Love wins all

Hi! I am back with a new one-shot. It's kinda a BTS one-shot but it also heavily features IU. I stumbled across a whole bunch of pictures and prompts that basically presented this idea of vigilante IU and her partner in crime Yoongi. On top of that, with the release of the Love wins all MV, my mind has just been stirring about a Kdrama esque story featuring IU and our Bangtan Boys. This one shot is going to be a small part of a larger story and universe that I am thinking of developing. It takes place in what I think will be the middle of the story, but it is going to do a lot of exposition just so you can see the basic concept and idea of the fic. With that said, let's get into it!

The bar of Dlwlrma Foundation's theater is the only lit section of the otherwise completely shut down building. Yoongi sits on a stool and leans against the counter while Jieun shuffles around on the other side. She places two clear glasses down and fills them without saying a word. Yoongi picks up his glass and swirls the liquid around before stretching his arm out. Jieun clinks her glass against his before downing the drink. "So..." Yoongi says after taking his own sip, "Tell me about yourself."

"Since when do you make small talk?" Jieun questions.

"It's not small talk," Yoongi states, leaning back in his chair, "It's reconnaissance...if we're going to be working together, I want to know who you are. As of now, you know a lot more of me than I do of you...and I don't like that."

"Maybe, you shouldn't have been so flashy when you started this whole vigilante gig," Jieun smirks.

"It's not like I aimed to attract the attention of the media," Yoongi huffs.

"Sure, because going after criminals who were punished too lightly wasn't going to draw attention," Jieun says dryly. Yoongi rolls his eyes as he finishes the rest of his glass. He doesn't even need to ask for more as Jieun is quick to fill it back up for him. He looks at her with an unreadable expression on his face. He remembers when the news first broke about a new vigilante in the streets of Seoul. At first, people were quick to tie her with him. They quickly learned though that the two were nothing alike. They may both have a liking for violence, but their targets couldn't be more different. The new vigilante focuses her efforts on the corrupt. Those who use their status to get what they want. And while Yoongi has gone after one or two people who have lessened their sentence thanks to their money, it wasn't as frequent as it was for Jieun.

That's why when he had first heard about the new vigilante, he had ignored it. As long as she didn't get in the way of his work, he had no issues with there being someone else taking the law into their own hands. In all honesty, he had found it sort of funny that there was another vigilante out and about. It just showed how messed up their world actually is. Yoongi never expected to cross paths with her. He never expected for their goals to align and for him to partner up with someone again, especially with how poorly it had gone last time. And yet, here he is, sitting across from Jieun, trading stories.

"How familiar are you with Moira Group?" Jieun questions.

"They're one of the top companies in the country," Yoongi answers simply, "They started as a small startup and have grown at a rapid pace...just as their name says...they are the will of the gods..." The distaste can be heard in Yoongi's tone, clearly not a fan of the Group's tacky calling card. Jieun discreetly smiles at it before her expression becomes heavy once more. She places her glass down and crosses her arms over her chest, "If fate is real...it is playing a cruel game."

"What do you mean?" Yoongi questions, "Dlwlrma Foundation has no ties to Moira Group."

Jieun lets out a breath, "That is where you are wrong." Yoongi's eyebrows raise in curiosity. He leans forward and waits for Jieun to continue speaking. "Let me start from the beginning..." Jieun says, "Years ago, when the founder of Moira was still alive, she had struggled to conceive a child. It was beyond needing an heir for the company. She and her husband wanted to start a family. Even though the company shareholders were against it, they had decided to adopt. They went to their hometown of Daegu and took in a young child. They raised him and treated him as their own. His name was Kim Taejoon."

Jieun's shoulders stiffen as his name leaves her lips. She brings her glass up and slowly sips from it. She savors the burning feeling as the liquor trickles down her throat before speaking again. "Taejoon was bright. And friendly. He was so sincere and caring. He was...everything that Moira could have asked for in an heir. It didn't matter that he wasn't blood. Taejoon was going to become the new chairman of the company. Everyone had agreed...except for Hajoon."

"That's the current chairman, right?" Yoongi asks.

Jieun nods, "The founder ended up pregnant five years after taking in Taejoon. A blood son. Hajoon, unlike his adopted older brother, was cocky and entitled. He believed he deserved it all. He thought that it was his birthright to have Moira."

"And he got it," Yoongi mutters.

