Chapter Twenty-Nine
Three weeks later…
“No, Scott!, I can’t do this!” I protested as Scott tried to bring me out onto the ice pound and I felt myself slip here and there on my rolling skates. He practically had to hold me up as he brought me onto the pond cause I can’t skate.
“It’s going to be alright.” He said. “I promise, just try to stand up on yourself.” he said as he started to let go of me and I clung to his shirt.
“No! Don’t let go of me!” I quickly told him.
He chuckled and peeled me off him, “Abby, babe, your going to be fine. Just stand up, you can do it.”
I made an ‘ehh’ sound as he fully got me off him and I was beginning to become off balance, but I held my arms up a little to steady myself. After a few more times, I regained my balance and was able to stand up.
I couldn’t help but sequel, “I did it! I did it—ahh!”, I screamed as my legs started to split and I fell down on my right side. Ugh, my hip going to have one bruise now.
Colleen rolled up to me, chuckling. “Don’t work, it took me a few times to get the hang of it. I was bruised up like a peach that night, but worth it.”
Scott helped me back up on my feet and now just held onto me now, realizing after the first fall, I’m going to have to practice more on my balance. I looked around at the other at how it look so easy and simple. Victoria was actually wearing blades, gliding across the pond so perfectly and naturally. It made me jealous.
I look like such an idiot.
I could just imagine Gabe snickering at me from the other side, but I made no attempt to make eye contact with him. I hate him with a passion. One thing was to go after me, but going after my little brother? God only knows what he meant by that.
But it was no way to make Scott hate me; he like forgives me about everything! I start fights with him and hit him—I even slapped twice! I kicked him out of my room God knows only how many times and I keep my distances the best I can. He just goes on and on though about he understand comes of the house I come from and that would actually just make me mad.
Jamie and Sophia were playing in the snow. From what Jamie tells us, they're friends right now, but all his brothers just rolled their eyes and snorted. Jamie hasn’t told her the family secret yet, but he says he just wants them to get to know each before he tells her. What that’s suppose to help? His best secret she should know is he’s a shape shifting werewolf!!
Scott turned around them, his back now facing me. He took my arms and wrapped it around his waist, “I’ll move, keep your legs bent a little, okay?”
I hesitated, but nodded, “Yeah.”.
He started to go slow at first, my feet shaking a little to keep me from falling. Every couple of moments he would go a little fast and I would just holding onto him tighter.
Suddenly we hit a crack in the ice and we tumbled over, me falling onto Scott’s back, his front pressed on the ice. Instead of groaning in pain, we laughed. He turned around and actually saw his nose a little red, telling me his was cold.
“You seem like your in a better mood.” he said, reaching up and pushed a strain of my hair behind my hair that fell from the beanie I was wearing.
Realizing I was, I frowned and rolled off him. “What do you mean? I’ll always in a good mood.” I said with emotion.
He propped himself up on his elbow and looked at me. “Abigail, I’m worried about you. Ever since that day your dad came over, you been so…distanced. Can you please tell me what’s wrong so I help you?”
I looked around the pond to see everyone watching us before I turned back to him. “I don’t want to talk about this with everyone watching.” I told him.
He stared at me for a second, then nodded. “Okay—” Scott was cut off by a ball of snow smashed into his face and his head snapped around to Jamie, baring his teeth and growled, “Jamie, what the fuck!?”
He doubled over, laughing. “You were looking pretty down, thought I’ll lighten you up!”
Scott quickly slipped his skates off and slid off to Jamie and tackled him onto the ground and they began wrestling. I have noticed these brothers were always turning to wrestling when they get mad with each other.
Someone rolled up to me and I looked up to see Gabe. I glared at him and he smirked, holding his hand out, “Let me help.”
I scoffed. “Don’t need it.”
“Really, so your just going to sit there the whole time?” He asked.
I turned myself to my side and forced my body up. I became off balance quickly, but Gabe caught me. I made sure he was only touching my arm, keeping my body away from him. When I gained my balance, I snatched myself away from him.
“Damn, you act as if I burned you.” he said.
I glared at him more. “You are like acid.”
He grinned, placing his hand over his chest. “You say the sweetest thing.”
“I hate you.” I said.
He just shrugged and skated forward. I glared at his back, wishing I got have laser eye vision like that guy from X-Men movies Scott made me watch. Would be the perfect time to have them.
Colleen skated up to me and looked at me, then Gabe, then me again. “Is everything okay?” she asked.
I turned to her, nodding. “Yes, just fine.” I said.
*
After getting a shower and got dressed in some warm clothes, there was a knock at my door. I walked over to it and opened it a little, seeing Colleen. “Hey,” I said, opening it all the way and turned around and walked over to my dresser to brush my hair.
She closed it and walked over to me. She had a look; a worried one. “Okay, we’re alone. Now tell me the truth.” she said.
I turned my head to her, my eyebrows together. “What do you mean?”
“Don’t think I’m dumb, Abigail. I have been watching you for the last two weeks and I’m surprised Scott hasn’t caught on, and that boy isn’t dumb.” she said.
I tired to change the subject, “I’ve been tired a lot. So how were you and Tristan first time—”.
“You're changing the subject.” She said. Damn. “Abigail, come on, you can me anything. You can trust me.”
I sighed, looking down at my brush, “I’ve been hearing those words so much ever since I met you guys. Trust is just a word used.”
