Pick is Leo

When we get back to Leo's locker Eli is standing there looking worried so to make the mood lighter I say something "Why so worried? You afraid I was gonna walk off with him and never come back?"

Eli growls but stops as soon as he started "No because I know he doesn't swing for your team, so there."

I smile a little. "I know, I just wanted to see what would happen if I said that. Now I know. But I gotta go my brother is looking for someone who might just be me." just as I say that I hear through my mind link

"WHERE ARE YOU I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR YOU EVERYWHERE! SO WHERE ARE YOU?"

"Calm down I'll come to you. Be right there." I reply

"Yup he's looking for me love ya both bye."

"Bye Meagan." They said at the same time. I laugh a little and head off to find my brother.

By the time I find him I'm five minutes late for class "There you are ya know you could have told me where you were going to wait." I smile jokingly. He doesn't even crack a smile. "Come on bro light up some."

"One, you never asked where I was and two, this is important matter." He says this in a monotone voice.

The smile drops from my face "What is it? What happened?"

"Nothing happened-"

"Then what is it?"

"The Alpha king still has not found his mate, and every 18 year old female who has not found their mate needs to go to the palace to see if any of them are his mate. It's been happening every year since he turned 18, you are to go their the weekend after your birthday the time changed this year. It was supposed to happen last weekend but it got moved, because he did something stupid and got him in the hospital."

I stand there in shock. My birthday is on Friday. I'm leaving my brother the day after I turn 18, if I don't find my mate in my pack and I sure as hell hope I don't. I finally find my voice and speak "Do I have to leave?"

"Only if you don't-"

I cut him off quickly "find my mate ya I know. But if I don't do I have to leave?"

He then said the one word I never wanted to hear "Yes."

"WHY? It's a one in a million chance!"

"I don't want this either but it's the King's order." he said with his voice going quiet "I was supposed to have you for another year but he had to go and injure himself." the last part held so much hate.

I sigh "It's not his fault he didn't know it was going to happen and if he did then he didn't know that it was going to get postponed." why am I standing up for him?

"I hope the moon goddess was not cruel enough to give you that monster."

We all know King Devin as a murder and ruthless, every king has been since the Siner family became royal. That's how the first Siner family member became the King one of the ancestors killed the King before them and as law dictates who ever kills the Alpha/King becomes the Alpha/King. There was a riot when that King died. My great great grandfather told my father that he was a kind and giving King but he died when he was 18.

I nod in agreement "don't we all wish that."

He looks at me "I don't want to lose you please look hard for your mate here. Please."

"Like I said before it's a one in a million chance so it probably won't happen."

"But there's still a chance." I nod again.

"I need to go I'm missing class for this, and before you say it, I will look when I turn 18 okay?"

"Okay but look."

"I know Jarod." he smiles and gives me a hug immediately I hug back "love you too but I'm still missing math so..." I detach myself from my dear brother and start to run down the hall "BYE!"

Time skip

I finish off Thursday and head home. Only to find my father and brother on the couch waiting for me. Looking at them I start to walk up to my room not wanting to get in whatever they were speaking about. Before my foot even hits the second step my father speaks "get your ass back here young lady." he didn't sound mad but he sounded worried. Quietly walking back, I sit on the couch in front of them. "As you know your 18th birthday is tomorrow and you can find your mate and if you don't find him then you have to go see the King to see if you're his mate, the next day."

"Yes father I know. It might be a slim chance but it is still possible."

"Nether of us want to lose you Meagan. I hope you know that." my brother says "I just hope with all my heart th-" he was cut off by his phone ringing. He looks at the contact and looks at my father "I have to take this." and walks off. When he gets back he says "sorry that was my mate Randi," my brother is 20 months older than me so he has already found his mate. "She just wanted to know where I was."

Both me and my father laugh a little "that girl always wants to know where you are." my dad said laughing a little more.

I smile and for a brief moment I forget everything that had been bothering me. Then that moment was over. "Father are we done here? I have homework to due for tomorrow."

"Yes we're done. But remember to find your mate at all cost okay?"

"Yes father." I want to stay here as much as my brother wants me to stay but if I don't find my mate I have to leave. I head up to my room and complete my homework, then go to bed wanting today to be over and done with.

When I wake up, I do my daily routine and head off to school. As I pull up people crowd my car, to be honest, most of them were of the male variety. I get out of my car and sniff the air. "NOPE NONE OF YOU NOW GO AWAY!" I didn't smell my mate with in the aroma of the air. At all.

I get to my locker only to find Bramley leaning up against it. He sees me and goes to hug me. Once his neck is within chopping range, I throat chop him. Coughing he backs up, "Wha-... wha-... what... was... that... for." he says trying to take deep breaths.

"Don't touch me." I say with no emotion in my voice.

"But can't you tell that we are mates even now your wolf must feel bad for letting you do that to me."

Brenna, my wolf, growls 'hell no I've wanted to do that ever since he spoke a word to us."

