Magi Secret Santa 2016
This was a gift to vivianadichiara on tumblr that I decided to share here as well~
"Judar, are you ready yet?" Hakuryuu Ren knocked once on his roommate's bedroom door before entering. Inside, Hakuryuu was unsurprised to see it was dark and messy, clothes strewn about the floor and hanging off of various objects. Across the room at his desk was Judar, hunched over his keyboard and clicking rapidly on his mouse as he stared into the computer monitor just inches from his face.
Judar groaned loudly, ripping his headset off and tossing it at his computer screen, leaning back in his computer chair. Red lettering across his screen read: "You died! Waiting for player revival..."
"C'mon," Judar muttered, "revive me, you assholes!" He grabbed his headset from where it fell on the floor, adjusting the headphones over his ears and pulling the mic to his mouth to yell: "What do you mean you're not gonna rev me?! You need me!"
Entering the room fully, Hakuryuu walked over and placed a hand on Judar's shoulder, "You're playing another round? I have everything set up already. Which, you were supposed to help with, you know. Leave these assholes alone and let's get this over with."
"Oh, Ryuu, hey," Judar barely noticed the hand on his shoulder as he was naturally revived in-game. "Gimmie a sec, these fuckers are gonna regret messing with me. I'm gonna steal all their loot and run~!"
"You're not livestreaming, are you?" Hakuryuu asked as he watched Judar's character run around.
"Nope, already did earlier. Got my video up too... HA! Got it! Take that, you dicks!" Judar cackled, signing off with all of his teammate's loot in his inventory. Standing from his desk, the black haired male took off his headphones and stretched his arms over his head.
"Nice," Hakuryuu complimented. "I finished my solo video as well, so this should be the last recording of the day for both of us."
Besides living together in their small apartment, Judar and Hakuryuu both ran their own Youtube channels as well as one they shared. Judar uploaded under the username "BlackxMagic" and posted mainly gaming montages and Let's Plays, with the occasional make-up tutorial. Hakuryuu's channel was simply "Hakuryuu Ren" and he posted cooking tutorials and sometimes skits he created with Judar and others' help. When he played video games -which was rarely on his own- Hakuryuu used the in-game name: "WhiteDragon4".
Their shared channel was called "Judar and Ryuu Games" -creatively named by Judar- and contained their gaming videos with each other, as well as their daily vlogs and tag videos. Though their individual channels were decently popular, their shared channel was the most loved, and thus the most posted on.
"What'd you have planned anyway?" Judar asked as he followed Hakuryuu out of his room.
"A Q&A. I let viewers tweet questions in a tag for a bit so we'll have plenty to choose from," Hakuryuu told. The pair entered Hakuryuu's room across the hall, where a camera and spotlights were set up beside his bed. "I haven't read any of them, so I have no idea what to expect." Hakuryuu maneuvered around the camera and sat on his bed. "Hit record before you sit."
"Got it~" Judar fiddled with the camera, making sure they'd be in frame, then pressed record. And so began the video.
"Alright~ time to record a video~~" Judar sang innocently as he sat down beside Hakuryuu and took an unnecessary amount of time to get comfortable.
"Are you ready?" Hakuryuu asked with a flat expression, pulling out his phone. Once he had the questions up on Twitter, he scrolled through them in search of a video-worthy question.
"Hey, no skipping any, Ryuu~" Judar scolded, looking over the Hakuryuu's shoulder.
Hakuryuu looked up from his phone, "We don't have time to answer all of them."
"Then let's do just the first ten, no matter how bad or incoherent they are," Judar suggested with a shrug. "But if the video ends up too short we can do more."
"You're going to regret saying that, but sure." Hakuryuu scrolled to the first question, clearing his throat before he spoke, "Alright...first question: Can you curl your tongue?"
Judar huffed, "Of course I can!"
Commence five minutes of Judar struggling while Hakuryuu laughed at him through a perfectly curled tongue. After a while, Hakuryuu's tongue got sore and he stopped, asking Judar to give up as well. He refused.
Hakuryuu raised his phone again, not yet sober from laughing, "Ok, no, we're moving on Judar... Oh, here: How many oceans have you swam in? Judar...stop already."
Judar paused, fingers in his mouth, attempting to force his tongue to fold in half. Muffled, he replied, "How the fuck would I know that?!"
"Well, I've only swam in one. Maybe two," Hakuryuu answered properly, turning to the camera. Jerking a thumb in Judar's direction he added, "This idiot's always around me so it's probably the same for him."
Question three: "Do you know a hoarder?"
