Once Was Mine
Hi! I am back with another Kamjay fic for you all. There is such a drought of Kamjay stories and Kamjay moments and I am floundering. I want more!!!!! I think a lot of my fellow Kamjay shippers are in the same boat here, so hopefully this fic will help to alleviate what you are missing. As I said in my previous one-shot, I got a bunch of recommendations of types of stories to write. This fic is another one of those along with a hint of some fantasy magic. I'll just say that it has something to do with one of Jay's many nicknames. I won't say more than that, so I hope that you enjoy it!
Kamden smirks lightly as he creeps into a wide circular room where a dim light covered in cobwebs illuminates everything just enough for him to see. He carefully lets the wooden door close behind him before stalking forward. His eyes gleam as he scans over cases holding various gems and pendants. His hands hover above perfectly shaped statues from eras long past. His lips curl into a grin as he browses the piles of goods, pondering silently to himself which he should claim as his.
He won't be able to carry any of the massive paintings or that beautifully colored vase. The pure gold fountain pen will slip easily into his pocket though and so will the vintage perfume bottle in the shape of a fish. The first edition novel with its slightly yellowed pages is a must have. Along with those ivory cufflinks and silver plated brooch. As Kamden fills his well-concealed pockets and the hidden bags strapped around his waist, he hums to himself happily. The soft thrills of his voice echoing throughout the rather hollow room.
Clang!
Kamden stiffens at the sudden sound. His hand slowly moves to his chest and pulls out a curved blade. His head swivels back and forth as he searches for the source of the noise.
Clang!
Kamden tightens his hold on his weapon as he rushes towards the direction that the sound came from. He expects to come face to face with one of the gangsters that own this place. Much to his surprise though, he is met with the wide eyes of a young man around his age. Dark brown locks press flat against a sweat lined forehead. A thick cloth is tied around his mouth and his arms are twisted behind his back. He sits within a metal cage meant for a large animal.
Kamden's arms lower and he relaxes when he sees no threat. He stares at the tied up man with his head cocked slightly to the side. He wonders who he is and why he is down here. The Leviathan Gang is known for getting their hands on the most wondrous of items and selling them on the black market. They've never shied away from getting the most desired and talked about goods, but they have never gone this far. Kamden knows this better than anyone. He's a longtime competitor and enemy of the Leviathan Gang after all. And while there has never been much of a code for criminals like them, they both know that going after a human being is breaking one too many rules. Leviathan wouldn't pull something like this unless this man was something really special.
"Let's get you out of here," Kamden says as he kneels in front of the cage. He takes the tip of his blade and picks at the massive padlock. Thankfully, it is rusted, so it doesn't take much to force it to open. He quickly unlatches it and swings open the door. The man looks at him with thankful eyes as Kamden carefully cuts away the binds on his wrists. As the blood tinged ropes fall to the ground, the man reaches for the gag covering his mouth and yanks it away. He opens and closes his mouth, stretching out his jaw. "Thank you..." He says in a scratchy tone, trailing off at the end and flashing Kamden a quizzical expression.
"Kamden," The thief states.
"Kamden," The man repeats, "I'm Jay."
"It's nice to meet-" Kamden starts to say only to be cut off by a loud blaring alarm.

"Come on!" Kamden shouts. Jay is quick to follow him. His eyes widen as they rush through the halls of the Leviathan compound. Thankfully, Kamden is more than knowledgeable about the layout of this place and will have no problem getting them both out of here.
He makes a sharp left at the end of the hall, glancing over his shoulder to make sure Jay is still trailing behind him. The young man is panting softly, but provides a curt nod to let him know he is alright. Kamden nods back before turning back around. He is faced immediately with a group of at least fifteen people glaring at him. Kamden's lips curl into a frown. They're blocking their way out of this place. There's no way that Kamden can fight off these guys on his own, especially when he needs to watch over Jay at the same time. He curses under his breath as he takes a step back. His eyes dart back and forth as he tries to figure out a way to deal with this situation as the gangsters start to approach them. Before he can come up with a solution, Jay takes off from where they came from. Kamden's head whips to the side, his expression contorting in shock. "Jay?" Kamden calls with wide eyes, "What are you..." He trails off as Jay returns, but this time with something in his hands. It is about the same size as a sniper rifle, but unlike a gun it has a wide metal spout and is connected to a metal cylinder. Kamden stares at it with wide eyes before glancing up at Jay, whose face is completely serious. "Giving us an opening," Jay says simply as he presses the trigger.
