Chapter Five: One More Day

It was Thursday, the second. One more day until my birthday. Mark had just finished his next video and I was touching up some of the mechanics in my blue print. "Perfect!" I exclaimed. "Mark, I'm gonna go to the office and turn this in before I forget. You wanna come?"

"Sure,"

I started to walk to my car, but Mark ran past me and planted his butt in the driver's seat. I was about to just sit in the passenger's seat when he reached over and opened the door for me. I rolled my eyes and sat down, buckling in.

"What?" Mark asked innocently. "I'm just being a gentleman,"

"I can drive, though,"

"So can I, now tell me where to go,"

I groaned and rolled my eyes again. I told Mark exactly where to go and he followed my instructions.

We finally reached the destination. The office was just a really tall, boring building. It was tan colored and had windows all around it for every story. I tapped my fingers on the desk and a lady wheeled over. "Ah, (Y/N), early as usual?"

"Yeah. You know how Bryn likes early things,"

"He's a jerk when it's late. And who is this?" She asked, pointing to Mark who was still wearing the same shirt he wore two days ago.

"This is Mark. He's a friend of mine,"

"Hello Mark. And Bryn's in the office as usual,"

"Okay," I smiled at her and left to the elevator. "Bryn's office is at the top of the building and he despises visitors. So Mark, you should stay in the waiting room. I shouldn't be longer than fifteen minutes,"

"M'kay," Mark waddled over to the waiting room and sat down.

I pressed the elevator button and waited. Finally coming down, I stepped inside and pressed the button marked "20". I whistled a small tune as the elevator music was slow and depressing. That did not help with some other things. The elevator dinged, signaling I had reached my destination. I stepped out into the boring hallway and walked to the end of the hallway. "Ugh... Bryn and his stupid hallways...." I muttered. I finally reached the two large doors that were the entrance to Bryn's office. Squeaking open the doors, I saw Bryn do his signature spinning-chair entrance.

"Oh good," he said. "You brought it early?"

"Yes, Bryn," I placed the papers on his desk. "I'll be going now. I have stuff to do, like figure out what I'm doing for my birthday tomorrow,"

"Y'know... (Y/N)... I could take you out for your birthday. Go for a few drinks... Watch a movie at your place or mine..."

"Nah, I'm good. I have another friend I was planning on going with,"

Bryn looked to his security TV and pointed to Mark. "Is it this guy with the stupid spike in his hair? You know you can do better than that dork, (Y/N),"

"And I know I can do better than you, Bryn,"

"Oh, trying to play hard-to-get, huh? I can do that," Bryn got up from his chair and stepped toward me. I took a cautious step back, but Bryn took one long stride and was right in my face. Bryn was the cliché bad guy; he was 6 feet and 3 inches-- towering over me-- had those piercing blue eyes, and hair sprayed his black hair stiff. I could smell the stale and hardened spray he used earlier today as his face inched closer to mine.

"Wh-what are you doing?" I growled, my face hot from his strong, minty breath.

"Just playing a game~" he replied as he grabbed my chin and threw my face back toward him.

"Well I don't like it," I snarled, slapping Bryn. "You do not force me into anything or I will not hesitate to spray your eyes with pepper spray,"

Bryn gave me a death glare as he cradled his red cheek in his hand. "You know what, woman?!" He started. "I have given you everything. I gave you the highest position any woman in your department has ever gotten! All I ask is some gratefulness from you!"

"And because I got promoted because I was good at my job means I have to give you whatever ungodly things you want?! I'm not fucking kissing you and I'm not gonna fucking hand away my virginity because some ass hat thinks that men rule over women! I have put up with you for too long. And I seriously regret letting you kiss me a month ago! You knew I was going through things and was thinking thoughts and you took advantage over me. I am not some sort of toy for your amusement Bryn!" I flipped him the bird and grabbed the blue prints, "I quit! I'm done with your shenanigans and I'm done with you treating me like dirt!" I threw the blue prints in his fire place and stormed out of his office, flipping him off again and stomping to the elevator.

All the way down, I was angrily muttering to myself. Many of the words were profanities I had never planned on using in my entire life. Mark looked up and saw me stepping out of the elevator, red faced and fire flaring in my eyes.

~Mark's POV~

I heard the elevator ding and saw (Y/N) step out of the elevator, muttering to herself and streams of tears flowing down her red face. I ran up to her and pulled her into a hug. "Are you okay, (Y/N)?" I asked.

"Y-yeah..." She replied, sniffling.

"No you're not... What happened up there?"

"B-Bryn is a c-creep... A-and then he started yelling about how he gave me everything.... So I quit. I quit my job... Now I have n-no job... And I c-can't get anymore money.... And I can't s-survive without food..." By now (Y/N) had started going into how she was gonna become a bum and begging for money and food like those idiots who actually do have jobs.

"It'll be okay (Y/N), you won't become homeless and you won't be on the streets,"

"But there aren't any decent job openings around here.... And I can't work for Trimet. I have a dog and a cat and the schedule's too hectic and what if I get shot...?"

An idea popped in my head. "Well, if there aren't any decent jobs in Oregon or your general area... You could stay with me in LA until you find a job and can get your own house.... If there's nothing keeping you in Oregon, that is," Or just come and stay with me... You don't need to move away...

"R-really? You'd do that for me?"

"Yes. I'd do anything to help a person out,"

"Oh thank you Mark! Thank you so much!" She exclaimed, digging her face in my chest. My face started to radiate heat from my blushing. "I'll just need to tell mom where I'm going and what happened. You wouldn't mind riding in the car with me to LA instead of going on a plane, would you?"

"No, not at all,"
