Chapter Thirty-One.
The car slid a tiny bit and I grabbed onto the back of driver seat, “U-um, Scott, are you sure you really want to continue drive at this time of night?” I asked.
He chuckled nervously, “Abby relax, everything is going to be fine. I am the one with night shade vision here.”
I swallowed hard, “I know, but still, anything can happen.”
Skyler Sir chuckled, “Everything going to be, Abigail. My tiers are made for weather like this, so it’s going—fuck Scott!” he yelled angrily when Scott slid and he hit his hand against the window. “Pay attention!”
“I am!” he said.
“I would like to make it to Colleen’s alive and unharmed.” I sarcastically said.
He snorted, “Nothing going to happen, Abby. Have faith in me.”
I sat back in my seat and tighten the seat belt, not sure if I can be in the same car as Scott anymore until he gets his license. Thankfully we’re in the woods where no other cars are around and the street lights are on.
I knew what I have to tell Colleen about telling the boys is not going to make her happy, but they need to know. Tristan was going to find out about her might be moving anyways.
Standing up to my parents makes me feel a little better and have the courage to stand up to Gabe now. I mean, I had survive leaving in an abusive home for sixteen years. I will not let some whatever stupid grudge he has control me and somehow get Scott hurt.
Starting to think of it, I have never really fully got what Gabe meant about some party Reece Saunders had when they were young. He told me to ask Scott about it, but I have never really gotten around to it. Maybe I will now.
“Hey Scott,” I started.
“Yeah?”
“Can I ask you something?” I asked and he moaned a ‘Mh-hmm’. “Um, well, Gabe had once told me about some party a few years back when you were in seventh grade. He told me to ask you about a game?”
I looked at the rearview mirror and saw his eyebrows come together, “Seventh grade? That’s a little way to fair back, but I remember. It was Reece’s birthday.”
“Isn’t that the one ya’ll went to a week before Gabe and his family went back to Chicago?” Skyler Sir asked. “He was acting all weird after. I mean, when they got here, he seemed like the happiest boy alive, but after, it was like hell rain down on him.”
Scott shrugged, “I don’t know, all he told me was that he wanted was to go back to Chicago.”
Curious, I decided to ask more, “What happened that night? He said something about a game.”
“A game?” he questioned and thought for a second. “Oh! That game. It was stupid spin the bottle.”
I nodded, “Right, that’s what he said. Isn’t that some kissing game? I heard of it, but never knew what it was.”
He nodded, “Yeah, we all played.” he said, shrugging. “I don’t know why he’s making it seem to point out, though. It was a stupid game.”
More curious to find out who it landed it, I decided to ask more, but not sure if I wanted to hear the answer, “Who did it land on, on your turn?” He didn’t speak so quickly and he looked pretty nervous in the rearview mirror. I felt something in the air and I didn’t like it. I leaned up and leaned over the seat, “Who was it, Scott?’
He sighed heavily, “It was Mina.”
Well, they do say curiosity kill the cat.
I felt Skyler Sir scoot away from me as best as he can.
My mouth hung open and he looked over at me for a quick second, turned back to the road, me again, and the road again. “Abby, come on, stop that. You’re freaking me out.”
“Mina Brown?” I questioned.
“Yeah, it was a long time ago. No more than three second, it was nothing. Kind of gross actually because she had this load amount of lip gloss on and her makeup was pretty much caked up on her face and those ear rings she was wearing. Damn, if looks like they could go around my neck and choke me!” he said.
My mouth was still hanging opened as I thought about I felt. Mostly pissed cause of all people to land on, it was Mina! The thought made me ball my hands up in a fist, my nails digging into my skin.
I have been hearing about Mina way too much! But what’s strange is—she’s been kind of leaving Scott and I alone for the last couple of weeks. Like, she hasn’t tried stealing him away from me.
What’s with the sudden need to no longer make him ‘hers”? She was hung up all over and now she’s ignoring him? I mean, not that I mind, but it’s pretty strange how she just stop. Maybe she finally realized after I broke her nose that he was never going to be with her.
Something crossed my mind back a few weeks ago when Gabe first arrive and Scott and I mention the fight between Mina and I and how protective and concern for her he was. I thought about the last few time Mina would be brought us and the way Gabe’s eyes would light up.
