*17* I have to let it go

NuNew took a long time to gather his courage and searched his mind for the right words.  How was he supposed to convey all this news to a boy who had no idea about the existence of another world so closely connected with the human world?  A world that was much darker, but also more interesting, than you could imagine.  He wanted to push this moment away from them as far away in time as possible.  He looked at his closed eyes, at the long lashes, at the perfectly sculpted nose and lips as if made for kissing, and he didn't want to change it so much, he didn't want to destroy what they had.

However, NuNew, although he sometimes considered himself such, was not a selfish person, and for someone who was important to him, he was willing to do much, much sacrifice.

He had to admit openly that this 3 years younger boy had been his oasis of peace for the last few months, he was also the inspiration for another song written by Nu, which he was to start recording the next week, and whose lyrics he could not get out of his mind.

Today you're still with me
Today you're still mine
Tomorrow I'll have to let you go
I know it'll break me
I know it will bring me more tears
But I know what's right
I can't come in between you and your soulmate

Because we've never ment to be
Because you were never mine
The more we fight the bigger pain we'll feel
So let it go
Yes babe, let it go
Maybe we'll meet again one day
Let it go, just let it go

He cried writing this song when he couldn't sleep, and he wrote it on his magic paper while watching a slideshow of their photos on his laptop.  If he didn't love Fourth, why did it hurt so much?

He tried not to think about it.  He had to do it.

"I can handle it.  Fourth is a good friend and that's all he can be to me and Gemini can't live without him, it's a simple equation and I found the unknown x. Maybe it's time to stop running from the truth?  Maybe it's time to tell P'Zee that I chose Fourth because he reminded me a bit of him from the old days?  Wait... Am I completely crazy?!  Say something like that to Zee?!  He'll kill me!  I don't think he understands, and I don't want to be heartbroken twice in one day!  No, no, it's gone.  Okay, I'll do otherwise.  First I have to introduce Fourth to our world, and then we'll see what's next.” He thought and calmed down he began to speak.

“What would you say if I told you there's a universe out there where I'm not your boyfriend?”   NuNew finally asked, playing with Fourth's hair.  Nattawat lay on the couch with his head in NuNew's lap in their secret cabin, which was the apartment New had bought secretly from everyone and only Fourth knew about.  It was simply decorated, filled with bright furniture and aquamarine walls.  It was here that Fourth felt safest, and it was here that he spent the most time besides First's apartment.

“Is there one?” He answered New's question with a question.  He opened his eyes and studied Chawarin.  Some gut feeling told him something was wrong.  New looked tense and nervous.

“To be completely honest, yes, such a universe exists. I even have something I can show you, only you have to go somewhere with me”.

“Okay, let's go then.” Fourth didn't think too long.  He got up from the couch and helped NuNew up.  They had nothing better to do anyway.  NuNu smiled sadly at him, grabbing his hand.  He was aware that showing the boy this could change their relationship forever, it would never be the same again.  However, he couldn't afford to hide it, although he felt safe and comfortable in the younger's arms, and he also understood that he couldn't keep him to himself forever.

He thought that this might be the last time she held his hand, maybe the last time they'd talk to each other so honestly, and surely it was the last time he could call him his boyfriend... He didn't want to lose him so much, he didn't want to,  to disappear from his life, give him so much strength and courage, so many times he was his oasis of peace.  How is NuNu going to go on without his nong?

“Just please don't hate me”

“Why would I hate you?”

“I'll tell you everything, you can ask as many questions as you need, then you'll understand that I couldn't have done otherwise”.

Fourth wondered what he had done wrong, or was trusting NuNew despite the warnings of First, who knew New inside out, a mistake?  It was too late to back out now.  Subconsciously, Fourth felt that it wasn't that something was missing in his relationship with the singer.  NuNew, meanwhile, led him out of the house and ordered him to take the passenger seat in his brand new Ferrari, which he could afford thanks to his relationship with Khaotung, who hardly used his car.  Fourth did everything completely unconsciously lost in thought.  NuNew saw this and realized it was best to tell the truth right away, hiding it couldn't help either of them in any way.

