Chapter One: A Beginning Of Sorts
Hey guys! I've been wanting to do this book for a long time and now it's finally happening! Let me know what you guys think of it and if you want to see more books like this in the future. Well, without further ado, enjoy! WARING(S): Bullying, homophobia, verbal abuse and child abuse. If you have experienced any of these things I suggest you leave as this may be triggering for you. Also the first few chapters will be a sort of pretext to understanding the story and there will also be flashbacks throughout the book. Ok, now let's get into the story.

Alfred was floating.
He looked out at the endless, black void that surrounded him and sighed. It used to be whenever he slept, he used to dream of the superheroes and a world where good triumphed over evil.
It was a nice enough dream however as Alfred grew older and the cruel, ugly world introduced itself to him, those dreams faded. They faded until there was nothing but this black void. It was actually rather depressing when you think about it.
Alfred moved his arm up but it seemed that everything was in slow motion in the void. Alfred turned his head as fast as the void would allow him to, looking around to see if anything had changed since the last time he had slept. Nothing did change. It was the same as last night and the night before that and the night before that and so forth.
The American had been stuck in this endless void as far as his recent memory could recall. Of course, he wasn't always stuck in the void. It was only when he fell asleep.
Alfred knew there had to be a time before the void but it was so far way and distant from him that he just couldn't reach or remember it. He may not have been able to remember it well but he knew it was a million times better than the void that now occupied his mind.
Alfred could never be sure how much time he would spend in the void. There weren't exactly any clocks to keep track of time so Alfred just allowed himself to float around aimlessly. He felt a strange peace that he would never be able to feel in his everyday life.
*BEEP**BEEP*
But like all good things, that peace must come to an end. Sleepily, Alfred reached for the beeping alarm clock that sat innocently on his bedside table and slammed his fist down on the snooze button. The beeping stopped causing Alfred to sigh in relief at the lack of noise.
Sometimes he just preferred the silence even though he's the one who usually starts and finishes conversations with his two friends. Silence in the real world was good but nothing compared to the silence and peace that the void provided for him.
Alfred snuck a peek at his alarm clock noting that he had thirty minutes before school started. Alfred slowly sat up and stretched before slowly getting out of the small bed. The American ran a small, dainty hand through his sunny blonde hair trying to subdue his bed head. He managed to smooth down most of his hair but his cowlick remained as stubborn as usual.
Alfred blinked a couple of times trying to get the sleepiness out of his sky blue eyes. It didn't work that well but the blonde didn't have to time to focus on that. He had to get ready for another day of school (read: hell). Still slightly sleepy, Alfred walked out of his room and towards the bathroom that was just a few doors down.
After he did his business like using the bathroom, taking a shower, brushing his hair, etc. the young blonde noticed how quiet the house was. Normally at this time his father would have at the very least thrown an insult or two his way, but there was nothing.
Just..nothing.
When the American doesn't hear the telltale signs of his father snoring or the TV running, he deducted that his dad had already left for work. To Alfred, that was a sign from God. A sign that today could be moderately decent. However Alfred knows better than to get his hopes up.
Noting that a significant amount of time had passed since he first woke up Alfred hurriedly finished getting ready. He threw on an old, baggy sweatshirt that was slowly deteriorating with time. The blue eyed teen also put on an old pair of jeans that almost barely fit him.
As Alfred looked at himself in the mirror he noted that the outfit wasn't the best but it would have to do.
Quickly, the teenager grabbed his backpack and made his way to the front door. Normally one would eat breakfast in the morning though Alfred himself couldn't. It's not that he didn't want to, on the contrary, he was starving. However his dad keeps all the food locked up and keeps the key on his person so no breakfast for Alfred.
As Alfred walked in the opposite direction of the kitchen, he felt his stomach growl in protest. It just made him feel slightly sad knowing that he would have to ask one of his friends for some food again. Maybe he wouldn't even do that. After all they had already done so much for him so asking for more sounded selfish to him.
A honk woke the American from his thoughts. Normally loud noises would have startled the younger but not this noise. No, this noise meant a sort of beacon of friendship to Alfred. The noise was the horn on his friend Hercules' pickup truck.
Alfred exited the house smiling slightly as he caught sight of his two and only friends. Gal was looking out the window at him and she gave him a soft smile. Alfred walked towards the pickup truck and got in, closing the door behind him.
"Good morning, Alfred!" Gal exclaimed cheerful at such an ungodly hour. Her dark brown hair cascaded down from her head and onto her shoulders. Her amber eyes gleamed at him and he smiled. "Good morning, you guys." He replied softly. He was sat in the front seat while Hercules was sitting in the driver's seat and Gal had the back all to herself.
"Mornin'.." Hercules mumbled sleepily. To anyone else it would have looked like the Greek didn't get any sleep but his two friends knew better. In fact, most of Hercules daily life consisted of random sleeping. Alfred thinks that Hercules may have narcolepsy or something similar to it. However he's never been properly diagnosed so what he really has is up for speculation.
"So, are you guys ready for today?" Alfred asked them. Gal sighed her sunny disposition fading slightly.
"No," She answered simply. Hercules nodded in agreement with her very small statement. Life had been hell for them for the past couple of years and it didn't seem like it would change soon.
It was sad, but also a fact of life. It was something they all knew probably wouldn't change until high school was long over for them. And since they were all freshmen that wouldn't be for at least three more years.
Anyone else would refuse the situation or try to come up with a solution like moving schools or just dropping out altogether. However they all had their eyes on the bigger picture.
They knew if they dropped out, then their futures would be shot. And their parents either couldn't or wouldn't move them to different schools. So, they had to learn to do the most basic thing a human could do.
Adapt and survive or put up a fight to it and die.
They obviously prefered the first option.
Hercules didn't say anything as he started driving down the road towards their school. No one spoke for the rest of the drive.
