Season one, chapter nine

"Half of her beauty is her brain"

"You can't do that" Ms. Chu refused when she heard what Mun had said "Our identity may be exposed if we intervene with the living. If we start doing favors for the deceased, they'll keep asking for more"

"I just need to share a few words with their daughter" Mun argued, lets recap, the parents who were trapped within that evil spirit had asked Mun to contact their daughter because they had something to tell her

"Be quiet" Mo-tak shushed him "Yung won't allow it. What are you going to say? 'Hey, your parents died a year ago, then they finally got to the afterlife, and they have something to tell you'?"

"I'm going to tell her" He said without paying much attention to what the adults had just told him

"What did you say?"

"She hands out flyers as she desperately looks for them. They parted without any warning. They said that they had one last thing to tell her" Mun started to say as Ms. Chu rolled her eyes in annoyance

"I'll go" Thea interrupted their argument

"Why are you getting into this?" Mo-tak asked looking at her through the mirror with a frown on his face

"Don worry. I won't cause any trouble" Thea reassured looking out the window

"I said no!" Ms. Chu exclaimed looking at both teenagers as she raised her voice

The car was silent, they had made Ms. Chu angry and when she gets angry there is no going back, so Thea had no choice but to give an apologetic look to Mun, who had a pout on his face for having been scolded several times throughout the day.

The night seemed to get long, the way home too. Thea was so tired from having exhausted all her energy holding back that rock, sometimes she wondered how it was possible that after so long her abilities had not improved? There were times when she would train day and night only to pass out on her bed the moment she put her head on the pillow.

She closed her eyes with the intention of resting a bit and she did. Because she didn't realized how long she had slept until she felt someone's head on her shoulder, she forced herself to open her eyes noticing that it was the boy next to her who had also fallen asleep, she smiled tenderly when she saw how the boy settled on her shoulder, Thea sighed deeply before taking his hand gently before closing her eyes again.

Although her eyes darted back and forth as she saw the boy's memories. She felt every feeling, heard and noticed things that made her open her eyes with a gasp of surprise, glancing down at the boy next to her with wide eyes.

Thea had had a very bad night, her eyes had barely closed when she remembered what she had seen in Mun's memories, for some reason it didn't make so much sense that his parents had died due to a drunk driver, what she heard was definitely not a drunk driver, it surely had been work of someone to end his family.

She messed up her hair in desperation, should she tell the group or Mun? She bit her lower lip without knowing what to do, if she tells the black-haired boy he'll probably go crazy and would want to find the person responsible for everything, but again, Thea isn't sure if what she thinks is what really happened, so she shouldn't be jumping into conclusions yet.

Thea got up from her bed with her eyes almost still closed, she was so tired of not being able to sleep at night, it was becoming a habit. She opened the door of her room, walking down the long corridor of the place where the other rooms of her teammates were.

"Who will he be? He's a very handsome young man" Thea heard the voice of one of her teammates

"Sure, but he's been waiting there with that bouquet of roses for a long time now, right?" Mo-tak asked with both of his hands on his waist

"Shouldn't he be at school?" Hana questioned, noticing the boy's uniform

"Surely he studies in the same school as Mun, will they be friends? ah but that doesn't explain the roses" Ms. Chu exclaimed

Meanwhile Thea walked towards the group with her eyes barely open, she let out a loud yawn, letting the group know of her presence.

"Ah, good morning, Thea" Hana exclaimed as Thea stretched out her arms

"Good morning..."

Although she stopped abruptly as she recognized the boy outside the restaurant, who impatiently held a bouquet of roses in his hands.

"He's a very handsome boy, isn't he..." She didn't get to finish when Thea was already heading towards the entrance of the restaurant

Thea didn't even care if she was in her pajamas, she just wanted to know how SuHo had managed to find out where she lived in a matter of days. She opened the door of the restaurant alerting the boy who quickly put a smile on his face when he saw Thea.