They couldn’t be, right?
I thought about all the time Gabe spends not home. Where could he be going to? The boys don’t even run that long and he actually gone for most of the day. And he always lights up when he walks into the house and I have caught him talking a few times on the phone flirty.
Oh my god, I thought. Mina’s his mate!
I hit Scott’s chest, “Mina!” I yelled.
He quickly pulled over and turned in his seat, rubbing at the spot I hit, “Jeez, Abby, and you say I’m going to be the reason we get into an accident. Look, it was a stupid game, it didn’t mean anything—”,
“No, Scott, not that!” I said pretty loudly cause I was pretty excited. I mean, I’m still pissed at the thought of them kissing—ever. But now I know why Gabe hates Scott so much! Scott kissed Mina in front of Gabe and that was a big no, no in the wolf world. An ultimate betrayal in his eyes. Gabe must have never told anyone and I’m sure Scott would have never done if he knew. Gabe got pissed, held a grudge on Scott, and now he wants to make Scott feel like how he did years ago.
How immature of him!
“Mina is Gabe’s mate!” I said.
He looked at me crazy, “What are you talking about? She couldn’t be.”
“But she could be.” I said. “Think about it, Scott.”
“Why would Gabe keep that a secret then?” he asked. “Why would he keep having a mate from his family? Finding your mate is not something you can’t keep a secret.”
“I don’t know.” I said, shrugging. “But I’m sure Mina’s his mate, Scott.”
“Where are you getting all this?” he asked, looking lost. “Okay, let’s say she is, okay. What I don’t understand is why he would try to hide it and why this really mean so much to find out.”
Moving my lips inwards, not sure what to say without telling him the full truth, I moved back into the seat and looked down at my lap, “It’s just surprising, that’s all. Can we go now? I told Colleen I would be there soon.”
“Abigail,” he said in a warning tone because I was changing the subject.
“Scott, come on, you have to practice.” I said.
He turned in his seat and opened his mouth, “No, tell me—”.
“Scott.”, Skyler Sir said. “Abigail says it’s nothing, it’s nothing. Can we just go now?”
“But-”,
Skyler Sir gave him a hard look and Scott paused, looked at me for a second, and turned back around in his seat, starting to the car up again and drove.
Once we got to Colleen, Scott and I got out of the car. We hugged and when he pulled back a little, he looked down at me seriously, “Tell me tomorrow what’s going on, please?” he asked, his eyes look begging. “I’m starting to get worried with you now and you know, whatever it is, I’m going to believe you, right?”
I nodded, “I know. Tomorrow, I will tell you. I promise.”
“Good.”, he said, leaning down and kissed my forehead. He sighed heavily, “Are you sure you want to go over? I mean,” he said, leaning down to my ear to whisper. “I could always sneak you back out later in the night.”
I chuckled once, “Girls night, Scott. I never been to a sleep over, I want to stay.” I said, stepping back.
“Well tomorrow is going to be an Abigail and Scott day.” he said.
“That’s every day, though.” I pointed out.
He grinned, “I know.” he said, stepping forward and kissed me.
After a minute of kissing and totally forgetting what we were doing, we heard someone clear their throat, “You both have your whole lives to do that. Get in Scott, I’m tired. I’m not as young as I use to be.”
Scott sighed heavily, “Goodnight.”, he said to me.
I nodded, “Night. Be safe out there, don’t get you both killed.” I said, pointing at the car and him.
He chuckled, “Hey, I’m an excellent driver.” he said. “I love you.”
I smiled, grabbing the string of his hoodie and leaned up on my tip toes, pecking him hard, “I love you to. Now I better go before Colleen comes out and become all loud and the whole neighborhood hears her.”
He nodded, “True.”.
I walked over to the house and knocked on the door when I heard the car leave. The door opened a second later and Colleen quickly pulled me in, “Thank god, I thought something happened to you.” she said in a worry. “I thought You Know Who did something to you.”
“No, just something else.” I said, looking into the living room where I saw her dad. He was pretty tall and skinny looking. He had thick framed glasses and had Colleen grey-blue eyes. He was also blonde, but his hair was a little dark. He was wearing a button up shirt and black dress pants as he got up and came over to us.
