Chapter 2: Robin

This is the last chapter I wrote of the story. After it, I started a third chapter called "The Search Party," but I only got as far as the title. You can tell this chapter was written later. Some parts of it, I think, were written only a few years ago.

Chapter 2

Robin

Just before the storm set in, Robin learned how to stand. He knew he should find shelter. He looked straight ahead. There was a forest. That wouldn’t do. He looked to his left. A field. That wouldn’t offer much shelter either. He looked behind him. More grass. Uh-uh. He looked to his right. There was a light in the woods. Robin walked closer to see what it was. It was coming from a little structure that looked like it was made of logs. Robin began a wobbly walk towards the front door.

Mmm… What was that lovely smell coming from inside the structure? Whatever it was, it sure smelled delicious. Tempted by the smell, Robin stepped on the welcome mat. What was the rectangle sticking out of the thing? Robin pressed it with his nose. To his surprise, it played music! He pressed it again. And again and again. Then, a man opened the door!

Wow! The smell got stronger! Robin pushed past the man and skidded into the room where the smell was strongest. A woman was taking circular shaped objects out of a box shaped thing.

Before she noticed Robin, the woman had been saying, “ Oh, great. The one time visitors come to the house they come on movie night! I was planning on baking cookies and watching our favorite movie so Edward and I can spend some time together! Alone! I didn’t want some stranger messing up our night!”

Right before she noticed Robin, the woman started to cry. Her sobbing stopped abruptly when she saw him.

“Aah! The visitor is a horse! A horse, I tell you! Edwaaard!” the woman screamed as she dropped her cookies and ran out of the room Luckily, the cookies stayed in the pan and did not fall out. Those round things are cookies! I wonder what they taste like. Robin thought. He sniffed one and began to eat. As he was eating, the woman came back with her husband.

“Esmerelda, what are you talking about? I don’t see a horse here!” the man was saying. (Edward, it’s right in front of your face. You see, but do not observe. How do you not see a horse in your kitchen?)

“Edward, it’s-( gasp ) eating my cookies!”

“It’s all right. He’s only a little one. Do you want to leave a baby in that monstrous storm out there?” said Edward.

“Oh, all right. We can keep him, but only until we find his home. I bet this will never feel comfortable. I refuse to bond with him!” Esmerelda said. Edward chuckled. Robin whinnied as if to say,
         “Thank you!”

Esmerelda was wrong when she said that she wouldn’t bond with Robin. About two hours later, when she had baked another batch of cookies, she was sitting on the floor petting him while watching a movie with Edward. The visitor hadn’t “ruined” her night.

After the movie the people put him to bed. They had arranged a neat little pile of blankets for him. Once they thought he had gone to sleep, Robin heard them talking about something he didn’t quite understand.

“What will we do with him now, Edward? We can’t just keep him forever!” said Esmerelda.

“Well, he’s probably a wild horse,” Edward replied.

“That doesn’t help us at all!” Esmerelda was wailing now. “It just makes it harder for us to find his home!”

“It’ll be okay,” Edward reassured her. “It’ll be okay.”

Robin couldn’t hear them talking anymore, so he figured they had gone to bed. He was extremely sleepy and it was a humongous (Is humongous even a word?) effort just to keep his eyes open. He lay down his head with a sigh and went to sleep.

This is the end of my first old story! So, what do you think?
