Season one, chapter forty-seven

"We make a really
good team"

THEA FINDS herself amidst a crowd, drawn to the enigmatic court of the once-powerful Mayor, Shin Myeong-hwi. As the former mayor awoke from his mysterious coma a few days ago, he was immediately taken to court to determine whether he was innocent or guilty.

"All right. You may play the recording" The judge ordered as Thea sighed deeply, begging the gods to please fulfill her wish

"Someone else is on the Kim Yeong-nim case? In addition to Ga Mo-tak? Did you find out who it is?"

"Yes, a detective at the Nambu Police Agency. So Gwon"

"So Gwon? The one who was investigating the election campaign fund?"

"Shall I send my boys out to scare him a little?"

"Let's not take a detour. Just kill them both. Ga Mo-tak, So Gwon"

"What?" The room erupted in loud murmurs

"My gosh"

"Defendant Shin Myeong-hwi. Is that your voice? Do you admit to making that remark?" The prosecutor asked, getting up from his seat, however, Shin remained silent, who now had no escape

"Defendant. Answer the prosecutor's question" The judge asked, raising his voice when he received no response

"I... admit it" Shin Myeong-hwi responded under the watchful eyes of everyone in the room

"I will announce the verdict. Based on the recording of the defendant's voice giving orders to kill So Gwon, as well as the testimony of the defendant's son who saw the person who received the orders, there is no doubt that the defendant indeed ordered murders of the victims, So Gwon and Ha Mun-yeong. Ergo, the defendant is guilty" The judge explained, giving the final word

"My gosh"

"Thank goodness" Thea threw her head back in relief, finally that bastard would be put behind bars

"Well done" Ms. Chu congratulated taking Mun's hand who took Mo-tak's hand

One month later

"The whole country?" Mo-tak asked getting up from his seat "You should send us on vacation if anything. Patrol the whole country? This is too cruel"

"It's such a relief that we eradicated the absolute evil, but some evil spirits are hiding in areas that we've been neglecting" Wi-gen explained trying to reason with the team

"Korea is a small country. Just work hard for a month and..." Gi-ran began to say, her words fading halfway

"Then why don't you do it yourself?" Ms. Chu asked, Hana, Mo-tak and Thea standing up from their seats looking at her menacingly not believing what was coming out of her mouth "We're still recovering from our last fight with Shin. What? Go around the whole country? We don't even know where they're hiding"

"Right! We arrived at this decision after long and careful consideration. It's all thanks to Mun" U-sik revealed with a malicious smile looking in the direction of Mun who shrank in his seat

"What? Mun?" Hana asked exalted

"Hey, was this your idea?" Thea continued to say with her eyes wide open without believing that her dear boyfriend had been the cause of all this

"What? No! I never said anything like that. U-sik, what are you taking about?" Mun defended himself as he noticed the penetrating look Thea was giving him

"No, no. It's because Mun has the ability to summon our territory" SuHo hastily corrected, defending Mun

"Wait, hold on a second" Mun got up from his seat "Don't tell me you actually expect me to go around the whole country and summon our territory. Summoning out territory isn't an easy job"

"You folks are working him like a dog" Ms. Chu exclaimed as Hana pointed her index finger at them accusingly

"We understand you're short-handed so we're discussing ways to hire more Counters. Give us a little bit of time" Wi-gen asked trying to calm the group down

"Gosh, okay. I Guess we have no choice. Let's just think that we're going on a cross-country road trip together. I like this idea" Mun exclaimed with a mischievous smile

"You little brat" Mo-tak was the first to run towards him

"Gosh!"

"Hey!"

"I'll teach you a lesson"

They began to run around the table trying to catch Mun who amusingly escaped from the clutches of his teammates.

"I'm going to give you your road trip" Thea exclaimed, extending her hands forward and in a quick movement the teenager was already in the clutches of the brown-haired girl who agilely climbed on his back before he could escape

"Jesus Christ Thea!"

"Look at how agile she is!"

The Yung people looked at the Counters with amusement, being one of the first times they had seen them act and have fun like this.

Thea sighed, letting out a big yawn of how tired she was, they'd been patrolling the streets of Korea for entire days in search of evil spirits and she very rarely managed to have a good night's sleep. She looked askance at Mun who was stretching his arms in the air, and noticing the big hole in the armpit of his red jacket, Thea couldn't help but laugh.