"What are you doing here? How did you find me?" She hastily started to ask

"Whoa one question at a time. First, I wanted to come see you cause I wanted to ask you something, second, I have my contacts" SuHo replied as he extended the bouquet to her

"You have to go, I told you I didn't want to see you" Thea hissed, pushing the bouquet of roses towards the boy once more. She wouldn't accept anything that came from him

"Well, I guess I'll be late for my first day of school if you don't accept to go on a date with me," SuHo threatened shrugging his shoulders with a mischievous smile on his face. And Thea knew that smile very well

"I won't go on a date with you, now go" She exclaimed with annoyance

"Okay, I guess I'll stay here" He shrugged before heading to the bench that was next to him

Thea bit her lower lip, if she didn't accept he wouldn't leave, and if he didn't leave her teammates were going to invite him in. There weren't many options to choose from. She hated the way Suho was so good at getting what he wanted.

"Fine, but on one condition" The boy looked at her with an arched eyebrow "You won't show up here again" SuHo sighed but kept the smile on his face as he had gotten what he wanted

"Take it for granted" SuHo agreed before extending the roses towards her once more "But you also have to accept this so I can leave"

Thea sighed in frustration before aggressively taking the bouquet of roses from his hands.

"Now go away, you're gonna be late" Thea said pushing him with her free hand

"Okay, I'm leaving" He laughed "Bye, I'll send you the details of our date this afternoon" SuHo exclaimed before turning around to leave the place, leaving Thea regretful of her answer

She turned walking towards the glass door noticing her teammates spying on her from behind the door, they seemed to be arguing and didn't realize that Thea had discovered them until they looked back out the door, colliding glances with Thea's, who sighed deeply, her torture was just beginning.

Thea laid her head on the table with a sigh of relief, after having answered all the questions that Ms. Chu, Mo-tak and Hana had asked her, she could finally breathe, it had been so exhausting answering question after question but they eventually left the subject aside a few hours ago.

When they had finally gotten what they wanted.

"Did Mun say his parents died in a car accident?" Mo-tak asked lying on one of the tables

"That's what he said" Ms. Chu replied as both girls were sitting across from her at the table "And that's when he hurt his leg"

"And that was seven years ago, right?"

"Why?" She curiously asked

Thea had thought a lot about the matter, and had decided that it would be better to tell the team to know about their opinions and to be able to solve this more easily.

"It might not have been an accident" Thea revealed placing her chin on top of her hands, everyone turned to look at her with surprise

"What?" Mo-tak said getting up from the table as soon as he heard Thea's words

"I read into his memory" Thea elaborated, clearly remembering the memory as if it was hers

"If it wasn't..."

"A fabricated accident. Homicide" Hana said nodding her head to which Mo-tak hastily approached the table where the three women were sitting

"Elaborate" He asked looking at Thea waiting for an answer

"He was barely conscious, so it's not for sure" Thea exclaimed shaking her head "'They're dead. All taken care of' that's what he said"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, I heard it clearly" She nodded "That man who hit them did it to take Mun's parents' lives"

"It wasn't just 'that man,' it's 'those men'" Mo-tak corrected "There's the guy who said, 'all taken care of.' And the other one who heard that"

Thea narrowed her eyes as she ventured deep into the memory, until she managed to find what she hadn't noticed.

"You're right. There were two men"
Thea confirmed

"Did you see their faces?"

"No, Mun lost his consciousness, so nothing after that" Thea shook her head making the group sigh in frustration

"Man, what's happening here?" Ms. Chu murmured

"Do you know the date? Was there a clock or something?" Mo-tak questioned once again with hopes in his voice

"So, what if she does?" Ms. Chu reproach with a frown on her face

"I wanted to look into it" He responded as Thea ventured deep into the memory once more

"The mayoral election. I heard an update for the count on the radio" Thea responded as she remembered what she had heard on the radio

"Mayoral election" Mo-tak repeated beneath his breath as he took out his phone from his pocket "One second. 2013 mayoral election. Ms. Chu, that kid and I both fell into a coma on the same day"

"What?" Asked the three women at the same time

"Mun's parents and I got into an accident on the same day. October 24th, 2013" Mo-tak explained just as surprise as the women were

"What did you say?"

