*42* Difficult talk
The day was gloomy and sad as his thoughts. Fourth Nattawat stood by the window and looked out. It was dark, so dark that the room was dim. Normally, under such circumstances, Nattawat would have turned on the light, but now he was so absorbed in his gloomy thoughts that the darkness suited him. The darkness seemed to reflect his mood perfectly. It was pouring rain. Fourth sighed heavily and moved away from the window. He still remembered that P'Zee had made them write diaries, and what had happened recently was definitely worth writing down. Fourth wondered if someday, maybe in a few years, he would come back to that diary, take it in his hand, read it, and laugh at all his worries and fears? He really wanted to hope so.
He made himself a bowl of cereal, which he only partially ate. He took the notebook he used as a diary from his desk drawer, chose a red pen this time, and began to write.
"I don't know what to think about it. Iris is pregnant. It still doesn't reach me. I feel like someone else is experiencing this, not me. It's impossible for me to be the father. I'm still so young! In our world, I just turned 19, although Gemi and I are actually 21, only we've been told that the two years we spent on Gaia II don't count, so we're officially still 19.
I don't know how to react. I feel like I'm doing something wrong, that I'm making mistakes all the time. I wish I could protect the people I love, but I feel helpless.
P'Zee says it's not my fault that I did everything I could, but I still feel like it wasn't enough. Did I do absolutely everything? If so, why didn't I protect Iris from being attacked by the woman who raised me and first?
Oh, it wasn't a woman, it was a demon. That's how it was explained to us.
I felt devastated and guilty when I found out how Iris got pregnant. This should never happen! Never!
I know I shouldn't be angry at Iris and my mom, I know how much each of us wants to love and be loved and I know that what my mom and Iris have in common is the same thing that Gemini and I have. Why did this piss me off so much? I don't understand why I acted like an asshole, I don't understand it!!! I am the last person who has the right to tell others what to do and who to love. So why did this upset me so much?!
Yeah...
Because of my dad...
I don't even know who he is. Or where he is.
I've heard rumors, but can I believe it? It's crazy! How could it be possible for me to be the son of the Archangel Michael himself? I'm completely ordinary... I'm the son of an archangel? Can archangels have children?
I read somewhere that yes, they can take human form, so I guess it's possible.
But then what my mother did was very unfair and dishonest to my father... Didn't they love each other? If that were the case, then why did both me and First come into the world? What our parents had in common must have been sincere, so why aren't they together anymore? And isn't my mom's relationship with Iris cheating? I guess that's why it hurts me so much..."
Fourth didn't get a chance to finish writing.
He heard a knock on the door. He closed the notebook, put it back in the drawer, and went to open it.
Three people stood in front of the door: Gemini, Iris and Mrs. April Puitrakul. Fourth hesitated for a moment about slamming the door in their faces. He didn't feel like talking to them at all, it was hard for him to even look his own boyfriend in the eye at the moment. He felt embarrassed and guilty about his earlier behavior. He knew it was very inappropriate and that he shouldn't have done it.
“Can we come in and talk?We want to explain everything to you” His mother said calmly. He looked at her askance.
“I don't want to talk to you, you cheated on dad,” he wanted to tell her, but he stayed silent. A muscle in his face twitched.
“Please listen to them,” Gemini had always been able to convince him. Fourth shook his head but stepped aside to let them pass. “Thank you. It's very important, just give us a chance to explain everything.”
Gemini already knew what Iris and April wanted to say. April brought Iris to him as soon as she found out what had happened. Gem pointed the women to the chairs at the table, on which in the very center stood a large vase full of red, black and dark purple roses. The weather outside the window was improving. A fine rain was still falling, but the clouds were no longer so heavy and dark. It was clearing. Nevertheless, Gem decided to turn on the light in the chandelier just above the table where the four of them sat.
