Just a Little Accident

Hey! It's been a while hasn't it. For those of you who don't know, I took a break from writing to give my wrist some time to heal. It's still not a hundred percent better, but I really want to write so I'm back. I have another BTS one-shot for you all. It's going to be sweet and nerve-wracking and a bit insane. You'll see what I mean when you read it. With that said, let's get into this one-shot.

It's early in the morning. Around six. Namjoon walks around their dorms, calling out to his members. He doesn't get any answers. He shouldn't. All the other members have schedules today and had left the house a good hour ago. Namjoon is the only one that's been given the day off. He's happy about it. Even though he knows he's going to be pretty busy with his own stuff. That stuff just so happens to be something that he's been planning for weeks. He got the idea at night, when he should've been sleeping, but couldn't. He's been preparing since then. He had the idea to make a nice dinner for all of the members. He researched for days. Scrolling through loads of articles, watching a bunch of YouTube videos, and reading piles of books titled cooking for dummies. He smuggled in loads of produce and ingredients into an old mini fridge, which they hadn't taken the time to unpack when they moved to the new dorms. Namjoon had planned out everything. He was going to make the perfect meal for the boys. Namjoon isn't the best of chefs, but he is putting in his all for this one meal. It's a meal to say thank you and I love you. It's a meal for his brothers. He wants to show them how much he cherishes them. What better way to do just that than a home cooked meal? He's always been told that the way to someone's heart is through food. He can only hope that this goes well and he's able to pull this off. Namjoon bites his lip as he enters the kitchen. His heart is racing, nervous about messing it all up. He starts by bringing out all of his ingredients. He washes the vegetables and sets them on the countertop. He takes out pots and pans before turning to grab his phone. His hands shake a little as he brings up the recipe he found online for beginners. It's an extravagant dish, but it'll be simple enough for even the most inexperienced of chefs. He takes a deep breath before starting. Things go fairly well. He doesn't cut himself with a knife and the vegetables are somewhat chopped well. He seasoned the meat well enough and hopefully evenly. Nothing had burnt yet, but he wasn't out of the clear until the chicken went into the oven. Suddenly, the oven dings, signaling that it has finished preheating. Namjoon slips on oven mitts and carefully lifts the pan with the chicken in it. He slips it inside and shuts the oven door. He sets another timer and lets out a deep breath. That didn't go as bad as he had been thinking. This may be the first time he will succeed in cooking a meal. He bends down to look at the chicken and nods his head. Namjoon starts to clean up, which goes quickly since he's kept a surprisingly clean workstation. When he finishes, he glances at the timer. He frowns when he sees he still has over an hour of time left. Namjoon sighs and slowly makes his way to the living room. He plops onto the couch and shifts so that he is laying down comfortably. He doesn't even notice as his eyes fall shut and he falls into a deep sleep. He doesn't notice as his alarm goes off and smoke starts to fill the dorms. He's too tired to notice. He's in a state where he is unable to react to the destruction that's about to happen.

----------

Meanwhile, the rest of the boys had met up before heading back to the dorms together. When they had pulled up, they could already spot the smoke cloud in the sky. Their eyes bugged from their heads as their dorm come into view. "Oh no!" Their driver exclaims as he stares at the scene outside the window. The building is lit in flames and smoke is pouring from it in waves. The crackling of the fire attacking the building's infrastructure can be heard. "Quick...someone call the fire department!" One of their managers exclaims as one of the other managers fumbles with her phone. The boys' eyes remain on their home as flames lick the sides of the building. "How in the world did this happen!?" Jimin shouts, his face filled with worry.

"Don't worry. Stay calm and stay in the car. The thing that matters is that you are all in the car and not inside," The manager says in the most calm tone he can muster. The other manager is speaking on her phone with the fire department, trying to handle the situation smoothly. Chucks of the roof and walls have already started to fall. The boys can't do anything, but watch and hope for the fire department to get there fast. "Wait...Namjoon hyung...what about Namjoon hyung!?" Jungkook exclaims. The van falls silent and the worst possible scenario runs through all their minds. This has just become ten times as big of a deal. It's enough that their home is falling apart, but there's a chance that their leader. Their friend. Their brother. He could be trapped inside the burning prison of death. "Let's not jump to conclusions..." Yoongi says, his voice only wavering a little, "Can someone call him?"

