4: Don't..cry
The flowers in the garden twinkled as they sat frozen under a thin layer of ice, the sunlight reflecting off the frozen landscape that surrounded the small home. A pair of oddly colored eyes gazed from behind a glass window, watching as the sun finally rose from the horizon it once disappeared behind. His white hair stuck out in different places as he scratched his head, just waking up only minutes ago. The house was silent, which he very much enjoyed, as it was mostly filled with the constant sound of his parent's voices. He glanced down as wave of warmth consumed his leg, only to find it was his best friend Riley. She was their 2 year old rottweiler, and from the start the two of them formed an unbreakable bond. He smiled, rubbing her head as she leaned against him.
"Let's go for a walk Riley" he whispered, grabbing his little cotton candy pink jacket as they crept down the stairs. The threw on his rain boots, opening the door as the pair walked out without a sound. Even though a light layer of snow coated the ground, the air around them felt pretty warm. Not hot enough to wear a t-shirt, but not cold enough to be freezing either. Snow crunching underneath their feet, the two slowly walked along a small path down the driveway. Riley ran ahead, only stopping to make sure that her small friend was behind her from time to time. Tarance only giggled, enjoying the scenery around them as they walked. "Riley." He called out, the young pouch turning to look back at him with a confused expression. She walked back over, sitting down in front of him as he knelt down. His head reached for the side of her head, scratching the back of her ear. "One day you and me will get away from this place." He said with a sad smile, the pup only smiling as he continued to run her. "We'll be best friends until the end of time." He patted her head, standing up as he began to jog to where the road met their driveway with Riley not to far behind him.
The hardest thing I've ever had to do
As they reached the road, the snow was nearly breathtaking as it laid as clean as ever. There wasn't a single print in the road, not even a hint of dirt to ruin it's beauty. Both of them sat down, watching it's beauty as mother nature began to awake from it's slumber. Birds began chirping, a few remaining deer coming out from their hiding places, and the life in the trees coming down to catch an early meal. He closed his eyes, drifting away from the world around him as everything faded away. Riley became curious, wondering into the road as her nose became glued to the ground. Unknowingly to both of them, their adventures would come to an end as a speeding semi truck came zooming down the ice covered road. Strange was suddenly snapped back into reality as the horn of a truck went off, causing the boy to glace up to see a heartbreaking sight.
Was say goodbye to my best friend
Riley cried out as she was struck head on by the truck, a scream coming from the boy as he watched his best friend get hit. It was like everything was in slow motion as the truck kept going on its way, leaving the poor dog lying in a growing puddle of blood. He didn't hesitate to run to her side, pulling her bloody mangled body into his lap as tears filled his eyes. He could feel her every broken bone, her short and ragged breaths, and her heart slowly coming to a stop. He wanted to take her home, he wanted to get her to the vet safe and sound, he wanted her to live, but he knew that it just wasn't possible. The only thing he could do was hold her as she slowly passed on.
"The hell are you doing out here kid." He was suddenly pulled up roughly by his arm, causing tears to spill down his cheeks as he was pulled away from his best friend. He clawed at his dad's grip, trying to get away from him and back to Rileys' side. "Let go of me!" He cried, but was kicked to the ground instead. "Now you shut up and listen here right now kid." He shook at his fathers tone, hands freezing as he stood on his knees. "If I see you cry even one more tear about that dumb mutt then you will be sorry, understand." He couldn't believe it, his father didn't seem to care one bit that Riley was dying, or that it was hurting him to see her die. "Riley isn't a mutt..." He mumbled, hands clinched into fist as his father stood above him. His arms were crossed and he simply raised an eyebrow at him. "Repeat yourself."
He tried to get the words out, but all that he could form was a jumble of words as he began crying all over again. It just hurt to process, he didn't wanna let her go. All he could do was cry as he was dragged away, back into the home that would soon welcome one member, and had to lose another.
