Lick leaves behind behind crosses in the Minecraft world but I have a theory, my theory is the crosses Lick places in the Minecraft world have meaning to them.

Upside down crosses means that you're going to die by the hands of Lick. As shown up there ^^^^

Side way crosses means Lick needs help.

Right side up crosses means you're spared by Lick.
