Chapter Twenty- Seven

Maddie and Lily were waiting alone in the quiet office. Once Maddie was sure of that, she started for the desk.

"Maddie? What are you doing?!" Lily followed her. "Look for something that has Hufflepuff's password on it, quick!" She responded, already opening and searching a drawer. "Why?" Lily asked. "Because I really don't want my secret to get out, hurry!" Maddie pointed to a neighboring drawer she could check. Lily scampered over to the desk.

"I've got it!" Lily announced moments later. Maddie ran up and took the paper. It was in neat calligraphy.

Passwords

Gryffindor: Expecto Patronum
Hufflepuff: Helena

Maddie stopped reading.

"Lils, I have to go. I'll back soon. Return the paper to it's drawer. If headmistress comes back tell her I'm in the bathroom, or something."

Lily just nodded and snatched up the paper. "Okay."

---

"Helena!" Maddie whisper-shouted as the rounded doors in the basement crept open slowly. The Hufflepuff common room was simple, and yellow and black seemed to have thrown up inside. Moonlight came through the narrow windows. Maddie felt at ease, it was definitely a comfortable room. Unlike the Slytherin and Gryffindor common rooms, their was no staircase. Rounded doors, almost identical to the ones outside, lined the walls. Maddie went to the left. She lightly pushed on the knob, and after the door had opened part way, she slipped inside. She scanned the beds.

The second-to-last bed held Roxanne. Maddie took out the potion. She unscrewed the cap and approached a sleeping Roxanne. Her mouth was, perfectly, slightly ajar. Breath held, Maddie's wrist meticulously bent itself so that some liquid could dribble into the gap between her braces and bottom lip.

How much do I give her?

She wasn't sure, but figured that more was better than less. The potion was almost empty, so she tilted her wrist back to an upright position. Able to breathe again, Maddie fixed the cap back on, and  let it slip into her pocket. Mission accomplished.

---
Maddie dashed up the eagle steps and into the office. It was just Lily. Maddie let out a sigh of relief and exhaustion, having sped the entire way from the basement. She leaned against the elegant door frame. "Maddie," Lily motioned for her to return to the spot headmistress had left them. Maddie obeyed, with heavy breathing.

Professor McGonigle returned, with worried teachers trailing behind her. "Oh, girls. You're dismissed," she told them. Reluctantly, they made their way out the door. Maddie traced back a few steps, "Headmistress, please inform Lily and I when my sister and friend have been found." The professor placed her delicate hand on Maddie's shoulder, "Yes, dear."

Maddie nodded and caught up to Lily. "We're not going to sleep, are we?" Lily asked. "Nope." Maddie replied. "We're going to the Forest."
