Chapter Fourteen: Deadly Laundry

"Laundry sucks" I mumble to myself as I spread my blue shorts over the wire.

Normally I went to Tom's place to do the laundry but I accidentally missed a whole shit tone of clothes and knowing Tom he'd berate me for being disorganized.

"Like the bastard is Mr. Spick and Span himself" I grumble.

So instead I did like my ancestors and washed the clothes in the tub in my bathroom. I know I should buy a washing machine and dryer, it's one of the bare necessities an apartment needs, but everybody knows those things get easily tap and is the perfect hiding spot for ninjas.

"I'd be damned if I bring something into my place that has a 40% chance in resulting tin my death" I say as I squeezed out the last remnants of water in a white top.

One may be wonder who I was talking to, well...no one. I have a firm belief that a person should be able to talk to themselves, out loud if need be. I wasn't ashamed of it, but I wasn't going to fucking do it in public either!

I stretch up and hang my top next to long white linen sheets. Only afew residents of this building actually use the wire cause it's an old and tired concept. Also this neighborhood is too posh for it. But the old lady who practically lived on the ground floor insisted it be installed because she missed the good 'ol days in the 30's. And seeing as she owns half the building the managers couldn't say no.

She was a nice old lady, but she's not gonna live long. Well...any long-ER

I arrange her linen sheets properly on the wire cause it was tipping. But in doing so I noticed something.

Someone.

I'm instantly on high alert. I shake my left leg alittle to confirm I was wearing the boot that had my hand gun hidden in it.

After the whole Premiere incident I was more cautious and aware of things. For the past few fight's I've been getting more sloppy and careless. To the point where I almost physically lost my life!

No more, never again.

If not for that masked stranger I would be a cold dead corpse right now. I'll never be able to thank that guy enough, and because of what he did I am more aware and alert.

No more slipups.

I pretend to be unaware of the movement on the other end of the roof, I continue to arrange my shirt on the wire and fix the sheet as well. As expected the figure moved, right to the corner of the roof, with the linen sheets completely blocking my view.

With the grace of a cat I smoothly bend down to reach for the laundry basket. Out of the edge of the sheet's tail I see him.

He guy who saved me.

He was wearing the exact same outfit, but somehow it looked more menacing and ominous in broad daylight. You could almost see the dark aura around him. Everywhere was as silent as a church, you could hear the breeze passing as it weaved its way through my hair.

I don't know how long I stared, but I knew he must've seen me be aware of his presence. I straighten up, laundry basket in hand, and step around the white sheets.

How'd he get up here? How did he find me? Where did he come from? Isn't it hot in that suit?

I balance the empty laundry basket on my hip and make for a friendly gesture.

"Hello!" I called over the roof.

The wind was knocking my hair in my face as I made my way towards him, I look down, cause I was pushing it back, as I spoke. "I never got a chance to thank you for saving my life, it's nice for once to have vigilante friends and not insane murders-"

I'm cut short as I jump back, yelp, and try to avoid the titanium blade that aimed at my jugular.

"What the fuck dude!" I yell as I skid back and my basket tips out of my grasp.

He doesn't say a word as he rotates his blade from east to west and comes at me with lightening speed.

I jump to the right and weave my way to the clothes. His blade was so sharp it cut through clothe with meticulous ease. My mind instantly clicks into attack mode.

I'm sorry old lady Margaery.

I flick the bed sheet in his face, I lift my left leg and whip out the gun. He cuts the sheets clean in two, dividing a gap in it in which I use to aim and fire the gun dead at the point where his head was at-

But he deflects it with his blade...

I was so stunned at the feat I wasn't quick enough to stop him as he, with lightening speed, unsheathed his other sword and hacked it down towards my neck!

I shiver and cry out in surprise as I back flip on one hand away from him just to create some space. But not only was the bastard fast as lightening he was quiet as fuck. As I fold down on my one arm from the weight of my body to push myself up again, I see the tip of his foot bloody apparate in front of me.

I roll over quickly to the side and his blade connects with the floor milliseconds later. I whirl kick my legs out to trip him but he anticipated me and jumps, I see his boot come flying down towards my ankle. A second of contact between that would cripple me!

"Rrraaaah!" in anger I roll up, tuck my feet out of the way, bring my knee's up and aim the gun at his calf.

Again, his bloody blade blocks me! I fire mercilessly, but he walks back, deflecting each bullet as he goes.

Calm down!

I scream at myself as gunshot sounds echo all around me. I needed to breathe, to think, and to stop being so reckless...well, more reckless than usual.

My hair was wiping around, I blow it out my face because it could become an annoying obstacle.

Obstacle...

Right as I figure out my plan the bullets in my gun finish, I unclick the empty magazine and aim it at him as he rushes forward to impale me with his sword. With all my might I throw, and the magazine connects with the screen of his helmet, then I deflect the blade tip with the gun in my right hand.

Momentarily distracted I break away and dash for the end of the roof towards the left. I hear the swing! of the blade before I hear it rip through the back of my tank top.

I jump over the edge of the roof, momentarily suspended in thin air I sway my arms and legs about, then I turn mid fall and grab hold of the piping system of the building. I wrap my limb around the slim galvanized pipes and slide down like an expert firefighter. Three floors down I reach the open window of my bedroom, I tighten the grip of my hands to slow abit and I pressed the flat of my feet against the building and pushed back fiercely.

I swing back slowly and aim to fall in through the open window, I look up just in time to see him through the weaving strands of my hair. He stood at the edge of the roof, looking down at me, silently, not moving an inch.

That one image would haunt me for weeks.

I swing my body forward and jump through my window.

I fall down hard with my shoulder on the carpet floor.

"SECURITY CODE 30!" I screamed as soon as I hit the floor and rolled to a crouch.

All the light bulbs of my entire apartment turn ox blood red and a huge wailing siren sound like that of a carrier plane garage door shutting erupted everywhere.

Next my apartment screamed...RED ALERT ALPHA SHUTDOWN!

I see my window slam shut, completely blocked and covered by titanium plates. I hear the rest of the windows in the apartment repeat the same movements then next I feel the one for my main door slam down and reverberated against the floor beneath me.

I push myself off the floor and begin to walk out the room and say harshly, "Conduct infrared biological scan"

Tiny red dots emit everywhere and scan every corner of everything as I leave the bedroom and enter the dining room/kitchen and go to stand in the living room.

I wait as I hear the beeps, then the results come in.

SECURITY SCAN COMPLETE....I held my breath...NO FOREIGN BIOLOGICAL SIGNS DETECED...

I let out the breath in a sigh of relief. I could feel blood pounding in my temple and I make my way back to the kitchen.

"I need a fucking cup of tea after that," I mumble to myself, rubbing my face in complete and utter exhaustion.

UNKOWN FOREIGN OBJECT HAS BEEN DETECTED!

My heart charges into complete overdrive.

"Fucking where!?" I scream, terrified that a bomb had been planted in my home.

A red dot appeared from one of my several thousand sensor detectors and I follow it with sharp eyes as it zooms in on the center table in my living room.

A white sheet of paper rested on it. I leap for it and crash down on the table as I snatch it up. Almost breaking the table, and my damn back, I roll onto the floor and read the little words scrawled on the paper.

We will meet again

Signed

.

Instead of my heartbeat speeding up and pounding, it slowed down to a chillingly cold degree.

I fumbled around to find my phone, dialed 866 and hit call.

Calling Tomass...

"Toooom!!" I screamed. "I need you!" I wail. Tom may be a blowhard sometimes but if ever I was in a pinch he will forever be the person I call for comfort.

He was just good at that.

"I'm on my way" I heard him reply instantly.s
