Dragonheart
When I was young, my father would tell me a story. It was about an amazing mare, her kindness hard to match. He told me of her adventures, and he never missed the opportunity to talk about her lilly pilly eyes. I asked what a lilly pilly was, and he responded that it was a magenta berry of sorts.
In every story he told me, he seemed proud of the mare. Proud of what she accomplished. Proud that he met her at all. He told me that he met the mare, he was afraid. But she showed him kindness down to each scale on his back.
The mare showed Mother the same kindness as well. Father said that I was in Mother's belly when he met the kind mare. Father said that she was young, and if anything she did not know what a dragon was. Mother wasn't a dragon, though. She was what Father called a unicorn.
Which is how I can use magic even though I have no horn.
Mother was a unicorn, and father was a dragon. The idea of their love was monstrous in Coltsford. So they fled. During their flee, they needed a place to rest for the night, which is how they came upon the mare.
Father didn't feel safe around the mare, with Mother having me in her belly and all. The young mare took it the wrong way and thought that Father was scared of being left alone. So she had stayed up all night with Father, telling him the tales he told me while Mother slept soundly.
A few weeks after Father and Mother left the mare, I was born. Apparently some nearby Timberwolves heard or smelled or whatever, and they attacked Mother and Father. Mother held them off with a spell, telling Father to take me and run.
And he did.
I've never seen Mother.
Father raised me on his own for two pony years. But one day, when he took me out to catch parasprites, the Timberwolves attacked again. Father protected me with every ounce of strength he could. The Timberwolves fled in the end, but Father was hurt badly.
I stayed with him as he died, and with his dying breaths, he told me one last story about the young mare. How when he amd Mother left her home, her last words to him were, "I hope one day I can meet your baby!"
Father made me promise to find the mare, and tell her who I am, and what happened to him and Mother. I promised. But the more I looked, the harder it was to search. One night, a lonely stallion stupidly sat down and listened to my story. The stallion said a simple finding spell could work. But I blantly pointed out that I had no horn, or any magic to use.
He joked that I could take his magic. And before I knew what was happening, my chest lit up in ivory flames, and so did his horn. A colorful orb of beauty flowed out of the horn's tip. It swam right through the air, directly into the ivory flames of my chest. I felt energized. Pure. Perfect.
I tried the finding spell the stallion had mentioned, but to no avail. I quickly found out that much more magic was needed to do the spell at all, so I went from unicorn to unicorn, bargaining and manipulating them to gain their magic. As willing volunteers became harder to find, I truely bargained. I found that giving the unicorns a pair of wings hardly took any magic away from me, a miniscule amount compared to what I gained.
It became harder to find unicorns, so I moved on to pegasus ponies. Despite my previous thoughts, they too had an inner magic for me to take. So I did. On and on the cycle continued.
More magic then the great Celestia and Luna combined, and still the finding spell did not work. I tried every now and then. And never has it worked.
But then there was this earth pony, who gave me her magic. She was a scientist, amd she told me that she knew a machine that made artificial magic, and I could use it if I wanted. At first, it worked. But it ended badly. Something went wrong, and it backfired. It took my very existence, and sucked it into the machine.
I became a glitch. An error. I just needed enough magic, then I could escape. But I needed a real pony to come into the machine so I could take the magic from them.
So I planted the idea into the scientist's mind that they could use the machine to create a simulated world in which they could test criminals. To see if they were capable of reentering society as changed ponies. And they bought it. They did it.
Now all that is left is to wait for my magic to build up.