Fourth's body language made it clear that he didn't want to talk to anyone. He felt hurt and betrayed, but also guilty and helpless. It was overwhelming him. On the one hand, he wanted to know the truth, and on the other, he was afraid of what else he might hear.
“Iris, tell him everything as you told me, and I'll make us all tea with chamomile” Gemini said gently, touching the girl's shoulder briefly. Mrs. Puitrakul saw that Fourth glared at Gemini for this innocent gesture, as if Gem had committed an unforgivable act.
“Fourth?”
“Mhm,” he grunted in response, not even looking at Iris.
“Sorry. I'm not going to apologize to you for loving your mom, because you're not supposed to apologize for your feelings, but...”
Iris wanted to say more, but she didn't have the courage. Fourth's closed and slightly hostile attitude didn't help her at all. Gemini, who poured water from a colored kettle into three cups of tea and one of coffee (Mrs. Puitrakul spelled her own cup with ground coffee already poured in), placed the cups on an equally colored tray and carried them to the table, then stood behind Fourth' He started rubbing his shoulders, trying to calm him down a bit. Mrs. Puitrakul, who was sitting on the opposite side with Iris, grabbed Iris's hand under the table.
“I'll tell him, okay? You shouldn't be nervous.” She smiled warmly at her. Iris nodded almost imperceptibly. “Fourth, I know you're not comfortable around us right now, but you need to know the truth. You probably think I cheated on your dad”
("Yes, it occurred to me")
Lady Puitrakul saw her son snort dismissively. It hurt her a little, but she didn't show it.
“Fourth, you must know the truth. Me and your father parted amicably two years after you disappeared. Because you see, my son, love doesn't always end happily. Sometimes feelings burn out. I met Iris more than ten years after we broke up, and I hadn't been with anyone until then. I've been dedicating myself to work, and I haven't stopped looking for you and First for a moment. The problem is that the person who kidnapped you changed your names. Nattawat and Kanaphan were not the names your father and I gave you. I didn't even name you. A nurse came to my room where you were born. I was too dazed and sore to notice at the time. She said she had to take you for tests. I believed her, she inspired confidence. I'm sorry son, I should have sensed something was wrong.”
Something in her voice made Fourth look at her. His muscles were still tense to the limit, but now he was ready to listen to what Iris and April had to say.
“Mom, it's not your fault, you couldn't have known that,” he said through clenched throat. “It's not your fault.”
“I've been thinking about it for the last 19 years. I didn't know where you were, what your name was, what you looked like, if you were happy and healthy...”
“I wasn't happy, First, even less so. This woman tortured him, led him to a suicide attempt, I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't managed to help him”
Fourth spoke very quietly, full of regret, playing with his fingers. Gemini was still standing behind him and now rested his chin on his head, keeping his hands around Fourth's heart. Gem just wanted to be close, he was ready to react if something bad happened, but Fourth looked like he had cooled down a bit and was no longer nervous. He was just sad.
“I'm sorry...” Mrs. Puitrakul was clearly feeling really bad, and Fourth was now angry with himself for having made her upset for a change.
“No mom, don't be sorry. I know you did everything you could to find us. It's me who should apologize.”
Mrs Puitrkul smiled sadly. Only now did he notice the distinct lines on her face and the strands of gray hair. He understood that it must have cost her a lot. Runes covered the skin of her neck and exposed forearms. She was dressed in a tasteful, simple aquamarine suit. Iris felt she had to interject, had to tell them everything, whatever the outcome. The worst truth is always better and less cruel than the most beautiful lie.
“Fourth, don't be mad at your mom. When I met her, my heart was broken. You know Ciize, right?”
“Uhm. But what does she have to do with it?”
“Ciize was my girlfriend. I'm a lesbian, Fourth. I'm not interested in men. And Ciize is very attractive. And nice. We were together for two years, but it was a very toxic relationship. She finally broke up with me when she met... Anyway, it doesn't matter. I haven't been able to open my heart to anyone for a long time. I was afraid of getting hurt again. I didn't want to have any expectations of anyone so as not to feel disappointed. I felt like I didn't deserve anyone to love me. NuNew and I say he's my brother, but that's the official story. The truth is, we're not related, but my parents took Nu in when he was a little boy P'Zee rescued from a demon.”