"I do! This guy!" Judar threw himself on Hakuryuu. "He keeps everything! It's insane!"
"I do not!"
Judar laughed as Hakuryuu tried to shove him off, "You do too! It's probably because of your name, honestly!"
"Ok, fine, whatever. Get off, we're out of frame," Hakuryuu shook his head, using the camera to fix his hair as Judar adjusted himself as well. Under his breath he grumbled, "Least I clean my room, unlike someone."
"Moving on!" Judar dismissed, grabbing Hakuryuu's phone, "Question three: ...potato? Ugh, no, potatoes are gross, man."
"Judar hates most food, as I've mentioned before," Hakuryuu rolled his eyes. "Unless the potatoes are in chip form, then he'll eat whatever kind you put in front of him."
Question four: "How old do you think you'll be when you get married?"
"Uh..." Judar thought for a moment. "How old am I now?"
"Twenty," Hakuryuu answered, grabbing a bottle of water on his nightstand nearby.
"And you are?"
"Eighteen?"
"Hmm... Twenty-two, then."
Hakuryuu choked, inhaling the sip of water he'd taken. "Are you trying to fuel the shipping that goes on?"
Judar smirked, "Maybe~ What's the next question?"
Clearing his throat again, Hakuryuu read: "Question five: Have you ever skinny dipped?"
"Oh, we have~!" Judar started, making Hakuryuu's eyes widen.
"Woah, nope, we're not talking about that on camera, Judar."
"It's not like it was just us! Alibaba and Kouha were there too-" Hakuryuu clamped a hand over Judar's mouth. Judar licked his hand instantly.
Recoiling, Hakuryuu grimaced, "Ew, Judar, what the hell?" He wiped his hand on Judar's black t-shirt. Judar snickered and grabbed Hakuryuu's phone again.
"Question...what? Six? Ooh, this is a good one," A sly grin crawled its way onto Judar's lips as he read the next question.
Hakuryuu sighed, "Go ahead. How much worse can it get?"
"Have you two ever read fanfiction about yourselves?" Judar paused, then chuckled as he continued, "Hashtag: JuHakuForLife. Ryuu, we have a ship name and everything!"
"Oh god, no..." Hakuryuu ran a hand over his face. "Sadly, yes, I have read fanfiction between us."
Judar snapped his head up, eyes sparkling, "You have?! I have too! They're pretty good, actually..."
"N-No they aren't!" Hakuryuu turned beet red.
"What ones have you been reading, then?" Judar frowned. "Cause all the ones I've read have been great! Want me to show you them?" Judar stood momentarily to pull his own phone from the back pocket of his jeans.
Still blushing furiously, yet trying to keep his composure, Hakuryuu replied, "I'd rather not..."
"Aw, come on, it'll be fun~"
"Why don't you wait until after the video?" Hakuryuu compromised, earning a sigh from Judar that signaled he gave up. He handed Judar his phone, "Here, read question seven."
Question seven: "What's the funniest thing that's happened to you?"
"Oh, I know exactly what story to tell," Judar handed Hakuryuu's phone back. Standing, he said, "I'm gonna go get some props, so take five." He pressed the record button again, pausing the video to preserve the camera's battery while he prepared for the next clip.
Hakuryuu opened the camera app on his phone, switching to video and tapping the red circle. He raised his phone to get Judar in frame, making a mental note to edit the next question into the video later on.
Question eight: "Can you whistle?"
Judar was crouched by a large blue tote full of costumes and props, halfway inside of it with his butt in the air as he rummaged around. Hakuryuu stifled a chuckle and whistled at him flirtily.
The noise startled the male, Judar jumping up and whirling around to look at Hakuryuu. Hakuryuu quickly lowered his phone as Judar asked, "You're not recording, are you?"
Hakuryuu shrugged, smirking slightly, "I answered the next question."
"What the hell was it? 'Can you flirt with Judar?' Geez..." Judar walked back empty-handed.
"No props?" Hakuryuu observed with a tilt of his head.
"I'll get them in a minute. I'm surprised you actually did that for the video."
Typically, the pair kept anything that hinted at them being more than just friends from their videos, only joking about the idea of each other together and about the 'shipping' that occurred between them. Judar's jokes had already toed very close to that line, but now Hakuryuu was participating instead of acting annoyed and moving on with pink dusting his cheeks.
"We don't have to include it."
"Nah, let's keep it. It's fun. The fans will enjoy it too," Judar decided, sitting beside Hakuryuu again. Their eyes met. They both froze, faces flushing red from merely looking at each other. Coughing, Judar composed himself and reached out to press record on the camera again. "We can, uh, do the story later... What's the next question?"
