"Hey Misaki," said a familiar voice.
Misaki spun around to find that her brunette friend was right there. Not Alya, but Jamie.
Jamie was a bright-spirited petite girl with light brown eyes and lots of puns. She wasn't like Alya, yet she was a trustable girl. Misaki knew if she were to tell her of her past life, she would be the one most likely to believe her, yet she still couldn't find herself able to mention it.
"Hey, so did you know that your calendar's days are numbered?" Jamie cracked with a goofy grin.
"Jamie..." Misaki groaned.
"Okay, you have to admit, that one was more a-peeling," Jamie laughed, pulling out a banana from her backpack, offering it to her friend.
"Seriously though, do you want a banana? You look like you need the energy," Jamie asked, holding it out to her.
"Sure. Thanks," she took the banana from her friend, peeling it.
Sometimes, just being near her friend made her miss her old friends, like Chat Noir and Alya. She even missed Nino a lot of the time. Oh for goodness sakes, sometimes even Chloe's taunting seemed too distant to even have truly occurred.
A lot of the time, Misaki wondered if being Marinette was just a memorable dream or if it was a distant reality. She missed her parents, her friends, her classmates. Mostly, she missed the boy she loved: Adrien Agreste.
"Shall we get to class?" Jamie asked, snapping Misaki out of her thinking mode.
"Yeah, sure!" She replied, following her friend to class.
Stepping into the classroom, Misaki looked around as she imagined it as her old classroom. She looked down at herself to see her old outfit against her creamy white skin: her pink jeans, her grayish-brown blazer over her white flower-printed t-shirt, her favorite baby pink flats with little black bows over the toes. She saw Adrien and Nino laughing and talking like they normally would. She saw her best friend Alya wave at her. Marinette saw her black-blue pigtails tied with red ribbons, barely touching her shoulders.
"Whoa Misaki, are you okay? You seem really dazed this morning," Jamie caught Misaki drifting off into a daydream again.
"Don't worry, I'm totally fine! I'm just a little tired is all," Misaki laughed away the small tears she felt brimming at the corners of her eyes, pushing off the homesick feeling.
Noticing her friend was upset for some reason, Jamie pulled her into a hug. Misaki fell into the hug, but held away her sadness. She remembered how Alya was always there for her. No matter what day, time, or event, her old friend would always save the day.
"I'm okay," Misaki whimpered, not convincing Jamie.
"Misaki, you're crying. What's going on?" Jamie asked her, concerned for her friend.
"I promise you... everything is fine. I'm just tired to say the least," she whispered the last part.
Jamie sighed, knowing her friend wouldn't talk immediately. She hoped she could soon feel better, whatever was bothering her.
Once they sat down in their seats, class had begun. "Good morning students," the teacher greeted them.
The class mumbled back their greeting as they began pulling out their homework from the night before. As Misaki reached her hand down into her backpack to grab her assignment, she noticed a boy staring at her.
"Jamie, what's he doing?" Misaki asked her friend, a little confused as to why he began staring at her.
"Oh, you mean Sasuke? I'm not sure, but I think he likes you. Ooh, Misaki has a boyfriend," Jamie giggled, teasing in a sing-song voice.
"Shh! Don't let people hear! Besides, I already love Adri- I mean no one. I don't like anybody," Misaki caught her slip-up, still blushing from just thinking about the boy she loved from her previous life. Oh, how she missed him.
"But I think you've got yourself a boyfriend..." Jamie smirked playfully, yet a devious undertone still lying beneath.
"He's kinda cute, but I don't like anybody at the moment..." Misaki sighed, missing Adrien. She missed Chat Noir so much as well.
After her death as Marinette, she wondered how he was doing. Did he have a new partner? Did he miss her half as much as she missed him?
Her mind snapped back to Adrien, hoping he was still okay.
How long had it been exactly since she last had looked in the mirror to see Marinette, her true form, looking back at her with her ocean blue eyes?
Of course she couldn't complain about having her new pun-loving friend who could make her feel better in pretty much any situation.
"Misaki?" Jamie waved her hand in front of her friend's face, trying to bring her back to reality.
"Sorry, I'm just thinking," Misaki told her as soon as she realized she was drifting away in her thoughts once more.
"You tend to do a lot of that. You're definitely smart, I can see that. Are you secretly Ladybug?" She joked, nearly causing her poor friend to pass out.
Other than reflexively panicking about her secret identity nearly being blurted without Jamie knowing how right she actually was, she was relieved to hear her old life being mentioned by another person once again.
"Nope! Why would you think that?!" Misaki asked in a panicky tone.
"I was kidding, Misaki," Jamie laughed lightly, assuring the girl.
"Okay class, we have finals coming up soon! Make sure to begin studying soon, so you score well!" The teacher reminded them before dismissing them from class.
"Hey Misaki, are you a diamond?" Jamie asked her friend playfully.
"What the heck is that supposed to mean?" She replied, already knowing what was coming.
"Cause you seem to be under a lot of pressure lately!" Jamie finished her pun with a laugh, causing Miaski to snort, giggling a little.
"That one was terrible," Misaki told Jamie, laughing.
"But you're laughing now. That's the idea!" Jamie smiled, giggling.
Misaki rolled her eyes with a playful smile, knowing how her friend was.
"Whoa, look who's staring again," Jamie pointed out Sasuke, a smirk taking its place on her face.
Misaki blushed, but walked off with Jamie off to their next class.