"He wasn't supposed to," Jieun scowls, "Even when he was born, nothing changed. Taejoon was still the heir in everyone's eyes. Hajoon knew it. That's why he started to lash out. He became entangled with the underworld."

"What?" Yoongi stiffens.

"You heard me," Jieun states, "Kim Hajoon had ties to the mafia. He still does...hell he basically is the mafia! How do you think the founder died? How do you think Taejoon followed only a month after? It was all set up by Hajoon. He had hoped that maybe he could get the company with his mom out of the way, but even when she passed everyone wanted Taejoon as the new chairman. Hajoon was never an option. So, he made himself the only option!"

Yoongi shakes his head. His hand moves to massage his temple. He's always had an inkling that something was up with the Moira group, but he could never figure out what. It all made sense now. Except one thing. "What I still don't get is how you're involved in all of this?" Yoongi asks. The woman falls silent for a moment before letting out a breath, "At the time, I went by the name Jihye. I was always interested in music...even from a young age, but my family was struggling financially. It was by chance that I got a spot in a music contest, but rather than attract the attention of any music company...I caught Taejoon's eye. He...for whatever reason put everything into me. He convinced his parents to help fund my schooling and give me access to the best teachers that I could ask for. Moira Group became my benefactor."

"Kim Taejoon did all that for you?" Yoongi questions.

Jieun nods, "I still don't understand it myself. He always said that my voice has a way of touching people...I don't know how true that is but Taejoon believed it. He wanted to help me on the journey to achieving my dreams..."

"And the two of you got close?" Yoongi asks.

"Surprisingly," Jieun says with a phantom smile, "I tried to distance myself at first. I thought people would get the wrong idea. I was already getting so much from Taejoon's family, I didn't want to come off as desperate, but Tae...he...he was so persistent...he wanted to be my friend. He made it his mission to get closer to me and eventually I just gave him a chance. And he became one of my closest friends...he became..." Jieun trails off for a moment. Her eyes become distant as she thinks of the past. It takes her a second, but she starts to speak again in a quiet muted tone. "As Taejoon and I got closer, he started to bring me along to the big company functions," Jieun says, "I met his parents...who were just as lovely as their son. They never made me feel out of place. When I was with them...I was with family..."

"What about Kim Hajoon?" Yoongi asks.

"He hated me because of my association with Taejoon," Jieun says simply, "He resented me when the Moira Group board members seemed to prefer my presence over his." Yoongi's eyebrows raise at these words. "It was never my intention, but as I spent more time with Taejoon, I became involved in Moira Group," Jieun admits, "I knew about the business operations. The partnership deals in the works. I sat in on multiple board meetings by Taejoon's side. I even helped develop the Moira Entertainment branch with Taejoon."

"So, you know better than anyone the extent of the crimes that Hajoon has committed," Yoongi says.

Jieun nods, "I know all of it. His family knew it as well. They did their best to keep him out of Moira Group. They didn't want any of his illegal methods as a part of the company. They knew that he would be bothered by this, so they did their best to still make him feel like a part of the family, but Hajoon didn't care about those things. He was...he was greedy. He wanted the status and the money that came with Moira Group. He didn't care what it took. He was willing to do anything to get what he wanted. That's why when the founder died...Taejoon knew instantly that it was Hajoon's fault."

"Did he confront him?" Yoongi asks.

Jieun shakes her head, "He was planning to, but with his mother's sudden death...Moira Group had no head. Things were in disarray. Even though his mother wrote in her will that the company would go to Taejoon, he still needed to be elected by the board. Regardless, he stepped up to ensure that the business would function until that time."

"But the board wanted Taejoon as the chairman, right?" Yoongi asks, "They've supported him as the heir since he was young."

Jieun nods, "They all knew how dedicated he was to the company. If he became the chairman, he would preserve the message and goals of Moira Group. Not to mention, the founder endorsed him in her will. He was the best choice."

"If that's the case, why did Hajoon even bother? Did he really think that Moira Group would go to him?" Yoongi questions.

"I don't know," Jieun shrugs, "Maybe, he thought he could coerce the board in some way to elect him instead of Taejoon...but I feel like deep down he just wanted to get rid of his mother. She was in his way and he couldn't take it anymore."