What Iris was talking about more or less agreed with what Gemini already knew from Nanon.
Gem, tired from standing, sat down on the chair next to Fourth. Iris interrupted her story to take a sip of tea. Fourth was silent, Gem and Fourth's mother were also silent, they were all waiting for the continuation.
“Nu was unlucky in love too, so I thought we were cursed. I was afraid. And your mom took care of me. She made my wounds heal, that the past stopped hurting me. It was April who made me learn to love again. At first I just liked her, but when she was with me all this time, supporting me and slowly rebuilding my self-confidence, I realized that I love her.”
Now Iris looked directly into April's eyes, who nodded her approval. In their gazes, Fourth saw the same thing he saw when Gemini looked at him. He got up from the table and went to the window. Tiny streams still ran down the window, but the rain had stopped.
“Can you accept us?” Iris' pleading tone of voice squeezed his heart. He turned and looked at her as if he was seeing her for the first time in his life. She suddenly looked small, fragile and delicate. She got up and walked over to him. “Please, Fourth, if you don't want to do this for your mom, do it for your baby girl, please.”
Iris hugged her round belly with a protective gesture. Fourth looked out the window for a moment.
A timid and pale rainbow appeared in the sky at first, and after a few seconds a much bolder rainbow with stronger colors appeared. Fourth thought it was a good omen. A gentle smile appeared on his face.
("So I'm going to be a father. No, we will. Me and Gem. We will be a family. A real family.")
And then it hit him. He turned from the window and looked at Iris.
“Thank you for telling me about it, and I apologize for my behavior. You and my mom both have the right to fall in love with whoever you fall in love with. I shouldn't have reacted like that. Sorry.”
“It's okay, we know you were shocked. It's me who should apologize to you, son. I never considered for a moment that it might hurt you. Forgive me”.
Mrs. April Puitrakul approached her son and stopped a few steps in front of him unsure if she could go any further. She wanted to hug her newly recovered son. She wanted Fourth to know how much she loved him and how much she missed him every day, but even she, a grown, experienced woman, couldn't find the right words to express it all. But Fourth was her son, he felt it and understood it. It was he who bridged the distance between them and grabbed his mother in his arms.
“Mom... Oh mom!” He just whispered and fell apart.
It was his mother, not the horrible woman who raised him, but the one who gave him life and who suffered for 19 years not even knowing if her sons were alive. Now that he was about to become a parent himself, he was beginning to understand what his real mother might have felt.
Gemini stood next to him not really knowing what to do with himself. April noticed it over her son's shoulder and signaled Gemini to come closer. Norawit followed her instructions slowly, reluctantly, not wanting to destroy the touching moment between mother and son. He gently hugged Fourth from behind, snuggling against his back. He didn't know how long the three of them stood like that, but he could feel Fourth calming down in their embrace and relaxing his tense muscles. The tears stopped flowing from his eyes and a blissful smile appeared on his lips. Fourth closed his eyes, savoring their closeness.
Fifteen minutes later the nervous atmosphere was gone.
The four of them sat down at a large rectangular table made of orange-and-pink larch and began cheerfully discussing the twins' arrival. On the table, they spread out laptops, phones, tablets and sheets of paper, on which, with the help of magic pens, they applied subsequent designs for the appearance of the children's room, unable to agree on the color of the walls.
“I think pink will suit you best,” Gemini suggested, finding the exact shade he liked best on his laptop.
“Nooo, I'd prefer something less bright, maybe blue?” Iris shook her head.
“Canary is cute too.” Fourth put his two cents into their conversation.
