I usually don't wear sock but on the rare occasion I do, I try to make them as weird as possible. For example I have socks that are just llamas or seguls with french fries, or even cats playing the accordion. It's not really a surprise when people comment on the socks I'm wearing but after I thank them I can't help but wonder why they stared at my feet long enough to figure out what was on my socks.