"It's all right. I have nine more anyway" Mun boasted with an amused smile

"I have 20 more" Mo-tak added with his eyes glued to the road

"But why do we have to wear this all the time?" Mun asked with a frown

"Be quiet, will you?" Hana asked, exhausted from having to listen to him complain all the time about every single little thing

"Okay"

"This is just wrong. I'll go back to Yung and negotiate with..." Mo-tak began to say with annoyance

"Negotiate? As if. You can't even put your foot down. I should've stopped you when you said you were going there to put in a vacation request" Ms. Chu complained, leaning back in her seat

"By the way, will they manage to find a new Counter?" Hana questioned leaning forward

"So I won't be the newbie anymore?" Mun asked with interest

"Why? So you can discipline the newbie?" Thea questioned, turning to look at him with a raised eyebrow

"Yes, of course" Mun nodded, for a few moments feeling superior

"Jeez"

"Don't be ridiculous"

"Gosh"

"Whatever, I don't care. We're not machines" Mo-tak continued to complain

"We're not" Mun added agreeing with him

"Right, we need a break. We should eat well and recharge. It'll help us catch more evil spirits" Mo-tak protested confidently

"Yes"

"Let's play!"

"Okay"

"Mun, find a good restaurant" Mo-tak pointed out, preparing for his long-awaited vacation

"A restaurant?"

"There are no evil spirits in this tiny country town!" Mo-tak exclaimed in a somewhat loud voice tightening his grip on the steering wheel

"I just stepped on one. Turn around" Hana added hitting him on the shoulder "Make a U-turn!" She exclaimed, flopping down on her seat tiredly

"Gosh, you"

"Goodness"

"You and your mouth"

"Oh, boy"

"Damn it!"

Mo-tak started slapping his face while the others complained. Blaming him for jinxing just when everything was going well.

And here in the dark night, everyone joined their fists together, having once again defeated the evil spirit. Leaving the rest to the police.

"This is tiring but regarding at the same time" Mo-tak exclaimed as Ms. Chu laughed in agreement

"I'm exhausted" Hana commented

"Me too" Thea added, her eyelids feeling heavy

"Where to next?" Mun asked energetically"Jeju Island?"

"Are you excited?" Ms. Chu asked him, not even turning to look at him because of how tired she was

"Yes"

"He's so hyped up now" Hana exclaimed in annoyance

"Is my little boy excited?" Thea exclaimed in a squeaky voice, looking at her boyfriend in awe, leaning towards him to squeeze his cheeks tenderly

"Yes." He nodded, pouting, looking so cute in Thea's eyes that she couldn't contain a squeal before smashing her lips against his in a quick but loving kiss

"Get a room," Hana suggested with disgust, frowning, turning her head in another direction

"When you get to experience this, you won't be saying the same thing," Thea explained, sticking to her boyfriend like gum who was happily enjoying the attention he received from his girlfriend

"What Thea said" Ms. Chu agreed, happily watching both teenagers show how much they loved each other

..

"My gosh, the moon's so bright tonight" Mo-tak commented, turning the meat with the tongs on the spit "This feels like a vacation. Look at us chilling and enjoying delicious food together whenever we have some time. I'd say we're on vacation now"

"I'll do it" Mun commented tasting the meat already

"Hold on, Mun"

"What?"

"Everything in its own time. I don't grill meat for just anyone" Mo-tak explained, stopping him from taking the meat that was definitely already ready

"But it smells so delicious. I want one now" Mun complained like a small child

"Doesn't it smell amazing?" Mo-tak asked passing the meat near his face to torture him

"My gosh!" Mun shook his head, closing his eyes as Mo-tak laughed evilly

"Mo-tak, I didn't know you had a skill like that" Ms. Chu scoffed, petting the small dog in her hands

"I used to grill a lot of meat when I was a rookie cop" Mo-tak responded proudly

"Look at you!"

"Don't you think it'll rain soon? We should go inside" Hana commented ruining the fun

"Come on"

"Don't be such a spoilsport" Thea exclaimed, frowning

"All right, it's ready!" Mo-tak announced loudly

"My gosh"

"I want meat"

"Let's eat"

"Doesn't it look good?"

"Oh my"

"All right, let's go"

"Let's eat! Here you go" Mun put the plate on the small table. Thea crossed her legs as she savored all the food in front of her. Her eyes shone with admiration as Mun placed a large piece of meat on her empty plate, which filled up in a matter of seconds after the boy continued placing different types of food on it

Thea smiled, tasting the food inside her mouth. With her chopsticks she took a small piece of meat and then offered it to her boyfriend, who smiled tenderly at her before opening his mouth waiting for Thea to put the food inside it, who kindly did what he asked.

"My gosh, we can't even find a proper restaurant here. This is our first feast in a long time. This is amazing. My gosh. This is bringing back some old memories. You know, back in my day..." Mo-tak explained while the others literally devoured the food "Back when I was a detective, whenever I opened my mouth to eat something, the suspect would show up..."

"Hold on" Hana said putting a hand in the air stopping him from continuing narrating, while she got up from her seat

"What?"

