Seven Days of Love

One day I, alone, decided,

To you I'd pledge my love.

For a full week I gave you gifts,

That your attention they'd get hold of.

Day one, I bought you a rose,

And sent it to your door.

But the wind swept it away

And you looked upon an empty floor.

Day two, I sent you a harp,

So you could play all day long

But your brother loosened the strings

And your song turned out too wrong.

Day three, I sent you a statue

Of Cupid, holding his arrows

But then you opened your door to find

The statue was flocked by sparrows.

Day four, I sent you a small box,

Where rare and expensive candies dwelt

But I left them out on the sunny porch,

And the sweets had started to melt.

Day five, I made you a dinner

And left it on the table fold

But you came home late from work

And the meal I'd cooked had gone cold

Day six, I mailed you a letter

Explaining the love behind each gift

I'd no idea each one went wrong

Luckily the letter was lost adrift.

Day seven I showed up at your house

Ready to give you a kiss

But you were upset I'd forgotten a sacred occasion
