Chapter One

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN ANY OF THE POTTERS, WEASLEYS, OR PROFESSORS MENTIONED IN THIS BOOK. HOWEVER, I DID CREATE THE CHANS. I DO NOT OWN HOGWARTS OR ANY OF THE SPELLS USED, AS WELL AS ANYTHING MENTIONED IN J.K. ROWLING'S HARRY POTTER SERIES

Maddie bit her lip, "Do you think they'll know?" She whispered to her twin sister. Lena shook her head, "I don't think so. Dad worked it out pretty good. We got this." She elbowed her in the ribs with a confident grin.

Of course she's confident, Maddie thought, Lena can be confident because she was born with magic.

Twins were supposed to be alike. Identical, even. And Lena and Maddie were, for the most part. They shared the same jet black hair (even though Maddie's was streaked with red), dark brewed coffee eyes that smiled as the edges curled upward, pale complexion, and all of these wrapped up together made the girls look much older than 11. All these similarities and one crucial difference. A difference spelt M-A-G-I-C. As in plenty for Lena, and, for the first time in centuries, none for another Chan. Maddie Chan.

But Maddie's parents didn't care Maddie wasn't magical. Didn't care she was a squib. For centuries, the Chans (her father's family) and the Websters (her mother's family) hadn't had a single squib. So, it was her father's plan, Maddie would be sent to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. While attending a school for witchcraft, Maddie would be expected to do witchcraft. How? That's where Lena came in.

"Um, are you girls expecting anybody else, or is the rest of this cabin empty?" A light haired boy leans on the doorway to the compartment. Just as Maddie was about to invite the boy in, Lena cut her off. "Actually, yes, we're expecting friends," Lena lies. "Oh," the boy looks disappointed, "okay then, see you around... I guess."

After the boy leaves, Maddie turns to her sister. "Are you expecting friends?" Lena rolls her eyes, "Maddie, when will you catch on? You're a squib. We get to Hogwarts, get into Slytherin, hide you, and get you through Hogwarts. And you'll be invisible. Nobody will notice you. Don't get attached to anyone, if they find out... you know the consequences."

Maddie sighed, "Lena, you're right." She smiled at her sister and turned towards the window, just as the Hogwarts Express pulled away from the station. Maddie took a deep breath; it was time for phase one of the mission: get to Hogwarts.
