Chapter 16

"Hi mom." I smiled brightly walking in her room, followed by Jason.

Yes, he came this time. I was hoping it would be better than the last time.
And less crazy.

Just hoping.

"The demon's child. You came with your friend." She said sitting by her usual spot. "The crazy man."

"Yes. It's Jason, mom." I said placing my purse on the bed.

"He should be locked in here too. He is crazier than me." She said and I almost burst out laughing looking at Jason.

He smiled walking closer and sitting on the small couch in front of her. "They said my case was hopeless, ma'am."

"I believe that. The most handsome men are always the craziest." She continued looking straight at him. "But if you act crazy with my little flower, I'll make sure you know what crazy is."

He chuckled glancing back at me. "You don't have to worry about that."

She didn't say anything after that and just stared at him. And Jason stared right back at her.

No! Not again!

"Jason, please not again." I whined sitting on the bed to face them. "We just got here."

"She started it." He chuckled not breaking eye contact with her.

I couldn't help but smile. "You're acting like a child."

"She started it."

"Then end it."

"No." He said stubbornly. "Tell her to break it first."

I groaned dropping on the bed. "Then let me take a nap."

I just looked at the ceiling sainting for them to finish what was happening.

"I hope you know you're being extremely weird right now."

"He knows."

I smiled and sat up in surprise at my mother's voice.

Well at least I'm glad she likes Jason, since she isn't hostile to him.

****

"That was nice." Jason said as soon as we got in the car. "I love your mother."

Of course he does. Even when I was talking to one of them, they just don't want to break the eye contact.
And I can see how my mother takes it so seriously and Jason just takes it as a game.

Even the doctor had problems understanding the situation when he walked in the room.

But Jason just joked telling him that they tried to put him in a hospital but they said that even the doctors couldn't handle him.

I just glared at him before putting my seatbelt on. "You're crazy. You've lost your mind. I don't doubt it."

"At least I won." He smirked starting the car.

"Yes! Because she had to take her medications. You also need them. Because you're completely crazy." I exclaimed and he just laughed.
"You don't even deny it." I finished with a sigh.

"Nope."

"Ms. Mendes."

I looked up to see Cindy standing on the door frame of my office.

We went directly to the office after the hospital, since visiting my mom made us a little late already.

"Mr. Knight wants you to give me the Cornell signatures." She said while chewing a gum loudly, before popping it.

Where did she think she was? I just hate it when people are so loud while just chewing gums. And it's an office.

"Come in." I said and she approached still chewing the gum. "But before you do, take that gum out of your mouth." I said taking a tissue from my table and handing it to her.

She huffed before grabbing the tissue and putting the gum in it.

I pointed at the chair next to her. "Take a seat."

She just dropped on the chair smacking her lips and kept her eyes on me. I started going through my computer to quickly give it to her.

"How is your mother doing, Ms. Mendes?" She suddenly making me look at her with furrowed eyebrows.

"Excuse me?"

"I just saw a document sent to Mr. Knight saying that he pays for a psychiatric treatment. I saw that you were the patient's daughter. It must be hard to have a crazy mother. So h-"

She stopped talking as I abruptly stood up glaring at her.

"You don't about my personal and specially not about my mother."

"I'm just asking about her condition." She said looking up at me.

"I kept my patience with you and now I'm loosing it. But talking about my mother is a line you don't want to cross. You're nosy and arrogant. You don't know your limits." I said angrily dropping the pen I had on my desk.

She huffed again standing up. "Listen Victo-"

"You don't get to call me by my first name." I hissed walking around my desk to face her. "I told you once and I'm going to say it again. I am not your friend. We don't have chit chats. And you need to know your place." I continued pointing at her on the last part.

"Why are you getting angry? You have a pretty good job. So why is the boss paying for the treatment?" She asked again.

I really think she's trying me. If she is, she'll wish she hadn't.

"And you better shut your mouth before I drag you down. You don't want to get on my bad side Cindy."

"I was just ask-"

"And now I'm just saying you're fired." I snapped.

Her mouth dropped. "You don't have the rig-"

I just cut her off. "Go tell Mr. Knight that I've fired you, and see if I don't have the right to."

She glared at me and I just raised my eyebrows looking at her expectantly.

"Today is your last day. You'll receive your pay check before the end of the week. I'll take the document to Mr. Knight myself." I said walking back around my desk and to my chair. "Get out."

She stood there looking at me hatefully. She didn't say anything, just glared at me.

"Do you need anything else?" I asked trying to look calm when she looked like she was about to explode.

"You'll regret it, bitch. I swear." She snapped stomping her feet. "You have no idea what's coming."

My eyes widened slightly in disbelief as I watched her angrily walk out of my office.

Is she crazy? What is wrong with this woman?

I just don't care right now. Talking about my mother. How dare she? Nobody talks about my mother that way.

I didn't even want to wait. I just stood up and walked out of my office.

****

"I fired her." I said the second I walked into Jason's office.

He let out a sigh of relief. "Finally! What did she do to make positive Victoria angry?"

"She saw the email about the receipts of my mother's treatment. Why does she have access to your personal email?" I asked placing my hands on his desk.

"I didn't. She has access to the other one." He explained.

"She didn't come to tell you yet?" I asked.

"Not yet. I thought she was still in your office."

She's maybe in the washroom or something. She still has her things on the desk so I don't think she left yet.

"Well she clearly had access to the other email. And she started talking about my mother." I said still a little angry. "That little bi-" I paused and just took a deep breath.

I'm not going to call her names.

"Calm down. I told you to fire her on her first week." He said standing up and walking toward me. "But you're stubborn."

"I wanted to give her a chance. But she kept pushing my buttons. From the beginning." I said.

"Come here." He sighed wrapping his arms around me. "I knew she wouldn't last anyways."

"I was so angry. But I shouldn't let anger speak for me. Maybe I overreac-"

He tightened his hold around me. "If you finish that sentence, you and I are going to fight in this office." He said and I let out a laugh.
