Anybody here remember Squilliam Fancyson? I know he hasn't made a proper appearance in a while, but I think that if he were to reappear, it would look like this:

Something happened to Squilliam that caused him to lose his fortune and/or reputation. Maybe his narcissism led him to make a foolish decision (y'know, pride before a fall), or somebody started a scandalous rumor about him. Perhaps he tried to write a fantasy novel series about himself, but the series failed because critics described the books as "self-centered, horribly written, and boring."

Alternatively, Squilliam might've had a museum built to showcase his awards, music, and portraits of himself and his childhood, and treasures from his quests, among other things. This would backfire because a) the museum was too boring to garner many guests, and b) Squilliam's "side to the stories" would be all lies and slander (mostly towards Squidward), resulting in several lawsuits.
