Chapter 1: Just a Dream, NOT
I woke up suddenly breathing heavily. "Phew, it was only just a dream," I said, sitting up and rubbing my eyes. I got up and it felt like something was different, but I just shrugged it off and continued my way to the kitchen to get a drink. I got a cup got some water and then went back to bed.
The next morning
"Beep, beep, beep, beep!" I growled and sat up to turn the alarm off on my phone. I had to get ready for school. I sighed and sat up, rubbing my eyes yawning and stretching. I got up and started to get ready for school, but I felt something was different, very different. I stood up and looked behind me and saw a tail, which was gray with splotches of white and and pale orange, and I gasped. I didn't know what to say. I just stood there and stared and then i thought of something. I ran into the bathroom and looked in the mirror and I saw cat ears that I could move at will. I looked back at my tail and I saw that it was bristling. I looked back at the mirror. "Well, I probably shouldn't go to school today," I said. I went to my kitchen and poured myself a bowl of cereal and sat down to eat. I opened my mouth and took a bite of the cereal. As I was chewing I felt something else in my mouth. After I finished my bite I ran to the closest mirror and opened my mouth. My canines were like long predator teeth on the top and bottom. "Yeah, I definitely shouldn't go to school," I said, then I realized something. I don't even have school today. So I grabbed my phone and called my closest friend, Heather. "Hey Natalie, what's up?" She said. "Can you come over?" I asked. "Sure! I'll be right over," Heather said, and hung up.
Heather lived across from my own house and it was only a few minutes when I heard a knock. "Come in!" I called from the kitchen with a mouth full of cereal. I heard the door open and shut. "Where are you?" Heather asked. I took a deep breath and let it out. "In the kitchen!" I called back. "What shou..." She started. I turned to face her. "I love your costume! Where did you get it?!" She asked, grabbing my tail. "The tail is so flexible and soft!" She said looking at me. "It's so realistic!" She said. "A-actually they are real," I said, moving my tail out of her grasp and my ears back in uneasiness. Her mouth dropped open when my tail moved without anyone physically grabbing my tail and moving it. My ears were low with worry and my tail twitched. "Please don't tell anyone!" I pleaded. "W-when did this h-happen?" Heather asked. "I think sometime last night," I said, and she nodded. I finished my bowl cereal and put my bowl in the sink. "Do you want to go outside or anything?" I asked. "Let's go in the living room," She said. I nodded and walked into the living room. "Where are your parents?" Heather asked. "They are at work, like always," I said. "Do you think you will be able to turn into a cat?" She asked. "I haven't even thought of that, maybe I can!" I said, getting a little excited. "You should try it!" Heather exclaimed. "I don't know how," I said. Heather looked thoughtful. "Try to think about being a cat," She said excitedly "Okay, I'll try," I said. I thought of being a cat, but it didn't work, so I tried to see if I could find my cats presence in my head and I found something, making my eyes snap open. "It didn't work," Heather said, looking a little downcast. "I know it didn't work, but I searched my head for a presence an-" I was saying, until I was interrupted by a scream that you would expect from a fan girl meeting her favorite band in person for the first time. "OH MY GOSH! DID YOU SEE ANYTHING?!" Heather screamed. "First of all, STOP screaming and calm down! And no, I didn't see anything but something was there!" I said getting excited. "Well if it's there then can you try to turn into it again?" Heather asked. I shook my head. "I don't think that it is ready to come out yet. It was hiding in the back of my mind, like it didn't want to come out yet," I explained. "Oh, okay." She said
"Do you want to play something?" I asked. "Sure," Heather said, getting up and walking over to the front of the living room and grabbing something. I got up myself to find something to do too. "Think fast!" Heather yelled. I turned around just in time to see a ball flying straight at my face. I was never good at catching things, but I caught the ball well before it even got dangerously close to my face. "You caught it!" Heather yelled excitedly. "Wow, I did catch it!" I said surprised. "Maybe you've got cat-like reflexes with your ears and tail," Heather said. "Maybe," I agreed. "Can we play a game on the Wii or something?" Heather asked. I nodded in agreement and we chose a game and started to play.
"Ha, I beat you!" I said. "How are you not out of breath?" Heather asked, panting. "I don't know. Maybe it is because cats are more agile and athletic than people," I guessed. "I'm gonna go to get a drink," Heather said, walking into the kitchen, me following. "Much better," Heather sighed. "Do you want to continue playing Just Dance or play something else?" I asked. "Let's play Mario Cart," Heather said. I nodded and put the game in and we played for a while.
The next thing I knew was someone was pulling into my driveway. "Turn off the T.V., someone is here!" I whispered loudly. "What, are you sure that isn't one of your parents?" Heather asked, whispering. "No, they are at the back door and my parents are at work, now let's go!" I whispered. We got up and ran quietly to my room. "Hide!" I whispered. She hid and I put a hat over my ears and put my tail in my shirt. I heard the door open and people walking into our house. I hurried and found a hiding place right before my bedroom door opened. I heard them rummaging through my room and one of them spoke. "Hey, I found someone!" A man yelled, followed by running footsteps. "Hey, let me go!" Heather yelled. I growled. "Ouch! Let me go! That hurts!" Heather yelled. I growled even louder and something changed.