Yoongi presses his lips into a firm line and slowly nods his head. It's upsetting. The fact that someone would do that to their mother. And even more frightening is the fact that this man is still living his life without any consequences. Not just any life either. Kim Hajoon is living in luxury. His pockets spill over with cash. The public praises him for his work in Moira Group and for his dashing charms. It's infuriating. It's no wonder that Jieun has decided to take matters into her own hands. Yoongi wouldn't have been able to sit still if he were in her shoes either. Yoongi looks at Jieun. His lips flip into a frown when she sees the tense expression on her face. She's trying to cover it up, but her eyes have clearly become misty. "We can stop talking about this if it's too much," Yoongi states. Jieun's eyes flick to look at him and she quickly shakes her head. She blinks rapidly before clearing her throat. "I'm fine," she says stiffly.

Yoongi nods and hesitates for a minute more before asking, "Was Taejoon aware that his brother..." He trails off.

"Would kill him too?" Jieun finishes for him in a robotic tone. Yoongi stiffly nods again. Jieun sighs and grits her teeth into a firm line, "Tae...he...he was smart. I'd like to assume that he did know, but he never once mentioned it to me. I...I wish he had...I wish that I or any of the other board members could have seen this coming...he didn't make it obvious...but at the time he was preparing for the future."

"In what way?" Yoongi questions.

"By proposing," Jieun answers, "To me." Yoongi freezes. His eyes flick to Jieun, who doesn't even flinch as he stares. "Did you...were you..." Yoongi breathes.

"It's hard to explain," Jieun sighs, "Our relationship. We were never officially a thing, but we...we loved each other. Taejoon...he...I never saw a future without him in it...and now...everything...it still feels so wrong." She pauses for a moment and reaches into her pocket. She pulls out her phone and shows him a photo from her camera roll. It's a selfie of Jieun and a young man. His hair neatly gelled and his shoulders hugged by a long coat. The two lean against one another comfortably. Their lips curled into matching smiles.

Yoongi's eyes linger on the photo. The genuine happiness that shines in Jieun's eyes. The life that is flushed on Taejoon's cheeks. It stirs something deep inside of his gut. It flickers like a faulty light bulb in his brain. Even as Jieun pulls her phone away, the image of Taejoon lingers.

"I said no when he asked," Jieun states, "I thought he was joking and I said no... and then when he said he was serious I still said no..." She lets out a shaky breath. The next words that come spill from her mouth in a rushed manner, "I...I wasn't ready...I thought that we would have time...I...Tae...he agreed...we had time..." Her hands grip onto the countertop until her knuckles turn white. She looks at Yoongi, "He died a week later...he died and we weren't even engaged..."

"Jieun..." Yoongi murmurs.

"He died and I said no to him," Jieun chokes out, "I should have said yes...at least then...we could have been something...." Yoongi looks at her with concern. An expression that snaps her out of her stupor. Jieun forces herself to breathe. Her eyes sealing shut as she tries to calm down. She stays like this for a moment, "Taejoon changed my life...he was always giving me something...even after he was gone...he gave me one last thing...he gave me this...enough to start a new life...for the foundation...to get revenge."

Her eyes open. They are still glassy, but the sadness and pain have been replaced by this cold, hardened determined intent. "Now you know the full story," Jieun states.

Yoongi nods, "We will get him, Jieun."

"Is that a promise from the great vigilante?" Jieun questions dryly.

"It's a promise from a friend," Yoongi says. Jieun freezes, not having expected those words to come from his mouth. She lets out a shaky breath and meets his eyes, "My last friend died."

"So did mine," Yoongi responds without missing a beat.

"This time...will it be different?" Jieun asks hypothetically.

"The only thing that can combat the will of the gods...is the will of humans," Yoongi says.

Jieun scoffs lightly at that, "Taejoon used to say that..."

"Did he?" Yoongi questions with a raised eyebrow, "Can I...would you show me a picture of him again?" Jieun's nose scrunches in confusion, but she heeds his request. She reaches into her pocket and pulls up a different picture. This time it is an image solely of Taejoon. Yoongi looks at the photo. His heart racing in his chest. His eyes lock on a smile that is all too familiar to him. He is hesitant to believe it, but the longer he looks at Taejoon, the less he can deny the truth. He knows this man. He knew him at least. "Kim Taehyung..." Yoongi breathes.

What do you think? Does it warrant a full length story? I had fun writing it and already have a vague idea of what the rest of the story would be. Let me know your opinions though. Thank you for checking out this one-shot. Please vote, comment, follow me, add this story to your library and check out my BTS AU Night of Sin! Until next time, I hope you have a great rest of your day!
