Chapter 23

**Victoria's POV**

"So this is your new office." I said and tony, Jason's new assistant, nodded putting his box on the desk. "The boss should be here soon. I'll give you a moment to settle up."

"Thank you, Ms. Mendes."

"The folder on your desk has everything you need to know. Mr. Knight can be hard, but just do your job properly and on time, and everything will be fine."

It wasn't hard to find to find a new assistant. Since Cindy wasn't here for long, I've figured I could just contact someone who was interviewed along with her.

I just hope this one lasts or I'm going to kill someone.

Jason, precisely.

"Thank you, ma'am."

"There a conference in Rome and we're leaving next week for a few days. I know it's of short notice and you've just started today, but Jas- Mr. Knight will need you there."

"No it's okay. I can settle in fast."

"Alright. I'll make the arrangements for you. We're going to need your passport and y-"

"Good morning."

Right on time.

Tony set down the folder he was holding when Jason stopped in front of his desk.

"Good morning. Tony samuels is your new assistant." I said and Jason just nodded before walking to his office.

I watched him walk mentally stabbing him. Can't he just be nice for once? This is getting painful for me.

I'm getting paid to be the  Executive manager, I need a raise for putting up with him without complaining.

I turned to Tony who was looking at Jason's retreating back worriedly.

"Don't worry about his mood. Never worry about his moods." I said quietly. "I'll let you settle in."

I turned and followed Jason, while grabbing his coffee. The door was closed just when I stepped. I rolled my eyes and placed his coffee on his desk.

I turned to face him and he placed his hands on my hips before smiling down at me.

"Good morning."

He started leaning in but I placed my hand on his mouth leaning back.

He narrowed his eyes at me and I did the same.

"I hired him yesterday." I said looking at him seriously. "Just please. Make it last this time Jason. Or next time, I won't be the one looking for an assistant for you. You'll do it on your own."

He started speaking but I couldn't understand because of my hand on his mouth so I took it away.

"Why are you in such a bad mood?"

"Because of you and your attitude. And your temper."

"I'll try to be less strict."

I rolled my eyes at his words. "I was hoping you would say 'nice'."

"Too painful to say." He said.

"Stop. We're at the office." I said mentioning our surroundings.

I gasped when my feet left the ground and I was sat on the desk. I looked at Jason with wide eyes before a laugh escaped me.

"I don't care." He said leaning in again and I leaned back smiling.

"I will tie you down Victoria."

"I saw Cindy at the spa, yesterday. She's angry." I informed him ignoring his threat.

"Who cares?"

I sighed. "I don't know, Jason. She's weird. There's something about her."

"Like what?"

"I don't know. Is it possible to do some background check on her?" I asked and he sighed in annoyance.

I don't know why I feel something weird about her. She can't be like that just because of a work crush and because I fired her. She can be angry, but not to the point of being hostile to me every chance she gets.

"Okay."

"Now let me get back to work." I smiled glancing at the door behind him.

"I will when I'm done with you."

His hand came up, grabbing the back of my head and his lips claimed mine, warm and soft. He angled his head and deepened the kiss.
I gasped when I felt him sliding his tongue inside my mouth and heat took over my whole body.

My grip tightened on his shoulders at the weird feeling in my stomach, almost making me feel light headed. My hands moved to the back of his head almost unconsciously pulling him closer to me.

He groaned and I pulled away, now really feeling light headed. I stayed silent for a moment just breathing softly .

"I have to get to work." I said out of breath, while still feeling the tingling on my lips.

"Unfortunately." He smiled before his hand moved to my hair and started quickly looking for the pins holding my hair into a bun.

"What are you doing?" I asked when I felt my hair falling around my face. "Do you know how hard it was to keep everything in place?"

"I like your hair down." He smiled grabbing two pieces before tying them together under my chin.

"Have you lost your mind?" I asked with a laugh pushing his hands away and started untying the knot. "Who does that?"

I slowly arranged my hair since he decided to undo my hard work of the morning.

"Much better." He said looking at me before throwing the pins away.
"We're leaving next week for Rome."

"You have to keep reminding me." I frowned lightly. "I know. I remember. Is there a way I can stay here?"

"No. You have to come." He sighed. "You'll add my mother's number to the emergency contacts. You know she'd love to help."

"I know. I just like being here for my mom."

"I know, but it's just for a few days." He said and gave me a lingering kiss.

I smiled and slowly pushed him away before getting off the desk. "I have to get to work."

He shook his head and pulled me back to him. "Bring your work here."

"No. I have an office that I like to use. So I'll see you at lunch." I said slapping his hands away. "Focus."

"I am focused." He smirked as I walked around him.

"Hi mom." I smiled walking in her room, while holding a bouquet, and she glanced at me before looking at the window again. "How are you?"

She didn't answer so I just closed the door and went to placed the bouquet that was already in a vase on one of the nightstands.

"Mom?"

I furrowed my eyebrows when she didn't answer. Sometimes she would have her episodes, but she would still answer me. She would call me 'the demon's child', but she would still answer.

I went closer to her and sat on the couch in front of her as usual.

"I told you that I had to go to Rome. We're going next week. It's just for a few days." I explained sitting in front of her and she still didn't say anything.

She is not answering, but I know she is listening. So I just kept talking.

"If you need anything. The hospital will have Stella's phone number. I told you about her. She is Jason's mom. I'll also be calling everyday for news."

"You can't trust them." She finally said in a whisper.

"Who?"

"You can't trust them." She repeated still not looking at me.

She can't possibly be talking about the Knights.

"Who are you talking about?"

"Don't believe them." She just persisted.

I sighed and took off my heels before crossing my legs. I'm not going to jump to conclusion. I'm going to wait until she tells me who she's really talking about. But I'll just try to keep her mind at ease.

"Listen to your mother, and don't believe them." She whispered again and I smiled lightly.

"I won't, mom."
