The month was over, after L nearly scaring himself to death seeing a shinigami for the first time, Light-kun yelling at us like we're idiots, and many tears shed for the Yagami family, especially Light's father, who had been denying his son was Kira from the very start. I could finally ask L that question.

"Hey, L?" I began, catching his attention. "You like sweets, right? I know this bakery down the road that has some cakes you'll like. Would you like to go with me?"

I laughed. "Oh, nonsense!" I said, grabbing his hand. "Let's go!"