Instantly, a steady stream of fire shoots from the flamethrower. It coats the gangsters who are blocking their way. They shout and thrash as their clothes ignite in ribbons of orange. Kamden gapes at the sight. His head whipping back and forth between the burning gangsters and the mystery person he had freed. Jay doesn't seem even a bit bothered as Kamden stares, continuing to shoot fire until the gangsters part just enough for them to pass. As they do, Jay drops the flamethrower and starts to run. He stops when he notices that Kamden isn't following behind him. "Come on!" Jay exclaims, "This is the way out, right?" Kamden blinks a couple of times, still in complete disbelief that this is even happening. He quickly snaps out of his stupor though as one of the gangster lunges at him. He quickly dodges them and rushes to his new ally's side.
The two run down the hall as fast as they possibly can. The sounds of the gangsters mixing with the echoing thuds of their feet. Thankfully, the hall isn't too long and they are able to reach a set of double doors in no time. They don't hesitate to burst through one after the other.
They stumble onto dusty dirt and the soft hum of a LED light attached to the building. The sky is pitch black and a full moon lights up the path just enough for them to be able to see. "This way..." Kamden murmurs, tugging lightly on Jay's sleeve. He turns towards the left only to once more be met by a shadowy figure. He takes a step back, shielding Jay, as the figure steps into the light. Kamden's eyes instantly narrow when he sees the identity of the individual. The Head of Leviathan, Na Kyungsoo, a heavy set man known for his strength and greed. He is dressed in a tank and baggy cargo like pants. His lips are curled into a perpetual frown and his brow slightly furrowed. His left ear isn't there. The appendage is entirely missing and replaced by a spider web of scars. "Why am I not surprised?" Kyungsoo hisses in a grave tone, "Only the great Na Kamden would be daring enough to come onto our turf."
He begins to reach for his blade, but before he can there is a gust of wind. Jay jumps slightly in surprise and turns to look in the direction of the movement. He is surprised to see that the spot where Kamden once stood is now empty. He turns around and his eyebrows raise when he sees him looming behind Kyungsoo. He holds a curved blade in his hand that he has looped around the gangster's right ear. "You talk too much," Kamden murmurs. His face betrays no emotion. His wrist turns slightly to cut away at Kyungsoo's remaining ear. Before he can though, his face scrunches up in pain. His hand shakes before dropping his curved knife. He steps away from Kyungsoo, fixing an angry look in his direction and clutching at his side. "Ah, ah, ah..." Kyungsoo chuckles, "You've pulled this trick before. Did you think I'd fall for it again?" He waves his jagged blade which is covered in streaks of blood tauntingly.
"Kamden!" Jay shouts.
"Stay back, Jay..." Kamden calls out, "I'm fine." He pulls his hand away and grimaces when he sees the blood pouring from his wound. He presses back down, his nose wrinkling as he tries to stop the bleeding. Kyungsoo claps his hands, drawing Kamden's attention back to the gang leader. "So brave...putting on a straight face just for him," Kyungsoo says, "You know that you're not going to recover from this. Not with the poisons I paint my blades with..." He hums under his breath as he walks closer to Kamden. He keeps his weapon pointed away from him in an attempt to show he isn't going to attack him. "Listen...just give us back the boy and I'll get you an antidote," Kyungsoo states, "I'll even let you walk away and we can pretend this never even happened. What do you say?" He cocks his head to the side and flashes Kamden a questioning expression. The thief takes a deep breath and straightens. He closes the distance between them and places his hands on Kyungsoo's outstretched arms. A smile appears on his face. An expression that Kyungsoo is quick to match.