"Damn it, Mo-tak! Why? Just why?" Mun exclaimed irritably, his mouth full of food

"Did you have to say that?" Ms. Chu asked hitting him

"You really have to jinx everything?" Thea exclaimed discreetly, stealing a piece of meat from Mun's plate who was distracted

"Did you spot one? For real?" Mo-tak questioned perplexed, he probably thought he had a good mouth for jinxing everything

"No, just hold on" Hana responded seriously, walking towards the gate of the place where they would stay for the night

"It's not an evil spirit" Mo-tak said with relief, relaxing his body after having tensed up

"What's going on?"

"Hey, what is it? What's going on?"

Thea took one last piece of meat before following her teammates who were going after Hana, although outside the place they found several black cars parked in front of the motel(?) they were staying.

"Sir!" Mun said in surprise when Jangmul got out of one of the vehicles

"What brings you here? You didn't even call" Ms. Chu questioned, raising an eyebrow

"Long time no see, Ms. Chu" Jangmul greeted in English, his accent being noticeable to everyone

"Did you come all the way here to see Ms. Chu?" Hana asked mischievously, giving him a quick playful punch to the chest

"No, thats not why I'm here. I came to take care of an urgent complaint. Mun" Jangmul responded quickly, feeling nerves flood through his body

"Yes?" The aforementioned responded to the mention of his name

"I heard you're too embarrassed to work because you have to wear that red tracksuit everyday. You also said you want to quit your job as a counter because it looks so lame"

"What?"

"What?" Thea looked at him in surprise, that had caught her off guard, did he really think all that? She thought the tracksuit was unique and pretty

"Me?" Mun asked perplexed, not believing what was coming out of Jangmul's mouth.

"Yes" Jangmul nodded, confirming what he had said

"Hey, Mun"

"Mo-tak! I bet it was you!" Mun exclaimed with amusement, noticing how a smile began to appear on Mo-tak's face who was trying to act like the victim "Mo-tak said that" Mun pointed it out with amusement

"Gosh, seriously"

"I knew it" Everyone started hitting Mo-tak playfully "I guess it might be Mo-tak's prank" Jangmul started laughing with amusement "All right. Let's get started!" He applauded, and instantly a group of strangers got out of the black car parked a few meters away from them

"Start what?"

"What is that?"

"My gosh"

"Wow"

"Who are they?"

"What's going on?"

The group of strangers bowed once they were in front of the group of Counters, who copied their action.

"Oh, hello"

"Hello"

"What is going on?"

"Go look"

"Wow. What is this?" Mo-tak asked curiously, approaching the van in front of him, from which Jangmul had exited

"Hop in" Jangmul encouraged him, which Mo-tak did not hesitate to do

So minutes later Thea found herself stretching her arms to the sides, her red jacket revealing her white blouse. Feeling chills when the man positioned himself behind her to begin measuring her waist, arms, etc. which would be for her new suit.

"Measure properly!" Jangmul ordered raising his voice, looking at the group of Counters with amusement in front of him

"I like that attitude" Mo-tak admitted, the five of them appearing from behind the group of evil spirits in their new fancy suits and a black mask covering half of their faces "That bold, go-better attitude. Although you'll regret saying that right away"

"All four of them?" Ms. Chu questioned, removing the mask from her face, Thea and Mo-tak copying her action

"Yes, all of them" Hana confirmed nodding her head while removing the mask from her face

"Is roaming around in groups the latest trend among evil spirits now?" Mo-tak questioned with amusement

"Who are you guys?" One of the guys in the group questioned "Jeez, there's two kids. Are you family?"

"No we're not" Mun responded superiorly, being the last one to remove the mask from his face

"Shut up, kiddo!" One of the girls spat with venom in her tone, something Thea didn't like at all

"Hey, don't talk to him like that!" Thea spat back, taunting the previous girl

"You little..." The girl began to say with irritation, being the first to run in the direction of Thea who nimbly dodged her useless attacks while her hands remained inside the pockets of her black pants

"Is that all you got?" Thea asked with a smirk on her face. Tilting her head to the side as the girl let out a cry of irritation. Although Thea let her foot crash into the girl's face, who fell to the ground seconds later

Then she took the moment to admire her surroundings, apparently the rest of the group had taken care of the others, without a doubt none of these evil spirits were a match for them.

"Who are you people!?" One of the boys questioned on the ground while spitting blood, looking at the group of Counters with hatred in his eyes

"We're..." Mo-tak began to say, pausing for a few seconds to think of a better name for the team

"We sell noodles and catch evil spirits" Ms. Chu completed, their territory appearing behind them like those concert lights

"We're the Uncanny Counters" Mun added proudly, squatting on the ground with the light of the territory appearing beneath his hand, the flashes and colorful colors shining like never before

Author's note;

Everyone, with this chapter the first season comes to an end, now I'll probably start writing season two tomorrow and on Sunday and Monday I'll upload the first chapter, what do you think? 🤔 I have too many ideas for the second season so look forward to it. Anyway, in the future I will probably take the time to rewrite this entire book because I am not very satisfied with it 🤷‍♀️
