Your Hope?

Nagito laughed and looked down at the floor, his eyes going between dark grey back to its normal greyish green.

"Someone like me is just a stepping stone for hope. Hope lies within all of you amazing ultimates!" He started. "That powerful hope that's used to overcome all despair! The students of Hope's Peak Academy main course...they're all so amazing. All of them can do so much for this world! They can all band together and defeat the despair that plagues the Earth and-"

You just sat there as the boy continued his rambling about hope and despair.

"I don't know whether to feel frightened or interested right now." You thought to yourself. All of this was so much to process. For some reason though, you just wanted to continue listening and to sit there with him. "The way hes going on and on about this too...its odd......meh, probably overthinking things again."

Finally, his fit was calming down and he sighed heavily regaining his thoughts, his eyes going back to normal now for good.

"I'm sorry for going on a tangent like that. I hope I didn't scare you like I do with the others, though it is just my personal opinion on the matter, I don't really understand why the others don't agree with me..."

Nagito's words trailed off and he seemed almost down for a few seconds until regaining his posture and flashing another carefree smile. You had to admit, his smile was really cute. It seemed so cheerful and full of light, and it actually calmed you down a bit.

"Hey, don't worry about it." You said attempting to sound composed. "Besides, I wouldn't just up-and-leave in the middle of a person speaking."

His eyes opened wide once more in surprise at your words.

"Thank you. A lot of people would just do that...or hit me..."

Your mind filled with sorrow for the sweet boy sitting across from you.

"I would never do that!" You said strongly with confidence. "That's a terrible thing to do to a person! I wont do any of those things, so please don't worry around me."

Nagito smiled.

"You are very kind. I appreciate that."

You smiled awkwardly at his response, your face turning a very slight shade of pink.

"Hey, not at all. Its no problem." You laughed nervously. "So, I've heard about everyone else on this island. What about you?"

Chuckling yet again then shifting around in his shackles to get into a more comfortable position, Nagito crossed his legs and sighed once more. He actually seemed short of breath and you wondered if he was okay.

"Well, there isn't really much to know about me." He said. "To be honest, I'm more interested on hearing about you. Tell me. What does the title of Ultimate Nerd hold? I'm honestly having a difficult time finding that out."

"O-oh..." you said in a surprised tone. "Alright then. Well...my title was given to me after one of the scouts for Hope's Peak noticed both of my talents."

Nagito's eyes widened and his eyebrows raised quite quickly.

"My title was either going to be Ultimate Art or Ultimate Computer Scientist, but they just ended up combining them into one once they realized how big of a nerd I actually am..."

You spoke awkwardly and laughed nervously after finishing your sentence. You were never really accepted by other people just because of your unusual interests and you would never fit in with the other girls, often getting picked on by them and their douchey boyfriends. Being called the "Ultimate Nerd" just made the situation a lot worse.

"Amazing!" Nagito exclaimed, breaking you out of your depressing flashback. "I've never heard of a student who has been scouted for two talents! You must be really great at what you do!"

You just smiled blushing a little at the reaction, thankful he didn't laugh at you.

"To be honest..." you started, your voice low and deep in thought. "I don't really think I'm all that good at what I do..."

Nagito pouted a little and looked at you like you were crazy.

"Please don't be that way. If you were no good at what you did, then you wouldn't be going to Hope's Peak!"

He looked up at you with a cheerful expression that put you somewhat at ease.

"Besides, if you really are no good, then just look at me! I'm absolute trash. Pure garbage! Yet my luck got me to the school I admire so much!" Nagito just continued smiling, it almost seeming like he was holding something back at the same time. "And even if you are just another lowly, talentless human being, at least you have another person who is even more lowly." he finished as he motioned his last self deprecating comment towards himself.

In all honesty, you knew he was trying to be supportive and kind with his last statement, but it didn't really help. You shrugged it aside though knowing his heart was in the right place.

"Thank you. I really appreciate your kindness."

Nagito's face lit up at your praise and he nodded as to say "no problem" or "you're welcome." As you went to open your mouth to speak, the sounds from the monitor in the large room interrupted you.

*ding dong, bing bong*

Just as it did in the morning, the monitor flipped on presenting Monokuma once again back in his throne.

"Ahem! Hope's Peak Academy's School Trip Executive Committee has an announcement to make..."

You heard Nagito sigh hard and shuffle around a bit so he could watch the screen as well.

"It is now 10:00 p.m. Please return to your rooms and relax. Let the sound of the ocean gently rock you to sleep. Now then, sweet dreams everyone. Good niiiiight..."

Then, the screen went black again.

"Oh. So I guess theres a morning and nighttime announcement?" You thought aloud.

Nagito nodded.

"I didn't realize how late it was."

"You should get going (Y/N)." Nagito said looking back at you. "I don't want to keep you from sleeping with my petty questions."

"Hey, don't worry." You said trying to make him feel better about himself as you got yourself up off of the floor. "You're not keeping me from sleeping at all. It is getting kinda late though, so I will have to go back. It was nice meeting and talking with you. I hope they release you from this cramped up room soon.

He smiled and laughed a little.

"As do I. Goodnight."

You made your way over to the door and waved goodbye as you left the room. Closing the door, you sighed heavily and turned around only to be greeted with another friendly face.

"CONGRATS (Y/N)!"

"OH MY GOD!" You screamed in shock as your hands made their way to the knife in your pocket.

Though, gaining sight of what was happening and who was in front of you, you were happy to notice that it was just Monomi. Taking a breath of relief, you asked Monomi what was wrong and why she was congratulating you.

"You have obtained the first of your hope fragments with all of the students! Good job!"

You smiled awkwardly at her.

"Thanks...?...Oh yeah! I almost forgot!"

Monomi tilted her confusion.

"I just wanted to say thank you so much for everything you have done for me so far! I really appreciate it!"

Monomi's face lit up with happiness instantly.

"I'm glad I can be of some help! Would you like me to walk you back to your cottage?" She asked happily

"No, that's alright. I think I am getting used to this place a bit! Thank you!" you replied with a thumbs up and a huge smile.

"No problem! Goodnight!"

And just like that, Monomi vanished. As you walked out of the old building, you took a look at your e-handbook, studying all of its features, reading the rules, learning the details about how you use your map, look at your report card, and hey, you were even able to grow a little pet of your own with all of the steps you take each day! The technology fascinated you and you thought about how it worked and each function it had on it. So interesting. You got home, took your backpack off, got changed and ready for bed, and sat down at your desk to examine the handbook.

"I wonder how I can tinker with it."
