flowers in the sun - female/gender neutral!reader

I didn't know what to expect when she picked me up at my house, telling me to put on my favourite outfit for a date.

We were just getting to know each other, so it was surprisingly early for a first date in my opinion. She drove and I decided to be the DJ so I played with the radio until I found a good song: "Whistle baby" by Flo Rida.

Slowly getting comfortable, I hummed the melody. Soon after, we stopped at a beautiful flower field, on both sides lined by cherry trees and enlightened by the sunlight. She lead me into the field and then I saw the blanket and baskets, putting the pieces together.

"A picnic date?" I asked, watching the excitement in her eyes.

"Yes, I have plenty of food and drinks and we can take pictures if you'd like! Do you like it?"

"Are you kidding? I love it!"

She squealed with happiness, then sat down and patted the empty place next to her.

"Sit and let's eat!" She pulled out two bowls of fruit salad and some smoothies for each of us, followed by a cake that looked like Picasso had decorated it and two wine glasses.

"Soooo, you're planning on getting me drunk or what?" I laughed.

"No silly, it's for the cake." My face was a single question mark.

"You separate a piece of cake with them, see? Like this" She took a glass, turned it upside down and pretended to poke a hole in the cake with it.

"Oh alright, okay", I felt a little stupid.

We began to eat, enjoying the delicious food while talking. We got so lost in each others jokes and stories, that the two of us hadn't realized we had been sitting there for almost 5 hours. But when an orange sunbeam tickled my nose, I looked around, seeing how low the sun had gotten.

"The sun is setting", I said with a frown. I didn't want this to end.

"Yup it's almost eight", she laughed. "Uh let's pick some flowers!"

I agreed, standing up and walking through the field, from one pretty flower to the next which seemed even beautiful. When I picked so many that I weren't sure if I could get them all home I took my hair tie, ripped it and gently tied the flowers together.

I went back to the blanket, watching the sunset a little when suddenly I felt soft hands caressing my hair and putting it in a braid. I just enjoyed the feeling, soaking up all the love and tenderness in that gesture, like a sponge. Then she began to put her freshly picked flowers into the braid, making it emotionally impossible for me to throw them away later.

Secretly I pulled out my phone, opening the camera and saving this moment for eternity.
