Background: When they were young, Xena and Sebastian dreamt of traveling the world, him being a bard that shared his love of music with others, and Xena trying to learn magic. One night when they were 18, they had set up camp in a forest when they were ransacked by a guild called the Hatchet Men, who were robbing them of their supplies and threatening to hurt Xena. Sebastian managed to break free to try and save her but ended up killed by the Hatchet Men's leader. That same night, Xena received her magic abilities as a sorceress and was able to escape from them. Ever since then, Xena learned to study and control her new abilities for the day she would meet the Hatchet Men again so that she could finally get revenge for her brother's death.
