The next day, which was Saturday, Jane walked to Lexington Stables even though it wasn't the day she had riding lessons. She had riding lessons on Friday. When Jane got to the stables the first person she saw was Jen. "I'm glad to see you here, Jane," she said. Jane said, "I'm going to come here every day. When I am a more experienced rider I'll ride Parriet here." Jen said, "You can ride Parriet here already. Just keep her at a walk. And since you're coming here every day Ann could give you a free riding lesson every day. Is that okay?" (No, that isn't exactly how it works...) "Yes!" said Jane "I'll bring Parriet over right now!"

After Jane brought Parriet she met everybody. Jen said, "We have a saddle that was made for Parriet. We could only get a racing saddle. You'll have to lengthen your stirrups every time you ride." (Umm... again, not how it works. Logic was apparently not working for third grade me.) "I already have a saddle," said Jane. "Okay," said Jen. Jane went into the barn. She saw three kids tacking up their horses in the aisle. She was pretty sure it was against the rules. "No tacking up in the aisle! I've told you a hundred times!" said Jen. Suddenly a voice behind them said, "Those kids are Tanya, Lia, and Peg. The meanest kids here." (Nooo, not a cliché!) Jane turned around. Standing behind her was her friend Alice. "Jane!" Alice exclaimed. "Hi Alice!" said Jane. "Seems like you two already know each other" said Ann, who was coming down the hall.

Ann taught Jane how to walk, trot, canter, gallop, and jump. She also taught Jane some dressage moves. And Alice was forever helping Jane when things went wrong. (Aw, such a nice friend.) Soon Jane became a better rider than the others! (Mary Sue character much?) One day, Jane was galloping Parriet and she saw a little boy. His mom was signing him up for riding lessons. "Are you the girl who rides best?" he asked. Jane nodded. "I'm Jane," she said. The boy said, "I'm Max and I bet you're good enough to ride in the Kentucky Derby." Then, for the first time ever, she seriously thought about riding in the Triple Crown.
