"guys? is everyone home?" tom's voice called throughout the holland household. a chorus of murmurs and 'yes's followed as tom closed the door quickly and ran into the living room. nikki was showing harry something on her laptop, dom was writing for his newest comedy act, paddy was intrigued by some new children show and sam and (y/n) were almost laid on top of each other on the small sofa.

"everyone," tom started before a barking interrupted him. everyone's head snapped towards the noise and saw a small blue staffy puppy wrapped in his arms.

"awwww" (y/n) exclaimed, not letting tom finish his sentence. "she's adorable"

"i know, right?" tom smiled at her reaction, watching everyone else's faces at the new arrival. "guys. meet tessa, the blue staffy"

"tom," (y/n) stood up from her seat and walked over to him. "she's so cute" her hands began to stroke her as tessa barked in excitement. she cooed over the staffy and the other family members followed suit and began to stroke her too.

"tom," nikki started. "she's lovely, but we don't have enough room for a dog in this house"

"we can make it work, mum. it'll be fine" he argued.

"okay, but you're the main person to look after her" she warned.

"okay, okay. i will. don't worry." tom stood there for minutes afterwards as people continued to coo over the new pet.

once the excitement had calmed down, and tess had fallen asleep, everyone pitched in making dinner and then settled down for the night. nikki and dom were half asleep in the master bedroom, paddy was past out in his single bed, harry was laid in the dark on his phone, tom was laid with tessa and (y/n) and sam were together in his room.

his tv quietly played captain america: the winter soldier as (y/n) was laid in his arms. they'd gotten closer since they first met: the awkwardness subsided after a few months or so, and now she was closer to sam than she was to anyone. he was her best friend, and she was his. and they feared that that was all they would be to one another.
