Part 15
Sunmi POV
When I saw the members of Infinite just staring at me, I panicked. I grabbed my bag and threw it in the cab and quickly got in after. I told the driver where to go and he quickly pulled away. I tried not to cry, but the tears fell anyways.
When I arrived at home, my mother greeted me with a hug. "Are you alright dear?" she asked.
"I'm fine" I sighed.
"I was just about to grab some lunch" she smiled. "Are you hungry?"
"No, I'm not hungry right now" I replied. "Actually I'm a little tired. I'm going to put my things away and take a nap."
"Okay" she smiled as she walked back to the kitchen.
I climbed the stairs and went to my room. Then I threw my suitcase in the corner by my closet and collapsed on my bed. I must have been more exhausted then I thought, because the next thing I know my mother was waking me up.
"Sunmi, wake up. Your father is home."
I rubbed my eyes and looked at the clock. Where had the day gone? I got up and tidied myself before going downstairs to greet my father.
"Welcome home Dad!" I smiled as I gave him a hug.
"Dinner is ready!" my mother called from the dining room.
I hooked my arm around my father's and we walked to the table. My mother walked out of the kitchen with three bowls of rice and placed them on the table as we sat down.
"Looks great!" I smiled. Honestly, I wasn't in the mood to eat, but I knew that I had to. I couldn't let my emotions control me like this.
We all started eating and my father asked "What made you decide to come home?"
I swallowed the bite of food I had just placed in my mouth and took a deep breath before looking at him and saying "I think it's time for me to come and work in the office."
"What about your job at the restaurant?" my mother asked.
"I quit this afternoon" I replied. "I won't have time to work there anymore if I am going to work at the office."
"Are you sure about this?" my father asked.
"Dad" I looked at him seriously. "We both know that if we don't make some drastic changes in the way things are managed, then we are going to loose everything."
He looked me over and could tell that I was taking this very seriously.
Truth be told, this was my plan from the very beginning. I had planned on living in the apartment for five years while learning the ins and outs of the business. All the while, trying out different methods and testing new policies that would become the foundation for the reforms I planned to implement when I started working for the company. Unfortunately, the situation with Myungsoo made me join the company much earlier than planned. Luckily, the policies and methods that I had been using for the past two and a half years had proved effective in stabilizing the apartment building I had been managing.
"Very well" my father said. "If that is what you have decided, then I have no objections. You can start working in the office starting tomorrow."
"Thank you Dad" I smiled and then returned to eating absentmindedly.
NO ONE POV
Her mother watched as she ate and noticed that she was eating a side dish that she normally didn't because it was too spicy for her. She watched her daughter's reaction and noticed that it didn't even phase her.
"Are you alright dear?" she asked.
"I'm fine" Sunmi replied. "Why?"
"Nothing" her mother smiled nervously. "How's the food?"
"Delicious!" Sunmi gave a fake smile. Then she looked down at her bowl and noticed that she had eaten most of her rice. Content that she had eaten enough food, she excused herself from the table.
Her mother turned to her father and said "Something is wrong with Sunmi."
"I know" he replied.
"You do?"
"Yes" he continued to eat.
"What happened?"
"I don't know and I'm not going to question her about it either. She will tell us when the time is right."
"And what if she doesn't?"
"Then we will just have to trust her judgment."
Her mother nodded and they finished eating before retiring for the night.
Sunmi POV
The next morning, I woke up early and dressed for work. My father brought me to the company and introduced me to the staff that I would be working with. Many of them seemed nervous to be working with the CEO's daughter, but I quickly set their minds to ease once my father left the room.
My father had put together a great team for me and we quickly got to work on writing up the new policies and procedures that we needed to implement in order to get the company back on track.
After weeks of preparing, we presented the finished product to the board for approval. I was nervous to stand in front of so many other managers and department heads, but I took a deep breath and gathered all my courage to say what needed to be said. There were many objections, but in the end I was able to convince them that this is what needed to be done.
Over the next few months, the policies and procedures were implemented in all of our apartment buildings. Many of the tenants did not like the sudden change and terminated their leases, but we had expected that. Also, we had to evict a number of other trouble makers which was expected as well.
Once the tenants got used to the new policies, things started to get better. We managed to lower the rental prices and the cost of maintaining the buildings, all the while seeing an increase in our profits.
It was amazing how much changed in the six months since I started working at the company. My father started piling on more work and I was more than happy to take it. I would rather focus on work, because if I didn't I would find myself crying again.