"No regrets." is all I say to him. "You should just give up Bramley I'm not your mate, plus I would never accept you, now get out of my face." grabbing my things, I go to my Math class.

My day goes on with the occasional person coming up to me to see if I'm their mate. They never were. Once I get to lunch I sit with Eli and Leo and they both simultaneously said screamed "HAPPY BIRTHDAY"

"Ow why would you do that to a person? Are you trying to make me go def?"

Eli forces me to sits down "Have you found him yet"

"No but I want to."

"Here?"

"I don't care anymore I just want to find him before tomorrow."

"Well I found Leo a day after mine so maybe you'll find him tomorrow."

"Don't you dare say that."

"Why?"

"Because if I don't find him by the time I wake up tomorrow then I'm fucked. Right up main street. Ya want to know why?" they both nod "because if I don't find him then I have to go to the palace to see if the King is my mate, all 18 year old girls, with no mate, have to, it might be a slim chance but it's still a chance and I don't want that responsibility."

"Oh Megsi he can't be that bad. Can he?" Eli looks at Leo for reassurance.

"Hm oh ya not that bad." he says with no confidence at all.

"SEE I'm fucked if I don't find my mate!" I say putting my head in my hands.

"No you're not. We can get through this. Ask your father if someone who has found their mate can go with you to accompany you."

"Fine." I mind link my father "dad?"

"What is it have you found your mate?"

"No I have not I believe that I am going to go to the palace can I bring someone who has found their mate to accompany me?"

"There has to be a chauffeur with each person so yes. Why do you ask?"

"Eli wants to go with me."

"No he can not go with you."

"Why not?"

"Because he has not found his mate."

"Yes he has the next Beta will be Leo one of the fighters."

"Oh okay he can go but his mate CAN'T go with him only one chauffeur can go."

"Got ya thank you" I cut off the mind link and look and the pair "only one of you can go and if I get to pick I chose Eli. No offence Leo."

"None taken." he says.

"I'll go. If it's for you I'll go." Eli says.

"No you won't. I don't care, if it's for the Alpha, you are not going." Leo revolts.

Eli looks at him as if he's gone crazy. "This is not your choice. It's mine. But please enlighten me, why can't I go?"

"Because you could get hurt and I have not marked you yet, someone might steal you away from me."

"No one will take me away from you okay?"

"You promise?"

"I promise."

"Fine you can go but you have to call every day at least twice okay?"

"Done."

Time skip

The annoying sound of my alarm wakes me up at three am. Today's the day. The day I have to go see the king to make sure I'm not his mate. Knowing I'm going to be late if I don't leave soon, I jump out of bed and get dressed in my classic sweater and black yoga pants. I run to Eli's' place and knock on the door. After a minute of no one coming to the door or any sound at all coming from the house, I try the door knob. Unlocked. Going to Eli's room I open the door, to find him still sleeping. Sighing I look around for anything that might wake him up. I find a bullhorn, that for some reason was on his headboard, plugging my ears I push the button letting off that god awful blare that could make anyone go def. Eli jumps up and looks around, ready for a fight, then he sees me and calms down. "What the hell was that for?"

"To wake you up, pack your bags and get ready to go, we need to leave now, let's gets going. Plus you need to lock your doors."

"I see that now. Get out so I can change."

"Fine but be down in less than a minute or I'm coming back up here." I say threatening like. I go downstairs and wait. Thirty seconds later Eli comes running down the stairs suitcase in his arms, bag of chips in his mouth and hair disheveled. "GO GO GO." I yell after looking at the time. 3:15. Our plane leaves at 3:25, we have ten minutes to get to the airport. Luckily the airport is near the pack, but it might take longer to get there than ten minutes.

By the time we get there and go through security it's 3:23, we have two minutes to board our plane and find our seats. We run there and by the time we get to the plane door they are letting in the last people. Jogging up to the door with Elijah we give the attendant our boarding passes. She looks at our passes and speaks "running late?"

I look at the door "ya." when I look back she's waving us on the plane. When we get on the plane I ask Eli "what seats are we?"

"7 D and C." we walk to our seats and sit down. They go through the safety procedure and we're off. Eli falls asleep once the plane is level, I fall asleep soon after.

I wake up to someone shaking me. Opening my eyes I see it's Eli who looks as tired as I feel. "Let's go the plane has landed." I get up and walk to baggage claim, grab my bag and wait for Eli to grab his. When we get to the door, I see someone holding up a sign, that says 'RED MOON' on it, tapping Eli on the shoulder and point to the man holding up the sign, we walk up to him. "We are from the Red Moon Pack." Eli states. I sniff the air to make sure he's a werewolf, and he does the same. He is.

Wasting no time he says "come with me." we get in the car that will be taking us to the palace. I see some of the girls from my pack already in the car.

During the ride me and Eli talk about random things. "What if he is my mate?"

"Then I will go back and tell your father."

