Part 14

NO ONE POV

Chaerin grabbed her pad and walked out to greet Sunmi's table. "Hello, My name is Chaerin and I will be taking care of you today."

        "Where is Sunmi?" Sunggyu asked.

"I'm afraid that she wasn't feeling well and has gone home" Chaerin replied politely. "May I take your order?"

Sunggyu cursed under his breath. He knew something happened between Myungsoo and her, but he wasn't talking. He was hoping that Sunmi could tell him so that he address the situation, but it looks like she was trying to avoid them as well.

They ordered some food and chatted amongst themselves. As they were leaving, Sunggyu approached the owner. "Could you please give this to Sunmi when she returns to work?" he said as he held out a piece of paper.

"I'm afraid that won't be possible."

        "Why?" Sunggyu asked confused.

"Sunmi no longer works here. She turned in her resignation today."

"What?" both Sunggyu and Chaerin said together in shock.

"Did she really quit?" Chaerin ran over for confirmation.

Her boss looked at her and said "Yes." Then she turned and walked away.

"Excuse me, but could we talk for a moment?" Sunggyu asked Chaerin.

Chaerin looked at him and said "I'm not sure why, but okay." They walked over to a booth and sat down. "How can I help you?" she asked.

        "You're friends with Sunmi, right?"

"Yes" Chaerin replied. "We're best friends."

"Do have any idea what happened?" Sunggyu desperately asked.

Chaerin sighed "No, I don't. She hasn't told me anything yet."

Sunggyu was lost. He wanted any information he could get, but it looked like she didn't even open up to her best friend. "Do you know anything?" he asked, hoping for some small clue.

Chaerin looked up at him and saw that he was really worried about something. She wondered if he was the guy Sunmi was in love with.

"I'm not sure it's my place to say. She's my best friend and I wouldn't want to tell you something I shouldn't have."

"I understand" Sunggyu dropped his head in defeat.

"If you don't mind me asking" Chaerin gathered her courage. "How do you know Sunmi?"

Sunggyu looked at her and could tell she was worried about her friend. He smiled a little and said "Myungsoo recently moved into the same building as her. Because of that, we all have become friends with her."

"Ah" Chaerin nodded. "She did mention that one of you lived there."

Chaerin looked at the guys sitting before her and felt she could trust them. "Sunmi was late for work this morning. It's the first time she has ever been late. It looked like she had been crying all night. When I asked her about it, she said that she had finally fallen in love."

"Did she say with who?" Sunggyu asked eagerly.

I shook my head "No. Only that she had fallen in love. The fact that this was the first time I've ever seen her cry, leads me to believe that he rejected her."

"What do you mean? She's never cried before?"

"It's not that she's never cried. She's just never cried when there has been a guy involved. Even if they had been dating for years and he broke up with her, she would never break down and cry. I always thought it was odd, but now that I've seen her like this, I know that she must have really loved the guy. I just wish I knew who he was so that I could punch him."

Sunggyu looked at the guys and they all thought the same thing. It had to be Myungsoo. They all thought that he liked her, so why would he reject her? Why was he acting like he despised her? What happened between them?

Although some of their questions had been answered, they were now more confused then ever.

Sunmi POV

I returned to my apartment and packed a bag of clothes. Then I took one last look at my apartment before walking out the door. When I got to the main lobby, I approached the security desk and spoke with the chief of security for the building.

"For the time being, my apartment will be empty."

        "Is something wrong?" he asked.

        "No" I lied.

"Okay, we will make sure to keep an eye on the apartment for you."

        "Thank you" I smiled.

As I was leaving the building, I received a call from my father. "Hi Dad" I tried to sound cheerful.

"What is going on?" he asked.

"What do you mean?" I was confused.

"I have the tenant from apartment 602 on the other line. He said that he wants to terminate his lease. What happened?"

"I'm sorry, Dad. I can't explain. Please just tell him that you are aware of the situation, that the tenant in 601 has already submitted a request for termination of their lease and that they will be gone by the end of the day."

"I'm not sure I understand what you are saying, but I'll do what you've asked." He paused for a moment before asking "Is everything alright?" sensing that there was something I wasn't saying.

"I'll be fine" I lied. "I was thinking of moving back home for the time being. Is that okay?"

"Of course" he happily replied. "I'll see you when I get home."

"Thanks Dad!" I smiled as I tried not to cry.

We both hung up and I walked over to the street to grab a taxi. I had managed to flag one down and was about to get in when I heard Sunggyu call my name.

I stopped, turned to look at him and froze. He was with all the other members, including Myungsoo.

Myungsoo POV

While walking back to my apartment from the practice studio, I decided to call the leasing agency to see if I could terminate my lease. Although the apartment was great, I didn't want to have to face Sunmi again.

The owner put me on hold and I waited for his response. When he came back, he said that he was just made aware of the situation and that I would not have to leave. He said that Sunmi had already terminated her lease and would be leaving the apartment before the day was out.

As I was trying to comprehend what he had said, I heard Sunggyu yell "Sunmi!"

I turned to look where he was calling and was shocked to see her standing at the road with a suitcase about to get into a cab. What is going on? Is she really leaving?

I wanted to call out to her, but my voice failed me.

We all just stared at her as she grabbed her bag, threw it in the cab and then got in as well. As the cab was pulling away, the guys all ran to the road hoping that she would come back, but she didn't.

I couldn't believe that she left just like that. She didn't even say goodbye. As I stood there staring at the spot she was just standing, tears started to fall from my eyes.

Why am I such a fool? I should have told her to stay! Why couldn't I be honest with myself and just admit that I was in love with her? Why couldn't I have just asked her to be mine and mine alone?

Watching her leave like that hurt me more than I thought it would. I can't believe I just lost the girl I loved, because I was too chicken to take the risk and trust her feelings for me were true.

The guys walked back over to me and tried to comfort me, but all I could do was cry.

"I'm such an idiot!" I cursed at myself.