"What if he's in there?" Hoseok asks, "Do you think he's hurt?"

"No...he can't be," Taehyung mutters, his face pale.

"What did I say!?" Yoongi snaps, "We won't know until we-"

"He's not answering," Jin states, staring at his phone with a blank expression. The car falls silent once more, except for the manager, who is relaying this information to the emergency number. "He didn't have a schedule today..." Jimin says, "I talked to him last night and he said he was just going to hang out at home."

"He's still in there," Jungkook whispers, tears already filling up.

"Or his phone died while he was out with a friend," Yoongi says quickly, even though it's clear that he doesn't quite believe his own words.

"Hyung is smart..." Jungkook says, "He has to be okay. Right?" No one answers Jungkook and tears start to fall from his eyes. The others comfort their maknae, trying to think positively. Hoseok's voice shakes as he turns to their manager, "When will they get here? They need to stop the fire. They need to save Namjoon!"

"They're on their way right now. Stay calm," The manager answers.

"Will you all stop saying that?! How are we supposed to be calm?! How!? When that's happening outside. When our house is a giant campfire! How do you expect us to stay calm? It's impossible. Staying calm is not possible until we know that Namjoon hyung is safe," Taehyung cries with fear flashing in his eyes. The van falls silent for the nth time. What could you say to that? Taehyung is right. They have every right to have a freak out. They have every right to be worried. "The fire department will be here soon," The manager murmurs, glancing at the window with a solemn expression. The rest of the group look out the window as well, anxious for the firefighters to get there and put a stop to this. To save their home. To confirm that Namjoon isn't in there. To say everything is going to be alright. "They can't get here fast enough..." Jimin mutters, "Please be okay, Namjoon. Please don't be in there. I don't even want to think of us without you. We can't lose you..."

------

Namjoon doesn't understand what's happening. He feels weird. Almost like he isn't even in his own body. He tries to move, but he can't. He tries to open his eyes, but he can't. It's puzzling. The last thing he remembers is putting the chicken in the oven and going to the couch to take a nap. How did he end up here? Wherever here is? Namjoon feels funny, like his chest is collapsing in on itself. Like his lungs are not functioning right. Like everything isn't functioning right. He feels as if his body is moving, but it's not by his own will. He hears voices too, but they're faint. Almost like they're not even there. He can make it out. Sort of. He thinks they're saying his name. "Namjoon hyung...Namjoon hyung? Is he okay? Is he going to be okay?" A voice says. Namjoon recognizes the voice, but his head is too cloudy to identify it. He can tell by the urgency in the voice that something is wrong. Did something happen? Is someone hurt? Are his members okay? Did something happen while he was in the dorms? "Please be alright, Namjoon. I can't lose you. It's going to be okay. It has to be okay," Another voice says. Namjoon recognizes this voice as well, it's one that he knows really well. Who is it? "Clear the way! We need to get him to the hospital ASAP!" A voice shouts. This voice is a new one. Who needs to go to the hospital? Namjoon head feels foggy. He doesn't feel like he has a firm grasp on reality. On the situation. He hears things in an echoed bubble like sort of way. He hears crying and shouting and other unidentifiable noises. The noises and everything suddenly stops, and Namjoon feels as if he's sinking into nothingness.

