Wolf hadn't moved by the time she's thrown open the front door. The chickens were already growing familiar with the stranger, pecking around his feet in search of falling seed. 

Scarlet settled the gun in her arms and released that safety.

If he was surprised, he didn't show it.

"What do you want?" she yelled, startling the hens away from him. The light from the house spilled around her on the gravel. her shadow shifted across the drive, almost brushing Wolf's feet.

the madness from the fights was gone, and the bruises on his face were nearly invisible. He seemed clam and unconcerned with the gun, though he didn't move toward her.

After a long silence, he raised both hands to wither side of his head, open palmed. "I'm sorry. I've frightened you again."
