Fight to Win

"You should've called us back immediately," Jonathan began to pester Liam.

Liam sighed, "everything was under control."

Jonathan shook his head. Evangeline grabbed his arm kind of reassuring him, "honey, leave him be. It's his pack remember."

Liam stood up and made his way around his desk, "mom, thank you for believing in me." His head kind of turned in his dads direction. In an accusing matter.

"Oh no, don't you do that," she turned towards her husband and mate, "come on John, let's let him get back to work." She patted his chest fixing his tie.

Jonathan rolled his eyes and began to follow his mate out the room.

"Hey, mom, can I talk to you before y'all leave?"

Evangeline turns nodding her head, "I'll meet you down stairs in twenty."she says to Jonathan before turning back around and walks over to her son.

The door shut leaving the two alone. Liam looked into his moms loving eyes, "what's wrong honey?" She asked him.

He sighed, "I'm a bit conflicted."

She walks closer to him, "about what?"

"About, well, everything."

She puts her hand on his cheek and she leans into it, "ask me anything, although if it's about the pack I don't know how much help I can be. I'm still only human," she chuckles.

"It's not just about the pack. It's about everything else. Mainly ahoy my wolf and myself. We have such a deep connection, I fear we might merge as one. Then the man will truly become the beast."

She dropped her hand from her sons face with a sigh, "Liam," she looked up at him with tired eyes, "you have always had a hard life. Right from the moment you were born. The hardships of being an orphan a mere few weeks after being born, nobody should have to go through that. The real reason you've been able to connect with your wolf more than anyone else has ever been able to is because of that. No one has ever imprinted on you like a mother should have. You've only ever had your wolf. It's the one thing you hung on to."

It all made sense to him, but was it him that was interested in the girl or his wolf? The two needed to be desperately separated.

"Dad, I'm fine, hey calm down!" Zoey tried to get a word through to her father who went on and on about wanting her to go back home. She shook her head.

"Zoey your mother and I want you back home. I'll speak to alpha Oliver on the matter."

Zoey shook her head, "father I am fine here. I am I great hands. There is no need to worry about me."

Her father sighed on the other side of the line. "You promise your okay?"

"Yes, I promise."

"Okay, then. Of course we will be at the wedding. A lot of alphas are going to attend so I'll see you there, okay?" Zoey had been away for two months already, and Oliver couldn't stand it. He missed his little girl.

"Okay, I love you and mom both. Give a kiss to Emily and Kyle for me." Emily and Kyle being her little siblings.

"I will honey. We love and miss you."

The line goes dead and Zoey sets her phone on her bed. She wasn't getting anywhere with Liam and she wasn't quite ready to take defeat. Throwing her legs over the side of her bed her feet touch the plush fur carpet that laid at the foot of the bed.

Zoey stood up and looked at herself in the full length mirror that hung on the back of her door. Her curly hair fell down past her shoulders, her big doe eyes held lots of life still not lived, and her full full lips were anything but unkissable. She didn't understand the dilemma. Why wasn't Liam falling for her?

Throwing her hair upside down she pulled her hair into a messy bun and pulled open her room door. She walked down the hall and towards mateos office. Not wanting to disturb Liam she thought she'd see what Mateo is doing.

So she wakes to the other side of the house, that is mostly empty seeing as it's a Monday afternoon. Her socks easily slid across the ground, so she scooted most of the way. Come to a stop she almost rush onto mateos office door. Giving out a giggle she pushes open the door.

Mateo looks up and smiles, "Zoey, what are you doing here?"

She slips in shutting the door behind her, "I kind of live here now, and I'm bored. Everyone is busy including my tutor. That an I already finished my essay. Nothing more left for me to do." She took a seat in one of the chairs in front of his desk, sitting cross cross.

"Of course. Why don't you ask Liam to take you out to the pond?" He looked back down at his computer.

"He seems busy. With his sisters wedding and everything. Can you take me?" Zoey and Mateo had had the time to get rather close. Spending as much time as they did together, one would assume they would be close.

"Hold up let me finish this here then I'll escort you out."

As promised he took ten minutes to finish up on his document and when he was done he showed her the pond.

It laid about a football field length away from the pack house. The pond is small but pretty. And a small dock allowed you to peer deep into the waters.

Zoey ran down to the end of the peer leaning over to look down into the waters. Mateo stood behind her smiling.

Liam found himself training the teens at five. He stood in front of them watching as they stretched. Assessing what he had to work with. These, if they choose to be, are his future soldiers.

"Stand up." He instructed them all. They stood. "Make five lines with an equal amount of people in each line."

Everyone continued to follow his instructs. They all got in line. He walked through the rows of people. Almost perfect. He nodded his head as he made his way back to the front.

"Who's graduating this year? Show of hands." His eyes narrowed in on one girl. Her Carmel skin flowed against the setting sun. She stood with her hand up in the air as a few others did.

"Do you know what you will do after you graduate high school?" No one answered.

"They will leave the pack, or become a part of the pack. You all are our further doctors, guards, teachers. You name it. This, you guys are the future," Liam turns to Aston who answered the question for him.

"Aston is right." He turns back to the group, "who of you had what it takes to apart of my guard? To protect not only me, your alpha, but to protect the whole pack."

"Step forward." Aston butted in.

Liam turned to him. With his back to the crowd of teens he whispered in his ear, "this is my training session. I do not need you butting in."

Aston held up his hands backing up, "okay, okay, my bad."

Liam turned back around. Out of the crowd of people a few guys had stepped forward.

"You guys want a chance to be apart of my guard?" Liam asked the guys that step forward.

A strong hum of, "yes sir's," were heard. Liam nodded his head.

"Training starts now, then. Instead of the usual cardio we will begin with one on one combat. Following me to the circle," Liam led everyone to the circle where fighting against ranks usual took pace.

Everyone awkward stood outside the barracks, outside the circle. Most have never been inside the circle. Only a single percent of them will ever actually be in the circle. If Liam has his way everyone will be in the circle at least once in their life.

He steps forward into the middle of the circle, "we will spare in pairs of two. Winner out of each pair will continue until there is no one left standing."

"What does the winner get?" The crowd parts to let Aston through, "I mean what it sounds like is there's going to be a clear winner. What do that get?" He stood at the edge of the circle.

Liam sighed, "no workouts for two days. Including the five mile run after we're done here."

A few guys cheered and patted each other on the back. The girls kind of groaned. They knew they would have no chance of winning, guys are always more dominant and stronger.

"First two in the circle any takers?" The cheers stop. It's only fair that two of the strongest guys stepped forward. Gabriel and Wesley made their way to the middle of circle from opposite ends.

"A fair clean fight," Liam start administrating the rules, "no shifting. Last man standing? Wins."

"What do you mean by last one standing?" Wesley speaks up.

"You either yield or can literally not stand anymore," Liam shrugs, "understand?" The two nervously nod, "shake hands."

Gabriel and Wesley shake hands, and the sparing begins.

For a solid two hours people come in and out of the circle. People don't take deafest to well and continue fighting until they have to be wheeled off to the hospital. Other yield quite quickly, making Liam shake his head.

When Serenity went he was on edge, almost wishing she didn't have to fight. Especially against Wesley who won against Gabriel. He was weak from going a few rounds with four different people. To Liams surprise she won, and went on for five rounds until she yielded to a guy named Oscar.

In the end Oscar won. Mainly because the guys had all been elongated leaving most of the girls.

He was free to leave while everyone else who wasn't in the hospital ran five mile in human form then five miles in wolf form.