"No deal," Kamden states as he tightens his grip on Kyungsoo's arms. He takes the one that is holding the knife, twists it and slams it upwards. The blade imbeds itself straight into Kyungsoo's chest, eliciting a sharp yell from the gang leader. Kamden grits his teeth as he uses his entire strength to knock Kyungsoo to the ground. The man hits it with a loud thud and thankfully doesn't get back up. Kamden lets out a breath of relief and looks towards Jay, who is staring at him with worried eyes. He opens his mouth to console the other, but finds himself unable to do so as everything turns pitch black.
———————
"Flower, gleam and glow...let your power shine...make the clock reverse, bring back what once was mine," A sweet voice sings. Their voice reverberates in the air and sends chills through Kamden's body. He slowly starts to become aware of his surroundings. A slight breeze stinging his skin. Sharp pebbles jab into his shoulder blades. A warm touch at his side.
He forces his eyes to slowly open. Everything appears slightly fuzzy and out of focus. He sees the outline of a person looking over him. His eyes glow a shimmering gold and his lips are pressed together with concern. A similar colored light frames his face in an ethereal halo. He seems to notice Kamden looking up at him with half-lidded eyes as relief flickers across his face. His lips part slightly as he sings, "Heal what has been hurt...change the fates' design...save what has been lost, bring back what once was mine...what once was mine..."
Those ending notes reverberate and echo for a couple of seconds before everything falls completely silent. As it does, the golden light fades away.
Kamden's eyes fully open as his surroundings become clear. He slowly rises from where he is sprawled out on the ground of some small cave. He leans slightly on Jay, who helps to steady him. His eyes flick down to his blood tinged clothes. His hand move to his wound, which has somehow no longer there. The pain has completely disappeared and if it weren't for the memory of the moment, Kamden would have believed he imagined the injury. "Am I..." Kamden questions.
"You're alive," Jay states, "And no, you're not hallucinating..."
"But...I...my injuries..." Kamden mutters, "They're..." He turns his head to look at Jay, the image of his eyes shining bright gold flashing through his mind. Something like that shouldn't be possible. And yet, here he is when he should have died from his wound. "Did you...did you heal me?" Kamden asks.
"Yes," Jay states.
"How?" Kamden questions. Jay's eyes dart to the side. He bites his lower lip and his face contorts with confliction. Kamden reaches a hand out and places it on his shoulder. He squeezes it, drawing Jay's eyes back to his own. Kamden doesn't speak. He just looks at Jay with slightly quirked up lips. This seems to be enough to relax the other who lets out a quiet breath before speaking. "I've always had these abilities," Jay explains, "Since I was born, this golden light would appear and I would be able to give life to...anything."
"That's amazing..." Kamden muses.
"Not really..." Jay frowns.
"What do you mean?" Kamden asks.
"These powers have only made things harder for me," Jay states, "That gang's den isn't the first that I've been in and it most definitely won't be the last. I have something that people want and they will do anything to have me as a weapon in their arsenal."
"What about your family?" Kamden questions.
"As soon as they saw what I could do, they hid me away," Jay sighs, "Not very well either cause I was found in less than a year and have been on the run since then...I don't even remember who my parents were and even if I did I don't know if I would bother trying to find them. It's not like they have been searching for me...I guess they just realized that I'm not worth the trouble."
"Well, it's their loss," Kamden states, "You're really amazing, Jay. Not just because of your power. I think that you are worth every ounce of trouble."
And that's where we are ending off. It's not a very long one-shot but again I am hoping to set up for a future fic. If you would like to see this further developed let me know in the comments. Also, in regards to the prompt that I used, it was about Kamjay being partners in crime. I added my own twist to it by giving Jay some powers which relate to a certain Disney heroine that I'm sure you all can recognize. I hope that you enjoyed this little twist. If you have any other ideas or prompts you have, please leave a suggestion below. I would love to hear what type of stories my fellow Kamjay shippers want to read. With that said, thank you again so much for reading. I hope that you enjoyed it. If you could please vote, comment, follow me, add this story to your library and check out the last Kamjay OS that I posted not too long ago. Until next time, bye!
P.S. This is my second like fantasy sort of themed Kamjay story. I do write non-fantasy/non-fictional. I just haven't done it yet, so if anyone is waiting for like a realistic fiction angst fic, it will come!
