Backstory: Riley was born in Motostoke and grew up there, she spent most of the time in her grandfathers gym when he didn't have challengers. She used to help take care of all of the fire gym Pokemon in the gym by giving them food, brushing them, cleaning them and playing with them to give them exercise. At a young age Kabu had told her that when she got older he wanted her to take over the gym when he retired, since she was young she was happy about that. When she got a little older she told her grandfather she wanted to find what she wanted to do instead of becoming the next leader and he understood that.

• Riley first met Bede when he bumped into her at the stadium on the day of the champion cup opening ceremony. He blamed her and they got into a small argument, after that day they kept seeing each other on their journey. Instead or arguing Riley started to tease him and he didn't like that at all. When he became the gym leader of Ballonlea and Opal mellowed him down a little he started to feel comfortable around Riley even if he didn't show it. When they argued it was more like playful argument. They became a couple after a while and when Riley became the gym leader of Motostoke he gave her some pointers which she deeply appreciated.

• Riley at first she was going to get Scorbunny because of her love of fire types but after she met Sobble she just fell in love and picked him.

• Kabu wants her to take over the gym after her journey but Riley said she wanted to think of other options. Even after everything she said she does become one of the Motostoke gym leaders pretty much immediately after the main story.