"It's a bit too uncanny to call this..." Hana began to say tilting her head to the side

"A coincidence" Mo-tak completed Hana's words "I need to go out" He said hastily getting up from the chair

"Wait"

"Don't share what we just said with Mun. The three of you" He warned them putting on his jacket, but before he could leave, Jangmul's car parked outside the restaurant "Wow, the old man got a new car again"

The group watched as the eldest entered the restaurant, leaving his luxurious new car outside. Everyone got up from their places with respect to the older one, who removed the dark glasses from his face when he stood in front of the group of counters.

"Your new car has a scary engine sound" Ms. Chu complained "Dying to get to the after life?" She joked

"I can't take my money when I pass onto the afterlife. I need to use it up" He pointed to his car with a laugh "May I have a coffee?" He asked looking over at Hana who gave a nod

"We live in the year 2020. How dare you make her do that?" Ms. Chu reproached when Hana was going to make his coffee "Forget it" Hana smiled before taking a seat

"No one has sat in the passenger's seat yet. Do you want to go for a drive? Since we live in 2020?" Jangmul proposed to Ms. Chu

"I wouldn't sit there even if you gave me your entire fortune" Ms. Chu responded savagely to which Jangmul turned around opening his mouth in an exaggerated manner making Thea let a small giggle out

Everyone there knew the enemies to lovers kind of thing between Ms. Chu and Jangmul, one flirted and the other rejected each of the flirts as if they were nothing.

"I know you fell for my beard" Ms. Chu turned around with a frown on her face before pulling his beard with annoyance, Jangmul groaned in pain

"Why are you here?"

"Right, how's the kid?" He asked approaching the group that remained seated around the table

"Oh, Mun?" Jangmul nodded in response

"He's coming in right now" Mo-tak pointed as the boy entered the restaurant still wearing his school uniform

"Whose car is that out there?" Mun asked with a huge smile on his face, Mo-tak pointed to the old man sitting next to him "Hello" He immediately bowed

"You must be Mun" Jangmul said getting up from the chair "Why? Does it not seem right for me?"

"No, what do you mean? That's an English gentleman's car. You've all seen 007 franchise. The main character gets in that car in a sharp suit! Wow!" He quickly exclaimed which made the group laugh

"Do you study cars? I like this kid's personality. Take a seat" Jangmul pointed as Mun pulled out a chair to sit next to the older man "You've now joined our team. Take this" He handed him a black card "It's a counter's card"

"Counter's card?"

"Yes, well, you won't have to use it too often if you go around with your team. But you can use it in an emergency" He began to explain  "When a case is closed, you should always change out your clothes or anything that can be used as evidence. You can also use it for food, housing, and commuting. Feel free to use it as long as you do it as a counter" Mun smiled understanding "And... this is a device that can kill security cameras" He explained showing Mun a small device

"What?" He asked receiving it before turning it on, looking around in search of a camera  "Wait" Ms. Chu patted his shoulder before pointing to the cameras behind her. Mun pointed the device towards the cameras and they immediately began to glitch"Whoa!"

