The Beginning
I lived an average life, worked at an average job, and was no different than any random person you could run into on the streets. Every morning I woke up, got dressed, and then started my rather long commute to the office building in which I worked. From then on, I spent the day filing paperwork and calling clients before heading home and starting the process all over again the next day.
To say the least, the pattern of my life was rather mundane. I couldn't lie and say I didn't dream of something bigger and better, but who didn't? So, until another opportunity presented itself I was set on living life the way I always had. For that reason alone, I assumed that when I awoke on January 12th, 2018, the day was going to go on as simple as any other...though I could have never been more wrong.
[11:28 a.m. - Atanta's Center for Law]
"Miss June, Mr. Michaels wants to see you in his office ASAP," requested the cool voice over the office intercom. At these words the rest of the paralegals on my floor fell silent as their eyes found me at my desk.
Mr. Michaels was the boss who oversaw the Center for Law as a whole, no one was summoned to his office unless it was for a firing or a promotion. Sadly enough, the former was the more likely event, especially as promotions only came down from the United States Law Department itself.
I slowly got up from my desk and made a beeline for the elevator as I attempted to avoid the stares of my coworkers. I am not even sure I began breathing again until the automatic doors closed behind me.
"Going up?" A low voice questioned as I reached for the button panel.
"85th floor, please," I managed to squeak out while avoiding eye contact with the stranger. The ride up seemed to last an eternity, all I could focus on is the inevitable doom ahead of me.
As the elevator bell signaled my arrival I finally broke away from my thoughts long enough to realize how strange the man standing next to me truly was.
His face was obscured by the upturned collar of his jacket and a black ball cap while long brown hair covered the rest. His clothing did not match the professional setting and the gloves he adorned in Atlanta's hot heat were even more peculiar.
After he realized I had made no motion to leave he reached out with his left arm to hold open the doors. In doing so the sleeve of his jacket bunched up enough for me to catch a glimpse of what appeared to be metal.
However, before I even had time to understand what I was seeing, the mysterious man let his arm slip from the doorway. Immediately the doors began to close and the elevator began to rise once more, but I had still not gotten off.
Frantically I began to ask, "What's going-", but I was interrupted as the brunette punched the emergency stop button and brought the elevator to a screeching halt. He turned towards me and proceeded to punch out the lights.
Drenched in darkness I slowly backed up until I was pressed against the wall, listening to his heavy breathing. My heart was beating out of my chest as I heard him whisper three haunting words, "You're my mission."
