't do it" Ms. Chu refused and was going to start scolding her but Thea quickly took her hands in hers gently so as not to hurt her
"You should stop worrying about me and worry about yourself. I can do it, I already told you, don't worry," Thea assured with a small smile on her face. "Besides, I can't leave all the hard work to you, like this. So let me help you from now on, I promise not to overdo it, okay?"
Ms. Chu narrowed her eyes in thought for a few seconds before finally being able to respond.
"Well, you'll only help when it's an emergency like these. I don't want you to age so quickly, you're young and you need to enjoy your youth" Ms. Chu explained, caressing the younger's head with one of her hands before squeezing one of her cheeks "Alright?"
"Yes, sounds good" Thea nodded with a smile on her face, infecting the older woman in a matter of seconds
"Then, let's eat" Jangmul exclaimed with a smile at the mother and daughter scene in front of him
Everyone seemed to think the same thing, it was like seeing a daughter worry about her mother, so they couldn't help but put smiles on their faces.
"Stop looking at me with those eyes" Ms. Chu told Jangmul upon noticing his intense gaze on her
"You always healed everyone else, but who will heal you if you get hurt?" Jangmul questioned softly "You won't even let Thea use her powers to do so"
"When you got hurt... it was really frightening" Hana commented, bringing the spoon of food to her mouth
"All of you... are as good as family" Jangmul commented with a small laugh admiring the group of Counters "Yes?" He asked as Mo-tak raised his hand in the air
"I have... something to tell my family here. It's a very shocking confession" Mo-tak began to say with a serious face
"A confession?" Mun questioned putting all his attention on him
"Don't you dare say you love us" Ms. Chu warned him, receiving a heart from him
"Goodness" Thea laughed with amusement while the others frowned in displeasure, on the other hand Mo-tak hit his head gently
"I got... my memories back" He blurted out so suddenly, making the group very surprised
"What?"
"What did you say?"
"Seriously?"
"Really?"
"Not kidding?"
"About half" Mo-tak added, interrupting the questions that his teammates were asking him
"What?"
"Half? What do you mean 'half'?" Ms. Chu questioned with a frown
"Once second. Look at me" Mun said waving his hand in front of Mo-tak's face before smiling happily and patting the older man's shoulder "Good for you, Mo-tak!" The aforementioned rubbed his arm while Mun held his hand tightly.
Thea wiped her smile off her face as she remembered what she had seen in Ye-jun's memories, that bastard would pay for what he did.