Mrs. Puitrakul watched them with amusement, not taking part in the discussion. She sat next to Iris and sipped her black, strong coffee from the white mug First had given her with the words "Best Mom on the whole world" written in red on it.
“Give me two kisses, and I'll accept any color” Gemini winked provocatively at Fourth, for which he received a light slap on the knee.
“Stop it, we're not alone here,” Nattawat chided him.
“Oh boys, don't worry about us. Pretend we're not here, it's cute.” Mrs. Puitrakul laughed cheerfully.
Gem felt his cheeks and ears burn with live fire. He looked down and stared at his own knees. In fact, for a moment he completely forgot about the existence of other people in this room, he saw only his beloved Fourth, only he mattered. He raised his eyes uncertainly and met the attentive gaze of his boyfriend. Slightly frustrated with how Fourth's smile alone had an effect on him, he looked away again.
"It doesn't matter how many more people come into my life, for me it will always be you who will be the most important, I will always see only you, my handsome Stranger. Ultimately, it's always you and only you."
“Okay boys, we'll talk about this tomorrow. I feel like I need to take a nap.” Iris informed them and got up from her chair. Fourth waved at her, and Gem rose to see her to the door.
“See you later, Iris.”
“See you later, Gem.” She said goodbye to him and headed to her room, feeling her eyes close by themselves from exhaustion. She was sleepy, but happy that everything had cleared up and that Fourth no longer held a grudge against her.
Meanwhile, Gem busied himself collecting all the sketches and designs they had made. He sorted them, placing them in special foil sleeves, which he pinned into a blue binder, on top of which he wrote in red marker: "For Our Kids." Then he picked up his phone and on the wallpaper of the home screen he saw Fourth putting his arm around his waist and looking at him as if Gem was his whole world and Norawit felt that it was. excited and happy. Fourth, his Fourth, his handsome stranger who had once saved his life long ago, was now standing next to him texting someone on Instagram, so close that their shoulders were touching.
Fourth texted, saw that Gemini had already cleared the table, and the two sat down on the couch to watch a movie. Gem turned on the TV, picked a channel at random, but what was on there quickly lost interest for both of them.
Fourth, taking advantage of the fact that April and Iris had already left their room, lifted Gemini's chin with two fingers, looked deep into his eyes and said bravely.
“I love your smile.”
“My smile?” Gemini was pleasantly surprised, not understanding what his boyfriend was going to, and this rascal smiled at him, not taking his eyes off his and replied.
“Yes, your smile. It's beautiful, wonderful. I fell in love with your smile.”
“It's because of you. You are the one who makes my smile so sincere.”
“Right now, I just want to kiss that smile. May I?" Fourth asked him in his mind, not saying a single word aloud. The tension between them became very palpable. Gem felt as if sparks of electricity were jumping between them.
"You may, you know I'll let you do anything" – He replied in a similar way.
Fourth stopped looking at his eyes, now looked at his mouth. He bit his own bottom lip lightly before moving closer and brushing his lips lightly against Gemini's. They both felt as if this one seemingly very gentle gesture, this barely perceptible touch, acted on them like a pin removed from a grenade, like pulling the trigger of a gun. All emotions, desires, dreams, all their shared longing found an outlet in the love dance of their bodies.
The room seemed to automatically tune in to their needs. The lights dimmed, the curtains by the windows were drawn, giving them the feeling of much-needed privacy. It was their time just for them, when their souls, thoughts and bodies were going in one, consistent direction.
Gem let Fourth wrap his legs around him, lifted him and carried him to the bed, on the edge of which he sat down with him even for a moment without stopping kissing him. Fourth slowly unbuttoned his boyfriend's lilac matte shirt. Gemini wasn't that gentle. With a kind of ferocity, he pulled Fourth's red shirt off.
“Call me daddy,” Gemini asked in a deep, soft voice.
“Daddy...” Fourth whispered directly into his ear and repeated it a little louder and more confidently. “Daddy Gem.”
When Gem heard this, a shiver ran through his body.