"But use it only in an emergency. It disturbs this world's rules. It's considered cheating"

"Oh, I see"

"And there's no credit limit on this card. You can use 10 million won or even 100" Jangmul presumed

"What?" Mun questioned with his eyes wide open

"Mun, have you heard of Jangmul Retail?" Ms. Chu asked him with a small smile on her face

"Kids don't know anything about business" Jangmul commented as he laughed

"A man among the top 50 richest Koreans, the chairman of Jangmul Retail" Mo-tak explained "A counter who's in charge of finances, our financier"

"Oh, he's..." Mun said without any words to describe how amazed and surprised he was

"Yes. In a word, I'm the team's sugar daddy" He said checking his watch before getting up from his chair

"Are you leaving? You should stay for dinner" Ms. Chu offered, copying his actions

"No, I have to go" He shook his head "And you have to prove your spending at the end of the year. I'll cut off your hands if I catch you stealing my money. I'll seriously do it"Jangmul warned making Mun nod almost instantly "Bye"

"Goodbye" They said their goodbyes as the man left the restaurant with Mo-tak following behind him, although he stopped once he was in front of Mun

"Goodbye. Your ID" Mo-tak asked him for his ID

"What?"

"I need it. For a bank account" He responded extending his hand

"Give it to him. He's making you a bank account" Ms. Chu said to which Mun took out his ID

"Oh, okay" He handed it over to Mo-tak "Thank you"

"No training today. Get some rest" Mo-tak commented before leaving the restaurant

"Yes!" Mun excitedly exclaimed

"Let's eat, then" Ms. Chu suggested once both men left the restaurant

Ms. Chu headed into the kitchen with Hana behind whereas Thea sat on one of the chairs with her phone in front of her.

"Hey, about the details of the date, do you mind if I wait for you around the corner where you live? After all, you told me not to go near that place" Thea read the message she received a few minutes ago "Let's do it tomorrow afternoon, I want to see you as soon as possible"

"Aish this brat..." She murmured beneath her breath before Mun took the opportunity to approach her

"Hey, Thea. Did you watch the news? The couple from the trail was on the news" He exclaimed as he sat next to her

"Don't. Don't ask me to do any favors" She shook her head refusing to do any favors for him

"I'm sure their daughter has heard the news" He insisted. Thea looked at him expressionless before putting a mischievous smile on her face

"Ms. Chu!" She started to say out loud before Mun abruptly covered her mouth in order to stop her from ratting him out

"No!"

"What are you two doing!?" Ms. Chu asked from the kitchen

Thea placed one of her hands over Mun's, who turned to look at her almost as soon as he felt the warmth of her hand on his.

"Fine, I'll help you, but you have to do it in a way she doesn't notice" Thea said giving up, how could she refuse those eyes?

"Got it" Mun nodded without being able to tear his eyes from Thea's, he had been the only one to notice the closeness between their faces, and he had the opportunity to admire the brown-haired girl up close, her beautiful brown eyes that looked almost gold in the sunlight, her long eyelashes, her barely noticeable freckles on her cheeks, and her plump, red lips that at any moment could make him lose control and crash his lips against hers without any warning "Beautiful...." He murmured not realizing what he had just said

"What?" Thea asked raising both of her eyebrows in surprise, had he really said that?

"What?" He repeated looking away with embarrassment, his cheeks turning red as he realized what he had said, did she heard that?

Thea looked at him suspiciously before turning her gaze to the device in her hands, hiding her red cheeks and her beating heart that seemed to go crazy at those words, why does he make her feel this way?

Sometimes the way in which someone manages to make you feel a thousand things without putting a finger on you is admirable.

Little does she know that the boy next to her had noticed her trembling hands and couldn't help but wonder is she felt the same way he felt whenever she's around.

Author's note:

I'm going crazy y'all! I want more romance between the two of them, I can't wait for them to confess everything they feel for each other, I really wish I could move things forward but a slow burning romance is more interesting than a fast burning romance, and I mean they both know that they're already in love with each other but things will go at a slow pace in order to give more drama to the story.

I want to take a moment to explain Thea's powers, so she can basically copy the powers of her teammates, and from time to time she uses Ms. Chu's healing powers because she forbade Thea to use them since it would take years off her life.

Thea will also take some of the scenes that belongs to Hana in order to put more moments between Mun and Thea so my apologies in advance but I had to do it, I don't want to put Thea as the typical jealous girl that appears in the story and paint her as bad person for some small acts of jealousy so that's why I decided to change that.
