Part 16

Myungsoo POV

The past six months seemed to pass slower than ever. Not a day went by without the torment of seeing the image of Sunmi leaving in the taxi. Every night I dreamt of her and found myself crying when I woke and found that she wasn't by my side. I thought I would be able to forget her when the boss said that we would be having another would tour, but that only made me miss her more.

When we returned to Korea, the guys and I went to Ahjumma's chicken place to unwind. When we walked in, I was immediately reminded of Sunmi. It was as though she was going to appear and bring us our drinks. Ahjumma came over to greet us and I almost broke down in tears remembering how she always greeted Sunmi.

"Hi Ahjumma!" Dongwoo smiled. "How has everything been?"

"The same" she smiled as she always did. She looked through our group and her smile flickered.

        "Is something wrong?" Sunggyu asked.

"No, it's nothing" she waved her hands.

Woohyun wrapped his arms around her and asked "What is it? Tell us!" Then he started using his aegyo.

Ahjumma never could deny his aegyo. "Okay!" she said as she pushed him off her. "I was just hoping to see Sunmi with you. It's been a while since I last saw her and I'm worried."

        "Why?" Sunggyu asked.

Ahjumma looked around nervously. "She just didn't seem like herself. I'm worried something may have happened to her."

"When was the last time you saw her?" I asked.

"Before you guys left on tour" she replied.

She's hasn't been here for six months? Why? She loved Ahjumma! Why would she suddenly disappear like that?

About a week after we had returned, the boss told us that we had been invited to an event for the Park Leasing Company.

"Do I have to go?" I asked.

"You were invited because you are a tenant in one of their buildings, Myungsoo. It wouldn't be right if the others went without you. Besides, this would be a good opportunity to make connections with them. We might be able to find an apartment for the other guys closer to the studio as well."

I sighed. The last thing I wanted to do was attend some company event, but in the end I agreed to go.

The guys picked me up at my apartment and we all rode in the van to the event. Thankfully, there weren't too many reporters so we didn't have to pose for pictures.

Honestly, I found the event kind of boring. I wasn't even paying attention until the announcer started to make his speech.

"First, I want to thank all of you for coming this evening to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Park Leasing Company. What started as a small apartment rental and leasing company has grown into one of the top in the country. All thanks to the effort of our company's CEO Park Sungmin."

The entire room began clapping as a spotlight focused on a gentleman who was standing in the center of the room with what looked like his wife and daughter. I really wasn't interested and decided to go to the refreshment table and grab another glass of champagne.

The announcer called the man on stage to give a speech and I sighed more. This has got to be one of the most boring events I have ever been to. I wasn't even paying attention to his speech anymore.

The guys came over and stood beside me to make sure I didn't drink too much. As I was working on my second glass, I heard the man say. "We would not be where we are today, if not for my daughter Sunmi."

I chocked on my drink and looked where his daughter was standing. Could it really be her?

The light focused on her and as she turned to face the crowd, I froze. "Sun...mi" I uttered in shock. The guys looked and were shocked as well.

"Sunmi, please come up here" her father said and she smiled as she obeyed. "Not only is today a celebration for our company's anniversary, but to celebrate your promotion."

Sunmi POV

Promotion? What is he talking about?

"Today, on the 20th anniversary of our company, I'd like to announce that starting tomorrow Park Sunmi will be promoted to company President."

        My eyes widened in shock.

My father walked over to me and gave me a hug. "You've done well."

"Thank you Dad" I hugged him back.

The audience was all staring at me, waiting for me to make a speech of my own. Because I didn't know anything about this, I was completely unprepared. I walked over to the microphone nervously and bowed.

"Hello, my name is Park Sunmi. I would like to thank you all for coming out this evening." I took a deep calming breath and continued. "In the six months since I started working at the company, there have been many changes and none of them would have been possible if not for all the people here today. It is because of you that we have been able to change for the better, so tonight is not just a celebration for my father and me, but for all of you as well. Thank you and I hope you all have a pleasant evening."

Myungsoo POV

She took a step away from the podium and bowed once more.

"It looks like she has lost some weight" Sunggyu commented.

He was right. She looked much thinner than I last remembered.

She walked off the stage with her father and began mingling with the guests. Whenever I saw her smile at someone, I felt a pang in my chest. She obviously seemed to have moved on and forgot about me. The last thing I wanted now, was to come face to face with her, but she approached our boss and we knew that we should be by his side. I downed the champagne that was in my glass and followed behind the guys.

Sunmi POV

After making my speech, my father and I got off the stage and  began mingling with our guests. Mrs. Shin introduced me to her son. I think she was hoping that we would hit it off, but he really wasn't that interesting. Mr. Lee also introduced his son, but he just wanted a job at the company.

Mingling with guests really was the worst part of the evening, but I knew that this was something I had to do as the newly named President of the company. I walked up to someone I didn't recognize and he smiled at me.

"Hello" I smiled as I held out my hand.

"Hello" he said as he reached into his pocket and produced a business card. "I'm Lee Jungyeop, president of Woollim Entertainment."

I accepted the card he gave me, produced one of my own and handed it to him. "Park Sunmi" I said with a smile.

"I just want to thank you for taking such good care of my artist."

His artist? What was the name of his company again? W....W.....Woollim?

        "Ah, here they are!"

I looked up and saw all the members of Infinite standing before me smiling. "Hello, we are Infinite" they all chorused and I nearly froze.

Regaining my composure, I smiled the best I could and said "Park Sunmi, it's a pleasure to meet you all."