“Oh, dad,” Colleen said. “This is Abigail, the girl I told you about. Abigail, this is my father, John.”
“Nice to meet you.” I said, raising my hand in the air a little.
“You to, Abigail.” he said. “Colleen sure has talk a lot about you. Surprising to hear her talk about someone else then that trouble making boy.” he said, rolling his eye before walking into the kitchen.
Colleen frowned at the way he described Tristan before taking my hand, “We’re going upstairs, dad.”
She didn’t even wait for him to respond before dragging me up the stairs. We went into her room and she had pink walls and everything else was a typical girl’s room. Lots of picture were everywhere.
“Okay, so tell me what kept you so long.”, she said.
I sat next to her, “You really want to know? Because I’m going to tell you everything and I’m not sure you’re going to like it.”
She hesitated, taking a moment. “Okay, I can handle it. Shoot.”.
I took a deep breath before telling her everything from my parents showing up, me telling them off, deciding to Scott about Gabe which she began to protest, but I told her to let me finish. I told her about the drive here and how I figured out why Gabe’s so horrible and Mina being his mate.
She jumped up from the bed, “That makes total sense!” she said. “Oh my god, ew! She’s his mate? I feel bad for both sides. They are both pretty evil, they deserve each other. But still, ew!” she said, jumping like a little kid and waved her hands around.
“I know,” I said. “But Colleen, we have to tell the boys. Tomorrow.”
She didn’t look like she liked the idea, “I don’t know, what if Tristan gets really mad and does something stupid?”, she asked, playing with her hands nervously.
“I know your scared, Colleen, but when I told my parents off, I felt so much better. You’re going to have to tell sooner or later anyways. Please, I can’t keep living with this. Gabe is horrible and he need—and saying this in a very cliché way, but we need to stop him.”
She looked down at her hands and turned around, “I—I don’t know. Maybe your right, but I just don’t want to lose Tristan, Abigail. I love him so much and I wish my dad would realize that.”
“Well, have you told him that?” I asked.
She hesitated, “I told him I have very strong feelings for him and he just shook his head and left the room. He hears what he wants.”
“Well your going have to talk to both. Put them in the same room and neither of you all can leave until your all finish.” I said. I got up and put a hand on her shoulder, “Colleen, this is the right thing to do. Tristan won’t hate you. Remember what you told me? Wolves never hate their mates. You told me not to be scared, well, now I’m telling you not to be scared.”
She sighed heavily and closed her eyes. She nodded, “I know, you’re right. Tomorrow, we’ll tell them.”
“Good.”, I said, hugging her.

Scott:
I kept looking over at Gabe as we ran and I had this very bad feeling in my gut that something was very wrong and Gabe has something to do with it. It’s been two hours since I drop Abigail off and even before that, I felt this bad feeling she’s keeping something from about Gabe, but I can’t seem to figure what it is.
We finally slowed down and changed back. He looked tired, “What’s on your mind, cousin?” he asked.
I shook my head, running my hands threw my hair, “Nothing, man. It’s just….Abigail. I don’t know.”
“You two fighting?” he asked.
I shook my head, “No, but something. I don’t know. You haven’t said anything to her, right?”
He chuckled, slapping my arm, “What would I have to tell her anything? Your one of the most goodie to shoes wolf I know.”
“So you didn’t tell her about Mina in a few years back in Reese’s party?” I asked him, curious to what Abigail could be saying is true.
He looked at me for a second, hesitating. “I may have mentioned it, but she didn’t look mad. Dude, don’t worry. She’s totally in love with you.”
“I know, but…” I trailed off, not sure. Too many things are running through my head right now to even progress it.”
“But nothing.” he said. “Come on, maybe a run will help you think.”
He turned and as he ran, he turned back into his brown/black wolf. I hesitated, not sure if everything my best friend has been telling me the truth, but I followed him.
After minutes and minutes of running, I looked over at him again and he kept his gaze forward.
Stop looking at me, he thought.
What have you been telling Abigail? I asked him.
He looked at me for a second before looking straight again, Nothing, man. Come on, what on earth could I have told her?
Is Mina your mate?, I questioned and I didn’t even realize we ran into a road and in the corner of my eyes, I saw bright light and when I turned my head, I saw headlights and I didn’t even get the chance to quicken my speed before it hit me.
