Chapter 15
"What's wrong with you?" I asked looking at Jason's annoyed face.
"These paintings get uglier every year." He said. "How can you like these things?"
"It's always about the message the artist is trying to send." I explained. "Some are just more expressive." I said pointing at a very colorful one. "And some have a darker style."
"They are still ugly." He stated.
"Your mother told me that's the first thing you told the twins. You don't appreciate anything." I smiled as my eyes landed on a painting on the left.
"I appreciate things. Just not ugly things."
"Whatever." I muttered. "Look at this one." I said pointing at the one I was still looking at.
"Still ugly." He said lowly and I huffed before turning to look at him with an annoyed look.
"Learn how to appreciate beautiful things." I said grabbing his arm as we started walking again.
He looked down at me with a smirk. "Like You in this dress. Now that's something I would like to see on a canvas."
"Jason." I muttered feeling shy when I shouldn't.
"You're so lucky I respect your dignity. If you know what has been going on in my head, you'd be running away." He said and I almost choked.
Oh God!
I probably would.
"Quiet." I muttered feeling really hot.
I looked away as a small smile appeared on my face.
Keep it together.
I've been thinking about what happened yesterday. He told me he had feelings for me, but he didn't ask me if I felt the same way.
Doesn't he want to know? Or does he want to give me time to register?
Of it is the second possibility, it's a good thing because I still have not registered it yet. I keep reminding myself that he actually said it and he actually liked me as more than a friend.
So maybe I didn't waste my feelings on him after all.
"You're so shy. It's cute." Jason laughed lightly. "We should go to our table. The auction will start soon."
I nodded letting out a breath.
"Victoria?"
I literally froze at the voice.
Why? Just why??
I turned around plastering a smile on my face.
"Dean." I exclaimed as he stood in front of us. "What a surprise."
He smiled lightly. "It's surprise for me too. I didn't think I would see you again so soon. Especially after you stood me up."
Now I'm starting to feel bad again. I really stood him up yesterday. And he was supposed to be my first date.
I don't want to be in an uncomfortable situation, especially when it was really Jason's fault.
He better get me out of this situation. I glanced at him to see him glaring at Dean.
Not good.
"I'm sorry about that. My friend, here, needed help." I said quietly and he looked at Jason.
"This is Jason. And Jason, this is Dean."
"Okay. Let's go." Jason said as his arm moved around me trying to walk away but I discreetly dig my nails in his arm.
"What happened? I tried calling you but it seems like your phone was off."
Jason, now help!
"Yeah. I'm sorry. I j-"
"She had plans with me." Jason interrupted me and Dean's gaze moved to him.
"And who are you?"
"I should be asking you that, Benny." He said and my eyes widened slightly.
Dean glared at him, clearly annoyed. "The name is Dean."
"Does it look like I give a fuck?" Jason said equally annoyed.
I tightened my hold on Jason, silently asking him to stop.
"I'm sorry about the other night, Dean. I really am."
That's all I could say, because I didn't have an excuse after all.
What can I say? 'Hey Dean, Jason locked my door so I wouldn't go?'
"Well we can do it another time." He said as his eyes stayed on me. "Just tell me whe-"
"Benny." Jason interrupted him again. "If you are smart, you won't finish that. But you're clearly not, so here's the thing-"
"Jason, stop please." I said lowly before turning to Dean. "I wanted to call you to apologize. I can still call you to explain everything, okay?"
He just nodded, not saying anything.
"We have to go." Jason announced as his hands moved to my back.
"Bye Dean." I smiled and walked away.
When we were far enough I looked up to glare at Jason.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" I asked moving from Jason touch. "You were being a jerk. I feel so bad." I said looking back at where Dean was, to see that he left.
"I don't." He said. "In fact, I couldn't care less about that blondie."
I sighed and pulled my hand from him. "You are heartless. And I'm calling him tonight. And you don't have a say in it. I care if I hurt other's people's feelings." I said quickly when he was about to protest.
"What the hell do you need to?" He hissed annoyed. "You don't even know if he's a good person or not."
"Just because you don't know someone doesn't mean that their feelings shouldn't matter to you." I said turning to face him.
"I really wish I could care about little Benny's feelings." He said with a mocking smiled before grabbing my hand.
I quickly pulled it out glaring at him. "You're so annoying."
"You've been saying that for years. Yet here you are." He said still smiling and trying to grab my hand again but I hid it behind my back while walking away and toward our table.
"Don't try to act all candy after being a total jerk to the guy."
"Because I don't give a shit about him." He said grabbing my hand this time."
"I'm still going to call him, like it or not." I said as he pulled a chair for me when we got to our table.
He didn't say anything and just took his seat, which is bad. When he doesn't respond, it means he is thinking, which is a bad sign.
"I have two phones and another at home. And we don't live together so you can't keep me from using a phone."
He suddenly smiled looking at me. "You know me well. I'm flattered."
"So I'm right thinking you're jealous of Dean?" I asked looking back at him.
"It's obvious. Never tried hiding it."
I pressed my lips together to keep the smile on my face.
** Third Person **
"What did he say?" Kevin asked looking up at his brother.
"They are at the auction." He said walking in the room.
Kevin nodded looking at the pictures on the table. "My nephew has good taste. She's a pretty thing, isn't she?" He said pointing at picture.
"Yeah she is, you creep." Donovan laughed. "What do you want to do?"
"Did your kid give you her address?" He asked standing up.
"Yes." Donovan frowned sitting on the couch. "We're going Now? I thought you were going to wait until she leaves for their conference in Italy."
"We are. I just need a look." He smirked taking his jacket. "Let's go. I'm missing some actions."
"What about the transfers?"
"Taking money from this company is literally almost impossible until you are on the last five floors of the building."
Donovan nodded. "I know. I was an accountant and even I didn't have access to anything. I had to have an written authorization from Hunter or CFO for anything."
"Yep. But the two little knights hold those position. So two Knights' signature is impossible. The only trusted person to them is this young woman." He finished as they walked out of the room.