I hear some of the pack sluts talking beside me "like hell he's going to be her mate. She has never been Luna material. If anything he's going to be my mate."

Brenna gets offended and tries to get in control. "LET ME AT HER I'M GOING TO KILL THAT BITCH!" Fighting to stay in control, I grip the doors cigarette holder.

"What's that fag of a Beta doing here we all know the king is straight."

Hearing them again "and we all know that the king doesn't like sluts that show everything and by everything I mean everything so you might as well go home now bitch, plus you've been with so many guys I'm surprised you don't have all the diseases in the book." I snap knowing they can't do anything to me whilst we are here. They stare at me like a deer in the headlights and shut up. When we arrive at the palace I'm the first one out of the car, Eli is next and then the sluts. The same guy from before stands in front of us "I will show you to the throne room you will line up from least important to most important and the chauffeur will stand off to the side."

We get directed to the throne room and I'm at the back with Eli standing beside me for support. When the first person leaves crying, we move up and, I smell something that smells like heaven. Whispering to Eli "please tell me you smell that to." I get frightened when he shakes his head. As the line moves forward the smell gets stronger, and stronger, and stronger, as it does I get more, and more frightened. When I get to the front of the line, Brenna is going wild and yelling the one word I never wanted to hear in this place. "Mate." Me and the blue eyed King say at the same time. Thinking this can't be possible I start to walk out. That's all my mind could come up with, is just walk away. Getting up from his chair the king says "where do you think you're going?" it just goes in one ear and out the other. I keep walking out the door with Eli apologizing for me and running after me.

"What happened in there? Why did you just walk out?" when he gets no response he knows what's happened. "No. No he is not your mate." I've only done this once before. That was when my emotions gave out, from me holding them in for so long. This time was from me not wanting to accept my emotions so I shut them down. After all this time I can control my emotions, Brenna can not. That's why she's wanting to go back to him whining for me to turn back to see her mate again, to be wrapped in his arms and kissed by him. But knowing that he is a killer I shut it all down not wanting my 'feelings' to get in the way of me keeping my secrets, that no one knows not even Eli. I keep to myself when it comes to other people other than Eli, but somethings just need to stay from all ears even the ones you can trust the most.

Not even a minute later the King comes out and grabs my arm "where are you going?"

Not even looking back at him I say 4"I'm leaving. I can't stay here."

"LEAVING!" he booms loud enough to shake the very ground we walk on "YOU ARE NOT GOING TO LEAVE THIS PLACE! YOU WILL STAY HERE WITH ME! YOU ARE MY MATE AND YOU MUST STAY!" Feeling the anger wave off of him Eli flinches. My emotions don't respond to this at all. I don't flinch, hell I don't even blink.

Brenna just gets pissed "okay it's one thing that you ignore our mate-"

"I don't want a mate I don't need one because I can take care of myself"

"LET ME FINISH! It's one thing you ignore our mate, but to just let him scare Zach like that is not good behavior you have lost connections to all of your emotions and you need to get that connection back before someone gets hurt."

"I can't have a mate and I will apologize to Eli in the car I don't care if Zach is hurt that's wolf problems, not mine so back off."

"No I will not 'back off' you need to stop this BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT WHETHER IT BE EMOTIONALLY OR PHYSICALLY SOMEONE WILL GET HURT. HELL IT MIGHT EVEN BE YOU THAT GETS HURT!"

"I don't care anymore the moon goddess cursed me with him of all the people she could have paired me with anyone but she choose HIM I don't care okay I just don't now leave me alone." cutting her off I return to reality, only to hear Eli crying. That snapping some worry into me, I try to run over to him. Keyword try. I get pulled back by the King. "LET GO!" I scream at him. Shocked that anyone would speak to him that way his grip loosens a little, not a lot but a  enough to get myself out of his grip and to Eli. "hey hey it's me don't worry I'm here and I'm not going to leave you. Okay? You know that right? You have been with me through it all, you know it all, and he knows nothing I will always choose you over him. Okay?" the king hears this and gets pissed. Without saying anything he grabs my arm again, but with a tighter grip and no sign of letting go. "LET GO OF ME YOU MONSTER! HE NEEDS ME! I CAN'T LEAVE HIM!" I scream at him. He pulls me inside and the door closes with the last thing I see is Eli crying on the ground. I flick my emotions back on, and half shift. I run my claws down the arm that is firmly attached to mine. He howls in pain and let's go of my arm. Standing in a fighting stance I growl, as if to say 'come near me again and I'll kill you'. My wolf wines, because I hurt her mate. "My best friend needs me I am going to him and you will not stop me" I snarl at the brown haired King. Not turning my back to him I go out the doors to Eli and hug him. He looks up at me and I see a bloody gash across his face. I gasp and ask "who did this to you?"

He says the one thing I never wanted to hear come from his mouth "your mate did this to me, AND YOU DID NOTHING TO STOP HIM!"
