Background:

When he was young, Erik had a curse placed on him that made all that looked upon him see a hideous face that could only be broken by true love's kiss. His family abandoned him. Erik found an old opera house to live under and took to wearing a mask to hide his face. Erik was gifted was the talent of music but no one would listen to him. One day, he met the love of his life; a young woman by the name of Christine Daae. Erik taught her his ways of music and they slowly began to fall in love. When she was noticed, she quickly rose to stardom and attracted the attention of a young man by the name of Raoul. He proposed to Christine which left her with a dilemma; should she chose the man she loved or the man who would give her the life she had dreamed of since she was a child? Christine chose Raoul over Erik, leaving him heartbroken. She gave him one final kiss which broke his curse.

In Storybrooke, he lives by the name of William Leroux as a music teacher and plays the piano for the occasional performance pieces.
