Camila is the result of the night Poseidon claimed Medusa for his own selfish needs when she was a mortal. After Camila was born, Medusa sent her away to be raised in the human world. When she learned of her mother's fate, she grew to hate the gods that had forsaken her, especially Athena who was the one that cursed Medusa to be a gorgon. She also hated the mortal 'heroes' that were sent to slay Medusa. Camila swore vengeance on them and joined the Half Blood Camp to destroy them from the inside out.