------

Jungkook hasn't stopped crying since they rushed Namjoon out of the burning house. Jimin has been shaking and Taehyung's face has remained completely blank. Hoseok is panicking and Jin is trying his best to calm him down, even when he is freaking out just as much. Yoongi has been muttering to himself for a long time, trying to comfort his members and more so himself. The members had all wanted to go to the hospital with Namjoon, but the managers said it would be best for them to go a little later. None of them were in the right mind to accompany their friend to the hospital. They would not be able to make the trip. The boys weren't happy with this, but they had relented and allowed for a manager to go with Namjoon. The group had tried their best to compose themselves before heading to the hospital. They hadn't received much news except that Namjoon had suffered severe burns and lacerations from the house structure falling in on itself. Not to mention, the amount of smoke that Namjoon had inhaled was doing a number on his lungs. The hospital already had him hooked up to a breathing tube. The doctors were doing their best, but the injuries that Namjoon had acquired were extensive and life-threatening. He was in that house for too long. He got out at the last possible moment. He got out just in time. He wouldn't have made it if he was in there any longer. Any later and they doctors may not have been able to do anything. But, now, he still has a chance. That's what the nurses told the boys. It was supposed to offer comfort, but it didn't do much of that. It only served to stress and worry the boys more and more. What if Namjoon doesn't make it? How are they supposed to continue? How can you continue after losing someone like Kim Namjoon? Are they going to lose Namjoon!? The fear is eating away at them. They can feel it. A deep, aching, raw feeling building from within their stomachs. It makes them all feel sick. It won't get better until they're told that Namjoon is okay. Which he has to be. He just has to.

------

Namjoon groans as he starts to come to. His chest aches and his eyes are foggy. He blinks a couple of times, clearing his vision a little. He is hit with the bright light from the ceiling and he hears voices. He is surrounded in seconds by people in white coats. They assault him with questions and he answers the best he can. Namjoon is disorientated to say the least, not completely sure what had happened or where he is. The doctors fill him in the best they can and things start to clear up. A fire. One that Namjoon got stuck in. He has severe burns that required skin grafts as well as stitches along his chest. His lungs have been pumped with oxygen for the entirety of the time he's been in the hospital and only has been removed yesterday. Oh, and he's been in the hospital for a couple of days. Namjoon had woken up a couple of times, but the doctors put him to sleep, knowing it would be the best for him to heal. They decided to wean him off of it this morning and that's why Namjoon is awake. The doctors tell them that his friends have been visiting him every day and his family has already been informed of his condition. They leave to contact his friends and family about Namjoon awakening, leaving the leader to his own thoughts. Namjoon stares at the wall in front of him and lets out a sigh, which he instantly regrets as he feels his lungs ache. He wonders about the boys, how they dealt with this all. He had never meant for any of this to happen. He hopes they didn't worry too much. He hopes they're okay. Where are they staying if he burnt down the house? Oh, jeez, he burnt down their home trying to cook a chicken. This is why cooking is a bad idea when it comes to Namjoon. No cooking for dummies book could save him. Namjoon pouts, he had just wanted to cook a nice meal for his brothers. It was just an accident. He never expected to burn down their home! Suddenly, the door to his room flies open and the rest of his group rush in. He is swarmed instantly and the boys all talk over one another. Namjoon's head spins as the boys continue to speak. He doesn't know who is saying what. "Guys...guys..." Namjoon says as loud as he can muster. He frowns when his voice gets drowned out by Bangtan's endless chatter. "Guys! Guys! Guys!!!!" He exclaims, louder and louder each time.

"Guys!!!!" He shouts, before falling into a wheezing and coughing fit. He holds his chest and tries to steady his breathing. The boys' eyes all shoot open and they fuss over their leader. It takes a minute but, when Namjoon finally relaxes the boys start firing more words at him. Namjoon shakes his head, he went through all of that only to come back to this. "Guys...." Namjoon starts once more.

"Hey...guys!" Taehyung shouts, noticing Namjoon trying to say something. The room falls silent and their eyes all flit to Namjoon. The leader lets out a sigh of relief and says in a quiet tone, "I don't understand a thing you're saying. One at a time please." The group nods their head and start taking turns speaking.

"What were you thinking, Namjoon!? You know that you can't cook! Why did you try to cook?! You've been in the hospital for days! Do you know how worried we were?! We were so scared that the doctors would come back and tell us that they lost you. We were so worried. I've never been that scared in my entire life, Kim Namjoon. You cannot just scare me like that!" Yoongi exclaims.

Jin continues with a rant of his own, not letting Namjoon speak, "You should've waited for us to come back at least. It's okay if you were hungry, but you didn't have to try to cook! You could've ordered takeout and it would've been okay! You didn't have to try to make a whole chicken!"

