Chapter 4||The One That Ran Away
"I'm not lying!" I muffled from behind my pillow.
Letting go of a few fake coughs and sniffles, I grumbled under my breath as my mom began to laugh to herself.
Yes, I was trying to pull a sickie. I had even gone out and mixed a few cans of tinned carrots and peas in the toilet to make out as if I were sick.
I'm desperate, okay?
"Is there a reason why you're lying to me, Winter?" Sinking further down in my bed, I began to start pulling the sheets over my face but groaned as it got pulled totally off of me.
The hairs on my bare legs stood up straighter than soldiers once the cold had hit.
"Momm!" I whined.
Curling up into a ball, I tried to block out the constant bickering of my mother telling me to get my ass in the shower.
"Can't you just let me live?" I grumbled.
Hearing her sigh, next came a chuckle but it definitely wasn't from her.
Quickly sitting up, both my mom and Luca were stood looking at me with both amusement and annoyance.
He was wearing a pair of black jeans as usual, and a grey sweater.
"Maybe you can get her to move." My mom shot me a huge grin upon leaving my room as I tried to glare a hole through her face.
Directing my eyes towards Luca, I put my finger out to hush him before he had even said a word.
"I'm sick." Coughing pathetically, I flopped back down on my bed and stared at my blank ceiling.
"Really? What's wrong?" His concerned voice had startled me, since when was Luca ever caring?
Feeling the bed dip, I cleared my throat as I tried to think of an answer.
"I well I, I've thrown up." Hearing the rustling of a bag, I knew he had picked up the bucket I had 'thrown' up in.
"I see." can't he just leave me alone. "Im only thinking out loud here, but I'm sure yesterday you didn't eat 2 whole tins of carrots and green peas."
Sitting up, I leant on my elbows to stare at him with my slitted eyes.
"I like my vegetables." I bluntly said.
Smirking, he slowly got down to his knees and bent over to look under my bed.
"Hey you can't just-"
"Well well well." He dragged out. Coming back up with the cans I had hidden under there this morning, the pout on my lips was becoming more and more evident.
"Like I said before, I like my vegetables."
Trying to lay back down, his grip on my hands had stopped me.
"Snowflake, it's my first day of school, common you can't leave your best friend hangin." His emerald eyes were the most hardest thing to say no to, ever.
I had told him that was my theory on why he has been with so many girls. One look of those baby's and bam, they're under his spell.
Luckily for me, I'm not one of those girls.
"Yeah, I kinda can?" My face dripping with sarcasm, I had to bite on my lip to keep myself from laughing at his shocked face. "You left me hangin last night. And that reminds me, I'm still angry with you, so piss off."
Snatching my hands away from him, I ignored his sigh as I tried to get myself comfortable on my bed.
I think I'm going to start looking for new schools to go to later, or maybe I'll just change my name to Mary and join a convent. I was going to have to once Luca steps in school.
They'll find out that I was lying and he's going to think I'm a creepy loner girl who fantasises about being Mrs Winter Evans.
"Why are you being like this?" Sitting back up, I could see the twinge of hurt in his face though he tried to cover it up with an emotionless expression he used quite often.
"I'm s-"
"Yeah, I get it you're sick" getting to his feet, he ran his fingers through his hair and began to scratch at the back of his neck.
"You've been really off since you found out I moved here, what's fucking wrong with you, snow?" Furrowing my eyebrows at his harsh tone, getting up from my bed, I felt like hitting him in the chest just for raising his voice at me.
"Swear at me again, do it I dare you." Taking a step towards me, I felt ridiculous as he peered over me in my black nighty. I might as well have been Thumbelina compared to him.
"What's.fucking.wrong.with.you?" he whispered.
Punching him on his arm, I was even surprised at my strength.
"Nothing!" Scanning his eyes around my room, he picked up the closest set of clothes near him and threw them at me.
"Well get changed then?!"
"Fine!"
"Fine!"
Marching off towards the bathroom, I gave him one life glare before slamming the door behind me.
Wait... Did he just trick me?
Eugh goddammit.

Rubbing my sweaty palms together, I fumbled at trying to lock up my bike and dropped the key on the floor.
Luca had gently pushed me aside as he picked up the keys and locked up the bike for me.
I had persuaded him to bike with me instead of using his car just to try to buy some time. There were plenty of times that I could have just told him, but everytime I opened my mouth I swear I could hear Kimberly's bitter laugh echo in my ear.
As Luca was still locking up both of our bikes, he was missing the shocking stares he was receiving, mostly from the girls.
Swallowing the lump in my throat, I had subtly snaked my arm around his, and awkwardly laid my head on his side as a couple of Kimberley's friends had walked past looking green with envy.
I watched on until they had disappeared through the gates probably on their way to look for the devils spawn.
"What are you doing?"
Jumping at Luca's voice, i quickly untangled my arm from his and pretended I was stretching.
"Stretching, what does it look like?" Nervously laughing, my chuckles began to fade as he looked on at me like I was crazy.
