"Have you heard?" Mercedes burst into Serenity's room.

She looks up from sitting at her desk, "heard what?"

Mercedes takes a seat in her bed, "okay okay, so there's a bunch of stuff going around."

"Is this drama? Des, it's already Sunday and I'm not even halfway done with this weekend's homework."

Mercedes nodded her head at the new nickname her friend gave her, "okay okay but this isn't just drama! It has to do with everyone in the pack!"

Serenity turns to face her, "okay shoot what is it? And if it's not life-changing I'm kicking you out of my room."

She rolls her eyes, "fine fine. First, though guess what we're doing for Valentine's Day?"

"Get out."

"No no no wait! We're going to a ball!"

Serenity stares at her friends, "a ball?"

"Yes! A real-life ball! With gowns and everything." Des now wears a smug look on her face because she piqued Serenity's interest.

"Go on."

She stands up, "oh but I thought I was getting kicked out."

"Stop, I take it back."

"Fine," she sits back down, "okay so I asked my brother if it was true and he said yes! Preparations started sometime this week, but it won't be confirmed until sometime next week. How exciting is this?"

"Very, but I'll most likely be working it. That just means more work for me." Serenity sighed.

"Hey maybe not, maybe alpha Liam will let you attend after all you do get away with a lot of things."

"What?" Serenity gasps, "like what? Alpha Liam hates me just as much as everyone else in the pack!"

Des shakes her head, "he does not! He's smitten with you just like my brother is! Don't think I haven't noticed. I'm pretty sure everyone has."

"I can promise you it's not like that."

"If you say so, but the fact is you are gorgeous. Everyone is just now realizing this! Ugh a romantic love triangle, that's just what we need!" Des puts the back of her hand on her forehead and pretends to faint.

"Stop it, stop it. I don't need anyone falling in love with me. In fact, no one will, I'm just an omega after all." She crosses her arms looking down.

Des sits up and looks at her friend, "Serenity, you are so much more than your title," she reaches over and grabs her friend's hands, "in this day and age I don't think anyone cares about what you are ranked."

"You know that's not true. I appreciate the kind gesture though."

Des sighs yet again, "I wish you weren't so stubborn." She drops her friend's hands.

"I'm not stubborn, just realistic."

"I guess your right. It's not realistic for 17-year-olds to be stuck on a guy that's 23 and outranks them both. I mean he is six years older than us."

Serenity fake laughs, "You're right. That's not going to stop Julianne though."

"You right. Not that she has a chance with him. He is the alpha after all. Oh my gosh, the other bit of tea! I almost forgot!"

Serenity rolls her eyes, "so it is drama?"

"No not drama, tea. Two separate things my dearest friend."

"Ok okay what's the "tea" then," Serenity asks while putting air quotes around tea.

"Okay, I didn't say anything but alpha Liam was seen leaving Kensley's room the morning after the meeting." Des wiggles her eyebrows.

"What?" The same night he was so close to kissing her?

"I know right. I don't know why it's a shock to anyone. They've been friends since childhood. She's probably going to be our next Luna."

Serenity couldn't believe what she was hearing. Kensley being their next Luna. It kind of hurt. For some reason, her heart began to clench and her stomach got all tight. What was this feeling?

Before the two girls could continue on with the conversation a knock on her door interrupted them. They both looked over and we're shocked to see beta Mateo.

"Sorry to interrupt you two, but your presence is being requested by alpha Liam. He's in his office." This was directed towards Serenity and she knew it. She was after all his maid. Nothing more.

"Of course," she bowed her head out of respect and stood up.

Des stood up behind her, "we'll continue this conversation later," she whispered in her ear.

Serenity faintly nodded as she followed Mateo down. All three parted ways halfway down. Serenity picked at her nails as she slowly walked towards alpha Liam's office.

She hadn't seen him since that day. Considering she had cleaned his room twice since then she was really surprised that this was their first encounter since. Why did he call for her? Was this the final rejection?

She flatly knocked on his office door and didn't open the doors until she heard a 'come in'. Her movements were slow, precise, and cautious. After all, she didn't know what she walking into.

"It's you, finally," he didn't even bother glancing up. He already knew her scent. The scent he didn't want to admit that he loved so much and if stores sold a candle he would buy them out, "seeing as everyone's swamped with their own work I-" he paused. He didn't want to say that he needed help even though he did, "I need these stamped with my official stamped addressed and mailed out."

He pulled a big stack of paper out of his drawer then a separate set of envelopes. "All of the addresses have to be hand-printed on the front of each envelope."

She nods her head, "of course is there anything else?"

He shook his head, "that's all. Take these," he pushed the two separate stacks towards her, "my stamp is on my desk in my room along with the sheet of addresses. You can work there and just leave them whenever you're done."

Nodding her head she takes the two stacks and makes herself scarce. The thoughts of being alone in his room race around her mind. Did he trust her that much to leave her alone in his room for a long period of time?

                      By the time Serenity finished addressing, stamping, and sealing each envelope (yes sealing was a different process that she had to figure out for herself. She had to melt each wax, pour it on the envelope where it was supposed to close and stamp it again) it was past sun down.

She sat in the chair stretching while admiring her work. About a hundred or so invites addressed, stamped, and sealed. Apparently what Des told her was true. Their pack is indeed hosting a ball and inviting all the pack in North America.

"Finished yet?" A voice behind her made her jump ten feet in the air.

She put her hand over her heart and nodded her head.

"You shouldn't be able to scare so easily. Always be aware of your surroundings, never put your guard down."

Of course, he'd give her a lecture.

"I did as you asked I finish all of them."

"You did?" he walked over and looked down at the separate stacks of envelopes.

"Of course, alpha."

Liam being taken aback by her calling him alpha stared at her for a second.

"What?" he asked her. His eyes flashed between his normal eye color and yellow.

"I- I meant no disrespect."

He rubbed his eyes with one hand squinting, "nothing your free to go."

Serenity didn't bother saying anything. Just stood up and began making her way to the door.

"Actually, wait."

She stopped dead in her tracks, "yes."

He still had his back turned to her as she turned to face him. He didn't say anything just stood still.

"Did I do something wrong?"

"No," he still didn't turn to face her.

"Am I free to go th-"

In a flash, he appeared in front of her. What was it going to be this time? A final rejection? Was this it? Was he going to tell her of her place? Was he going to put her in her place?

It was quite the opposite actually. For the first time in a while, Liam's wolf had full control. It was no longer Liam pulling the strings, but rather his alter ego, and his alter ego didn't quite like Serenity.

He didn't like how weak he made Liam. At the same time though this was his true love. The one person he was made to be with. Unable to distinguish between the two emotions he went with his first primal instinct.

Serenity couldn't help but stare into his yellow beating eyes. She knew this was no longer the alpha she knew but in fact something different. Something entirely different.

With weaker wolves, it was harder to keep the wolf part of themselves inside, so they often crept out as their alter ego. The stronger wolves didn't have to worry about this much, because they knew how to keep them in check. Liam definitely wasn't one of these weaker wolves, so for his alter ego to make an appearance like this meant Liam was fighting some inner demons.

What those inner demons in tail. She didn't know. What she did know is that she could possible be in danger. Yet she didn't make any attempt to flee.
