My Maid and Work Wife
Izuku Midoriya and Camie Utsushimi were sitting together on the ledge of a skyscraper. It was the middle of the night. They had finished another shift together, both the day and night shift. Always together...
The moon was full with a golden glow and yet it had a lack of effort to shine. Only a few constellations were blinking in the sky due to the light pollution.
Camie rolled her eyes annoyed as she dangled her feet alongside him. She could tell something was bothering him, and she could also guess what.
"So you and Yaoyorozu hung out today, huh?" He had a sad thoughtful stare off into the city as he asked about how he ran into them at the cafe earlier that day.
She giggled, ignoring the reason for the hurt in his eyes. "Aw, are you jealous? Babe, I always spend time with you." She placed her hand on his shoulder, "Sometimes I just need some me time with the girls."
Izuku groaned as he shook her hand off his shoulders. "Oh my God, Camie! Shut up, why are you like this?" But he couldn't help but to chuckle along with her.
And the reason she was giggling was because that goofy shine was back in his eyes.
That goofy shine, that Izuku, not Deku, always had for her...
But then they faded away just as quickly. "No but I'm being serious. It was nice to see her, you know? We were-, I mean, we are friends, at least we're supposed to be, right? But lately, I don't know..."
Camie actually tried to take it seriously hearing the frustration in his voice. "Deku, ne..." This time she put her hand back on his shoulder but with earnestness. She leaned close to him before whispering it into his ear, "Don't worry, we were talking about you."
"Hiee!" Izuku backed away from her, in embarrassed panic. "S-Stop messing with me!"
Camie laughed at his flustered outburst holding her sides. After they both calmed down she waved him off as she leaned towards the city before turning her face to him with a bright eyed, toothy grin, "But I wasn't lying, she was thinking about you too!"
Izuku's eyes widened at the sincerity in her voice, and the embarrassed blush he had before might have come back as an enamored one...
'Because she did it... Her bright eyed, toothy grin had settled into that everlasting closed eye smile as she tilted her head and tucked that golden lock of hair behind her ear...'
He had to clear his throat and look away. He had to...
He scratched the side of his cheek as he spoke, "Thanks... But I also don't mind it, you know?"
Camie still had those closed eyes but lifted her eyebrows humming with her smile, "Hm, you don't mind wat fam?"
He had to contain his stutter as he mumbled it bashfully, "Er, you know... That you call me your work husband. I mean I know it's not anything romantic or anything like that but, after everything we've been through and still go through, I don't know, I guess I don't mind you being my work wife."
Camie was simply blowing her bubblegum bubble as she let him ramble to a natural conclusion, popping it as he finished. And she still had that ditzy smile until,
Her lips raised ever so slightly, "Ara, Ara? So, 'til death do we part, ne?"
Momo Yaoyorozu was cleaning Eri's face after they had all finished playing.
And Izuku had noticed.
'They were off to the side... She had huddled down to Eri's level, meeting her at face value, as she quietly hummed in a soothing tone, and I don't think she was aware she was doing it. She didn't cup Eri's chin like she usually does for me, instead there was a playfulness as she wiped the cloth with both hands, ruffling her face as they both giggled along to it.... And to me, it was the purest beauty of a mother.'
Camie popped her bubble gum next to her work husband. "That's like totes cute."
"Hiee! Camie you scared me." Izuku placed his hand over his chest as he tried to catch himself, caught off guard from the popping next to his ear.
"That really was cute." Mirko added having casually hopped right next to them.
"Eh?! You saw it too?" Izuku asked in shock before he inwardly pouted. He always felt like he was the only one that could notice Momo during those moments.
Because during those glimmers of solace is when a looking glass can shine...
"There, all done!" Momo playfully cheered as she finished cleaning her up. The two of them began to walk up to the group as she folded the handkerchief up.
He noticed that it had a chibi neko insignia on the corner of it, which caused him to raise an eyebrow. "Hm, Babe when did you get that one?" Pointing to the cloth in her hand.
"Oh this? It's a part of the maid uniform. I used it the day you hired me, remember, Master!" And Momo naturally had that neko cheer thinking of how they rekindled their feelings for each other. 'I can't believe I never realized how infatuated I was with him!'
Izuku embarrassingly face palmed. "I am an idiot. I thought it was the other one, that's why I didn't want to get blood on it, I had already ruined so many expensive ones with my blood beforehand."
Momo started to grow a blush as she began to explain, just as embarrassed as he was. "Oh Darling, I could never use that one for work, I hope you didn't think I was. Besides I already told you they weren't expensive!"
Mirko, Camie and Eri could only stare at the adorably cringy couple talk nonsense with that same deadpan expression from earlier that day.
"Well this is cute and all but break time finished a long time ago and we should probably be patrolling ." Mirko, the head of the agency, was actually taking charge.
"Yeah I think that's in our job description or something but I yeeted that manual a long time ago so idk and big chief here brushes it all off." Camie swayed her hips from Mirko to Deku before placing one of her hands on the side pushed out towards Deku as she looked at him.
"So your saying this is my fault?" Izuku gawked at her accusation before actually thinking about it. 'Camie doesn't care enough to never not goof off and Mirko, if I remember her words correctly she said and I quote, "I don't have time for the important unimportant stuff" Wait, so that means Camie does have a point! I'm the only one keeping this agency on track!'
While Izuku was self realizing his responsibilities, Momo interrupted his mental ramblings. "Oh before you guys go, I made sure to make you all neko bentos! You can't save the city on an empty stomach!" Momo happily pounced to her neko bag happily giggling to herself at the idea of everyone having a full stomach.
'She's such a mom...' They all thought in unison.
And just like a mom, Mirko, Izuku and Camie lined up in front of the door so she could hand them out one by one with Eri standing next to her as she would be spending the day with her as the rest patrolled.
"Here you go, Sweetie." Mom said to her baby bunny Rummi.
"Here you go, Master!" She said to her one and only.
Both Izuku and Rummi gave an embarrassed thanks of love to her as they walked out the door. And then it was Camie's turn. Maybe neither was reluctant, maybe only one of them was, or maybe even both of them were, but...
"Here, Camie." Gently handing it to her.
"Thanks, Yao-yo-ro-zu." Firmly handling it.
And it caused her to inwardly wince because Momo, more than anyone, knew what it meant to use someone's name like that. She gulped down her fears and insecurities reaching out, as she let go of the bento. She bowed down in front of her and simply said, "I want to be your friend again."
Camie was actually taken aback. For the passive aggressive Momo to express herself so openly... She wasn't excusing her absence, she wasn't sidestepping it, she wasn't trying to sweep it under the rug like before, and... she wasn't falsely apologizing.
So in turn she did the same. she didn't call her out, she didn't say that they were always friends no matter what and she refused to joke about it. She wanted to be as honest as Momo was being. "... I really do appreciate the effort, Momo."
"Camie... Thank you," For at least acknowledging it.
But as soon as the sincere moment was gone and Camie was walking at the door she said what the rest couldn't, "Thanks for the lunch, Mom!"