“Abigail, come on. I have told you everything, why can’t tell me? If you don’t want Scott finding out, you shouldn’t stress about me telling him. I can keep a secret. I’ve kept you lying about being muted a secret.” she said. “I’ve noticed your always nervous and concerned when Gabe’s around. Why? Abigail, look at me.” She said, grabbing my arm and turned me to look at her and I met her eyes. “Look me in the eye and tell me what’s wrong? I’m your friend, believe me.”
I snatched my arm out of her and walked over to my door, opening it. “I want to be alone right now.”
“No.” she said, going over to my bed and sat down. “I’m staying until you tell me what’s going between you and Gabe.”
I quickly shut the door and walked up to her. “There is nothing going on between me and Gabe.” I hissed out as if it was venom. Not because she was pressuring me into telling her, but the thought—any thought of what she meant—is going on between her and Gabe. “I just…don’t like him.”
She crossed her arms and legs. “Why?” She asked.
I groaned. “Colleen, stop this! You're thinking crazy.”
“Why?” she just asked again, ignoring me. “Tell me.”
“Get out of my business!” I said, getting pretty annoyed with her now.
She got up from the bed. ‘You know, I’m sure whatever your holding inside is eating at you and you just want to tell someone about it, don’t you?”
I started to feel nervous now since what she was saying was true. I swallowed hard, looking away “No.”
“Liar.” she said.
I felt her heavy gaze on me, making my chest feel heavy and I felt tiny with the lie. I stole a glance at her and I saw her give me an ‘I’m serious’ look. I felt more and more nervous, my chest feeling so heavy as if piles and piles of book were loading in my chest.
After a long minute, I groaned, giving in. “Fine, I’ll tell you!” I said in defeat and she sat back down, waiting for me to tell her. I sighed heavily and told her everything. She sat there, listening to me, never interrupting. I’ll admit, it did feel pretty good to tell her what has been going on and I felt like I could breath a little more easier.
By the time I finished, her mouth was hanging opened as she gaped at me in surprise.
“Oh my God, is that true?” she asked and I nodded. “Abigail, we have to tell Scott—”
I quickly shook my head, grabbing her hands. “No, Colleen, you can’t. Gabe's more trouble then you think. If he can grab me and be close to strike me, think what he can do other then that. He was in a gang, what do you think he’s capable off? He’s dangerous.”
“Abigail, Scott will protect you. You also have four—no, now five other wolves to protect you also.” she said. “You should have told someone the first time.”
“What if Scott doesn’t believe me and blames me though?” I questioned, feeling my eyes water up at the thought of Scott hating me.
“He won't, Abigail.” she said. “You will always come first before a friend to Scott no matter what. You don’t know this?”
“But Gabe said Scott would pick a long life over me.” I told her
“And you believed him?” she asked. “Abigail, no matter—and I mean no matter what, Scott will always be there on your side. And haven’t you ever seen the Discovery channel? Wolves fight the other wolves in packs for their mates. Scott will believe you.”
Suddenly my door burst open, making Colleen and I jump up from our seats. Gabe leaned on my door frame and tossed an apple back and forth in his hands. “You sure are like Tristan, so nosy, which is why we never got along as kid.” he said, not looking happy. He leaned up and walked a few steps in. “Look here Colleen, I wont let some nosy little goldie lock brat like yourself ruining my fun time here, so I suggest you stay quiet.”
She got up from the bed, crossing her arms over her chest. “And what makes think I’m going to do what you say? Now knowing what you really are, I can’t stand the sight of you and want you out of this house. Kelly’s right, you are a bad person.”
“Ah, she said bad influence.” he said like a smartass. “But I know a little something about you, Colleen.”
“Oh yeah? What is it you have against me? I tell Tristan everything.” she said in a challenge as she crossed her arms over her chest.
“Are you sure about that?” He questioned, raising an eyebrow. “Does he know your father planning on moving you guys to Michigan?”
Colleen gasp, her arms dropping. “How the hell do you know about that?”
I got up, turning her to look at me. “What's he is talking about Colleen? Your not moving, right?” I asked, humorlessly chuckling.
She looked at her feet. “Well….” she trailed off.
“No.” I said, wanting to cry now. She can’t move away from here. She can’t leave. “Colleen, please tell me this is a joke. You can’t leave Tristan or me.”
“It’s not official just yet.” she said. “He might change his mind.”
“How about this little more info?” Gabe questioned. “You want to move you guys because he can’t stand his little daughter dating a jock like Tristan. He wants to separate you guys.”
“How do you know this?” Colleen hissed at him.
“Like Abigail said, I was in a gang, I have my ways of knowing things. Call it stalking, but I knew I had to have a little dirt on each one of you girls just in case it came to it. Like how I know how much Abigail loves her little brother, so I wouldn’t want to separate them by sending him to foster care. I know people in the kind of work that can do that.”
Knowing his plan now, it hurt to think of Tyler being raised from someone else and forgetting all about me. No, that can’t happen! I wont loose Tyler because of him!
“So both of you will keep your mouths closed.” he said. “Wouldn’t want Tristan to find our that you plan on leaving him, right?”
“You're horrible.” she said.
“I have heard.” he said, looking at me and grinned. “So much funnier with another player.”
“This isn’t a game, Gabe!” I hissed.
“To me it is.”, he said. “You’re my players in my own personal boredom. I need something to do while I figure out what I want to do to Scott.” he said, turning around and walked over to my door.
Confused at what he said, I walked behind. “What are you talking about?” I questioned and I got pissed when he didn’t say anything. “Gabe, what did you mean?” I angrily asked, annoyed and pissed now. He slammed my door shut behind him and I kicked my door, screaming behind my closed lips.
I really have to find a way to let my stress out.