"Are you alright, Joonie? You look so pale. Oh, Joonie, I was so scared. Do you know how worried I was? I couldn't stop shaking. The thought of losing you...it was just unbearable. You're better now though, aren't you?" Hoseok asks with a worried face, "Do you need anything? Does anything hurt? Please tell me you're doing better..."

"I'm fine. I don't need anything. You don't have to worry about me," Namjoon says, "I'm more worried about all of you...where have you been staying?"

Jimin pouts, "Hyungie...stop that. Stop thinking about us. We're fine. We have a place to stay. Don't worry. We don't care about the things we lost or the fact that we don't have any place to live. We care about you. We worried most about you. About your well-being. We're still anxious. We are still so scared. So worried. You looked really bad, hyungie, when they took you out of the house. You looked terrible. We wish we could've gotten there faster. You may not be in that bad of a shape if we had. Hyungie...we care so much about you. Let us...stop thinking about us. Think about you. Okay...hyungie. We'll take good care of you...like you take care of us."

"You have to not be so reckless, hyung. You always tell me and the others to be more careful. You have to be careful too. What even happened, hyung? We only know that the stove exploded because you burnt chicken. How did that even happen? You're not one to be that careful. If things had started to get out of hand, wouldn't you had called someone? No offense hyung, but you're no chef. I'm only saying this because I'm worried. I'm not mad. Well, I'm mad that you got hurt, but I'm not mad at you. I'm just upset to see you like this hyung. You never should've gotten hurt. You should be safe and nowhere near a hospital because of burns and cuts and smoke inhalation or anything."

"Hyung...rap monie hyung...," Jungkook says with teary eyes and smile, "Don't do this again. Please. I don't care why you did it or how it happened. Just please don't do something like this again. Something where you end up in the hospital. We can't take it. I can't take it. The fear eating at us as we wait. I know that you can't predict the future, but be careful. Try not to make this a thing. I can't stand it. Seeing you like this. Promise you won't get hurt. Promise you won't do anything crazy. Promise that we won't lose you. We can't lose you.... please just promise, hyung. Promise to us, Namjoon hyung, that it'll be okay. That you'll be okay. That we'll all be okay." The boys all nod their heads, agreeing with the youngest's words. They look to Namjoon with a mix of worry, care, anger, and plain love. Namjoon looks to them all with a fond look on his face. "I'm sorry. I didn't want any of this to happen. I feel bad for making you all worry. Please don't worry anymore. I'm alright. I'm sorry for putting you all through all of this. I know none of you are actually mad and you're just concerned about me. Please don't be. I'm fine. Please don't cry, Kookie. Don't cry any of you. Don't stress about me. I'm okay. I was just trying to make a meal. I guess I just fell asleep and didn't hear the alarm I set. I promise I won't cook. Especially without someone else to make sure I don't burn anything. I promise to not scare you like I did. I never want any of you to be afraid. I'll do my best to stay safe. In my defense, it was going well until I fell asleep," Namjoon says, "And for what it was worth, I wasn't just making a meal for myself. It was for all of you. I just wanted to show you all how much you all meant. I thought the best way was through some fancy meal. I had it all planned out too. I guess it just didn't go as planned. In the end, it was just a little accident."

"Just a little?" Yoongi says with a shake of his head, "Only you, Kim Namjoon, would call this a little accident." Namjoon shrugs, but flashes the group a small smile. Similar expressions appear on the others faces. Happy that, in the end, things are okay. "Next time just treat us to some food," Jin says, "And you do know this is just another reason added to the growing list of why I don't allow you into my kitchen."

"Yes, hyung," Namjoon says with a sigh. The leader pouts and the group can't help but laugh before piling into a big hug.

Finally done. Oof...this one-shot did not turn out the way I imagined. I don't know what I was thinking when I started this. It's kind of crazy. I'm not entirely satisfied with the way this turned out. It was a better idea in my head. I hope that you all enjoyed it though, even though I'm not that impressed with it. I will hopefully have better stories for you in the future. I'm happy to be back to writing and I can't wait to share more stories with you all. Please vote, comment, follow me, and add this story to your library. I will see you in the next one.
