Chapter Seven
A chorus of "Up!"s filled the quidditch pit, where the first year Ravenclaws and Gryffindors yelled at their broomsticks. Lily's was the first in hand, having been on a broom since she was 9. Maddie's broom tossed and turned at her feet. Other kids' brooms found their way into the air, and soon Maddie's was the only one left on the grass. She knew the small bit of magic inside of her wasn't enough. After several more minutes, Maddie was allowed to just bend down and pick her Firebolt up.
"Don't worry about it," Hugo whispered after seeing Maddie's embarrassed expression.
When told to hover 5 feet above the ground and come back down, Maddie barely made it 3. After class, the professor asked to speak with her. "I saw you looked a bit discouraged, and I just wanted to make sure all was good, yeah?" Maddie just nodded. "Alright then, off to class you go. What do you have next? I'll write you pass." "Um..." Maddie pulled out her schedule from the pocket in her robe, "Defense Against the Dark Arts." Maddie sighed a small, undetectable sigh of relief; she had it with Slytherin.
The professor handed her a slip of parchment that read:
Maddie Chan to D.A.T.D.A. a few minutes late, signed, Professor R. Hooch
"Enjoy your day, Ms. Chan," she said. Maddie nodded and scurried out of the quidditch pit.