"Question nine," Hakuryuu spoke, casting a few quick glances at Judar as he read. He was blushing! That never happened, no matter what they did to tease each other. Did he...? "'Judar, do you like Hakuryuu or Alibaba more?'"
Judar huffed, "Is that even a question? Hakuryuu, of course! I don't even like Alibaby!" He looked at Hakuryuu through the camera monitor, surprised to see light pink dusting his cheeks once again. When did Hakuryuu become so cute? Judar shook his head. Why was he thinking about that now?
Hakuryuu was his best friend- nothing more. They'd known each other since they were kids. They'd grown up together, gone to school together, even moved in together after they decided to wait on college and save up money with Youtube. They recorded together every day. But there was nothing more than a deep friendship between them.
Although.... Their friends had mentioned on multiple occasions that they argued like an old married couple and how they were never seen apart. If you invited one to an event, you always got the other tagging along. Neither had found any dates as of late because of it. The last date Hakuryuu had, Judar snuck himself along and was rather defensive of his roommate to the point that Hakuryuu's date angrily left early, stating that Hakuryuu should have mentioned he was already seeing someone before asking them out. As accidental revenge, Hakuryuu wound up doing the same exact thing to Judar just a few months later.
But they weren't together- as much as their friends and followers said so. At least not yet. And little did Judar and Hakuryuu know, that one video was a turning point in their relationship.
"Judar? Hey, Judar, are you alright?" Hakuryuu shook Judar from his thoughts by literally shaking him.
"Hmm? Yeah, I'm good..." Judar assured absentmindedly. He flopped backwards onto the bed, staring up at the ceiling as a question came to mind, "Hey, are we even going to be able to upload this video?"
"That's a good question, actually..." Hakuryuu laughed lightly. He lied back, lounging on his side with an arm supporting his head. He took a breath to speak but stiffened as Judar rose suddenly and butted him in the head.
"Ow!" Both Judar and Hakuryuu yelped, the latter exclaiming for the second time that video -which they forgot they had recording-: "What the hell, Judar?!"
"Ah..." Judar rubbed his sore forehead. Propping himself up on one arm he replied, "Well I was trying to...kiss you...and overestimated how far away you were..."
Hakuryuu snorted, "Idiot." Using his free hand he pulled Judar towards him gently by the back of his neck, lightly pressing his lips against Judar's. He was lost for several moments, hyperfocused on every little detail and movement Judar made. His slightly chapped lips, his stiff shoulders, and unsure hands twitching back and forth before settling on awkwardly resting on Hakuryuu's sides. Hakuryuu didn't realize how much he actually wanted to kiss his roommate until he had actually found the nerve to do so.
For Judar, the moment came and went far too quickly. Time didn't slow down at all. In fact, the whole thing went by in what felt like a mere second. He spent most of that "second" panicking that he'd do something wrong or that he'd screwed up their entire friendship by attempting to kiss Hakuryuu in the first place- despite the fact that he reciprocated immediately.
When they pulled away, Judar was the first to speak, eyes wandering the room anxiously until they landed on the camera and tripod and he said: "Oh, shit...we're still recording..."
Hakuryuu looked over at the camera as well, still a bit lost in the moment, "Oh...right." He turned back to Judar, who met his gaze. "But, Judar, do you...-?"
"I do. Do you?" Judar answered before Hakuryuu could finish his question.
Raising an eyebrow, Hakuryuu spoke, "I could've ended that sentence in several ways- you didn't even let me finish."
Judar shrugged, "I knew what you were going to say anyway. So, what's your responce?"
"Of course I do," Hakuryuu smiled, "I just hadn't realized it until recently."
"I think I've liked you for a while..." Judar replied quietly, then continued more properly, "What made you realize?"
Hakuryuu thought for a moment. Then he said, "I think it was just how suggestive you've been this video, and now that I realize it you've been acting like that for a while, haven't you?"
"Thanks for noticing," Judar ran a hand through his hair with a sigh. He gestured to the camera, "So, we finishing the video and posting it or...? It'll need a lot of editing now..."
"Well...that depends. Are we making a relationship out of this?" Hakuryuu asked cautiously, motioning between himself and Judar. "If so, then...this video could be the announcement of it, if you want."
"I'm down if you are," Judar agreed casually, though he was suppressing the butterflies bubbling up in his stomach. He grinned as Hakuryuu took his hand and said:
"Let's finish this video, then."