“Fourth?”  NuNew began timidly, fearing his boyfriend's reaction for the first time in a long time.  Although... Did he even have the right to call him his boyfriend?  They were in a relationship that both benefited from, but NuNew wasn't so stupid and blindly in love not to notice that the initially good chemistry between them was gone and replaced with some grim awkwardness.

When they were leaving for a crowded street at this time, menacing-looking clouds appeared above their heads, which made them both realize how much they share and how little they have in common.  It would be too painful for both of them to go on any longer.  Fourth sighed but didn't answer.  He stared at the landscape in front of him, although he couldn't really see much, his mind kept wandering around what he had heard.

“Fourth?  Are you listening to me?”  He asked a little louder and more confidently.

“Yes, yes.” Fourth turned his head to him.  His face was unreadable, but New felt it was something he found hard to talk about for the boy.

“Before we go there, there's something you need to know”.

“Sure, what's that?”

“Remember the drawings I found in your room?”

“Drawings?”  Fourth didn't understand what was going on at first.

“Yes, drawings.  Those sketches where you can see some boy's face”.

“Oh... You're talking about the boy from my dreams...” Fourth replied weakly.  He was still ashamed of it, still couldn't talk about it.  With no one, especially NuNew, but he couldn't change the fact that NuNew had seen the inside of the closet door completely obscured by sheets of pencil sketches that depicted the same person: a boy who often visited him in his dreams.  Even to himself, it sounded pathetic, which is why he didn't tell anyone about it: he knew they would laugh at him.  It didn't make sense, especially since he usually never remembered what the dream he had had was about when he woke up, but the boy's face was very clear.

“Yes, I'm talking about him. I know someone who has a similar one but with your likeness.  I found him.  His name is Gemini Norawit Titicharoenrak and he is one of the new students of the Institute to which I belong myself.”

“Wait... You're not going to tell me this guy is real, are you?  I didn't make this up?!”

“I'm sad but also relieved to say that no, you didn't make it up, and we're just going to meet him.”

“What?!  Wait... No!  I... I'm completely unprepared!  Plus, I look terrible!  If he sees me like this, he'll run away.” Fourth began to panic.  They both looked at the boots he was wearing simultaneously and NuNew shook his head.

“You're right, you need a bit of refreshment. New shoes and clothes will also be useful, these do not look good.”

“But they don't scare you away.”

“No, not me, but remember that I've known you for quite a long time, I'm used to it.  For an outsider, it may come as a shock.  Let's do this: we'll go to my place first, you'll take a quick shower, Win will do your face and hair while I find you something nice to wear”.

Fourth nodded in agreement, unable to utter a single word.  He didn't really understand what had happened.  He tried hard to understand it.  He reached into his pocket for his phone, which he unlocked and on which he looked in the photo gallery for photos of the portraits he had drawn.

“Do you have a picture of him?”  He asked after a long moment of silence and staring at the screen as if it would help him.

“I happen to have.  It's on my phone.  Take it out of your bag and unlock it, you will find it easily, because it is the first photo from the edge”.

“Okay”.

If NuNew hadn't felt so overwhelmed by all this, perhaps he would have noticed how funny it was that both boys acted almost identically, their questions were similar, and they both had closets filled with portraits of each other, as if they had a special bond.  Nat would probably call them soulmates.  The bonds between twin souls were very strong, but sometimes they led to tragedy, as in the case of Ina and Korn.  New did not want history to repeat itself and promised himself that he would never come between two people who were meant to be together.

He didn't treat leaving Fourth as something bad that had happened to him, he knew he was doing the right thing and he could be proud of himself.  He looked at it in terms of a somewhat painful lesson he had to learn.  He decided to remember only their good times.  He knew Fourth wasn't in love with him, though he didn't tell him that.  He guessed that Nattawat simply couldn't say no to him, that he had done it out of kindness, had agreed to be his boyfriend, because perhaps he also felt lonely.

