Chapter 3

The battle between Athena and Posidon was yet to come to an end. Athena grew more vile and evil towards me. I couldn't put my finger on why she was being so vile but I knew I was not safe. I brushed aside the feeling and went about my regular duties in the temple. Then on that faithful day I heard it. The reason my role model was vile to me. A group of women stood in a corner and gossiped in hushed tones. One rose her voice a little noticing me looking at them and said " Thank Zeus Medusa is alive. That evil Athena has grown more envious of her beauty and rumor has it that people say Athena's hair is not as beautiful as Medusa's."
Frozen to a spot I laughed thinking that the so called gods we worshiped and adored would be envious of us. Just then it struck me. Athena always looked at my face in disgust I often thought she looked at my face but I was wrong. It was my hair that caused the horrible looks.
I went to see my parents a few days later on Athena's permission. My mother was pleased to see me. Unfortunately she heard about Athena's jealousy and tried to stop me from going back to her. I told her it was my dream to be a priestess in Athena's temple and I left after a very silent dinner. My sisters wept knowing I was mortal and in Athena's black books. As I grew into my late twenties , men flocked around Athena's temple just to sneak a glance at me saying I was more beautiful than the goddess Athena. This just made Athena more vile towards me and sure enough she took it out on Posidon since their fight was yet to be over. Apparently , Athena had taken something of value from Posidon. The waters in the land were troubled and very hard to fetch from. In all this tussle, I found a little river that remained calm and peaceful. It was my place of solace.