"Okay....." He matched my nervous laugh before beginning to walk in the direction of the gates.
Joining his side, I made sure to try to walk extra close to make us look a tad more intimate.
He started digging around in his rucksack for his schedule whilst continuing to speak to me about his friends coming over to visit him on the weekend.
Oh fun, more people to embarrass myself around.
As we walked through the gates, I was surprised no one was able to hear the thumping of my heart beat. As soon as we walked through those doors, it was either game on or game over. Neither could honestly end well for me.
"So you know where any of these rooms are?" he muffled with a pencil clenched between his teeth. Trying to calm my breaths, I tried to concentrate on the schedule he was showing me, but the closer we got towards the doors, the shakier my breaths began to get.
As he casually pushed open the doors, it was as if the eyes of everyone had frozen me still.
Okay, now I think I'm going to be sick for real now.
"Snow?" Looking up at Luca, one side of his mouth had quirked up as he looked at me slightly confused.
Grabbing hold of my hand, with his fingers still untwined with mine, he swung his arm over my shoulder and started to pull me along down the halls.
"You're acting so odd today, maybe you really are sick." He laughed.
I could feel my heartbeat start to slow back down as I noticed the earth hadn't split in 2 and swallowed me up to join Kimberley's true father.
Instead people were strangly smiling at me and acknowledging my existence.
"Hey Winter."
"How's it going winter?"
"Oh em gee, cute skirt Winter"
"Sup Win-dawg"
Win-dawg? What is that? Is it some sort of euphemism? A creature? Who knows.
"Look at miss popular." Luca chuckled beside me. His eyes were still glued to the piece of paper in his hand as he drew me closer towards him.
Seeing Victoria by her locker, she looked to be struggling to fit her numerous amount of...rackets and hockey sticks?
Since when did Victoria ever play anything remotely sport like.
Stopping in front of her, Luca had seen her struggled and gently pushed her to the side as he jammed everything inside and closed it with one push.
Her eyes went from me to Luca in silence.
Turning around on his heels, he stuck his hand out in front of Victoria with a smile on his lips.
"We met yester-"
And just like that, she had ran off... Again.
"Oh common!" He yelled.
Giggling to myself, I tried to put my hand in front of my mouth to quieten my laughs, but the look on Luca's face was too funny not to laugh at.
Looking at me over his shoulder with a smirk on his face, I could see the smile he was trying to hold back.
Even he found Victoria running away from him everytime he said a single word funny.
"The one that got away." He sang sarcastically.
Doesn't he meant ran away?
Laughing out loud, my laughs became muffled as he brought me in towards his chest.
"Snow, your laugh is amazing." He sighed. Rolling my eyes, my chuckled slowed down and soon came to stop.
Maybe I was over exaggerating, or maybe I was just super freaking amazing at sensing when the scent of bitch is near.
But as soon as my laughs came to a halt, I could almost feel Kimberley standing behind me. I guess that's a reason why I didn't want to raise my head from Luca's hard chest.
Hearing her clear he throat, I slowly span around to be faced with a pack of wolves wearing fuscia lipstick.
"Kimberley."
"Winnie" she smiled. "I didn't see you at my party last night?"
"It's Winter?" She looked down at me as to say if I was sure. Yeah, im pretty sure I know what my name is.
Kinda had 17 years to learn it.
"And you gave me the wrong directions, and the wrong address" I murmured in a blunt tone.
"Whatever, mistakes happen." she waved off as if it wasn't important. "Aren't you going to introduce us to Luca?"
His lustful eyes had dropped from Kimberley and looked down at me with a puzzled expression. Obviously I hadn't told him about Kimberley, so how would someone he knows nothing about know his name?
I could feel my throat dry up as the rest of her Wolves glowered at me with their blue and brown eyes scrutinising every inch of my body.
"Well um" swallowing the lump in my throat, I could tell Luca was growing suspicious upon taking a small step away from me and folding his arms over his chest.
Maybe the whole earth splitting thing wouldn't have been such s bad thing after all.
"Introduce me, snow."
Clearing my throat, I intwined my fingers in my hair and tried to gather some words together.
"Luca, this is Kimberley. Kimberley, this is Luca." Tilting his head at her, even I could see her eyes scan his body like a piece of steak that had been served to her on a plate.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Luca" as the bell suddenly went off, I let go a sigh of relief that was barely audible.
Yet somehow I had a feeling Luca had heard it.
"Well we better get off to homeroom." I screeched. Starting to try pull Luca along with me, I felt like I had just won a battle after he actually started following me.
"Like I said." Kimberley Added. "It was pleasure meeting the ever so lucky boyfriend of Winnie."
Stopping in our tracks, he had looked over his shoulder towards the evil witch and didn't even say anything as she sauntered past us with her flock closely behind.
Slowly craning his neck to face me, I gripped onto my lip with so much force that it was a wonder I wasn't drawing blood.
"I'm your what now?" His voice was low and full of something I could only describe as anger.
So I did a Victoria and ran my ass out of there.
I know, very courageous of me.