Fourth complied extremely quickly and suddenly forgot how to breathe.  His heart started beating hard and loud, as if it was trying to break out of his chest and run to meet this boy who was looking at him with cheerful brown eyes from a small display.  His hands trembled and the device fell out of his hand, landing on his lap without him noticing.  Tears began flowing uncontrollably from his eyes.  The whole world disappeared in a split second, blackness and sadness surrounded everything, and as he tried to calm down, his mood worsened even more.  The longing he had carried inside him for so long, unable to understand or explain it, now became overwhelming.

He no longer remembered that the boy from his dreams was the same one he had once helped, the other one looked a bit different, this one was very handsome, elegant and you could see that he had class, that he came from a rich family and certainly took great care of himself and his  appearance.  The teenager he helped at the time was small, skinny, with short, messy hair and was pale, not to mention acne-prone.  The one in the picture had tanned skin, bangs of dark hair that fell evenly over his forehead, a charming smile of a big mouth and eyes that sparkled with the will to live.  He looked rich and dignified like a prince in a movie.

“N-no... It's... It's no-no... It's impossible,” he whispered just before he lost consciousness.

NuNew expected Fourth to take it very badly, but he never would have predicted it to be this bad.  He wondered if he should take Fourth to the hospital, but decided there was no need.  He knew why Fourth had fainted, he knew it was his fault, but he couldn't find other words to convey such a message.  Being brutally honest was all they had left.

“I hope someday you'll forgive me and we can be friends again,” NuNew whispered, looking at his almost ex-boyfriend with a kind of tenderness and concern.  He didn't stop, he didn't pull into a nearby parking lot.  He had to get Fourth to his place.  He'd be a liar if he said he wasn't afraid.  He was afraid, but he tried not to show it, even as a distracted Fourth weakly greeted Win, their mutual friend who was also NuNew's personal make-up artist.  New and Win took Fourth to the bathroom, and they took care of choosing the right outfit.

“So you did tell him,” Win stated more than asked as he sorted through the stacked denim pants on the shelves, finally picking out the brightest ones with black stars of various sizes printed on them that looked like they had been drawn with a marker, then a pale blue T-shirt and  an equally light blue zip-up hoodie with colorful graffiti on the sleeves.  New paired it with comfortable, white sneakers and a small, black, simple bag, in which you could hide your phone and wallet.

“I couldn't lie to him any longer.  I don't want him to hate me”.

“You said you loved him, were you wrong?”

“What do you think?”

“Wait... Did the famous infallible NuNew Chawarin just admit he was wrong?”   Win looked like he was in severe shock.  He put the clothes he had chosen on the bed and began to arrange the cosmetics.

“Uhm.  Consider it an exception”.

“I don't think I understand,”  Win complained.   “Can you explain to me?  A week ago you were madly in love with this boy, what has changed?”

“Someone's looking for him, someone who can't live without him, I can, so I have to let go.”

“New... Are you sure you don't have a fever?  I've never seen you act like this before.  What is it about?”

“I told him that the person in his dreams and sketches was a Gemini, one of the students at my Institute.  The problem is that both me and Fourth, Gemini, you, Margaret, Khaotung and Iris are hybrids, which Fourth has no idea about.  I don't know how to tell him.  Maybe I should ask Iris about it?”

"Start at the beginning, maybe tell him about our world first, then tell him about the boy who's looking for it."

Just then, behind them, there was a noise like glass falling to the floor.  As New and Win turned towards the sound, they saw Fourth staring at them in amazement, his mouth wide open and his hand raised up over his chest, where he had been clutching a glass of water a moment earlier, which had now fallen to the floor with  bright panels, splashing the drink around the boy's legs.

“What did you say?  What hybrids are you talking about?  And who is Iris?”

“I think you should talk it over calmly, I'm going for a walk, I'll be back in half an hour,”  Win tactfully withdrew, knowing that such matters as New and Fourth were to be discussed among themselves.  He grabbed his phone from the dressing table next to NuNew and left the building almost unnoticed.
